Gravity Delivery Discussion

Similar here, but I'm not a previous Lucid Owner so the Owners Club is absent. Mine also has the pickup location.

I have yet to Upload insurance information. What do they want, a new quote or just your current information.
I uploaded my current insurance. It is shown as 'checked' and complete but that's it.

Out of curiosity, for those who have confirmed orders but whose vehicles have not yet entered production (IE no VIN assigned), is the website still asking you to provide details and telling you a sales specialist will be assigned soon? My order was confirmed and I have an SA but my dashboard still shows this…View attachment 31147
Mine is "In Production", I had an SA before placing an order, and still has the same verbiage you're seeing.

Mine is still production "gated" with no VIN assigned. Talking to the SA, the order is mapped for the next production build for Green Gravity DEs.

This would seem to imply that Lucid has received more parts for HUD and able to resume production of these units.
I don’t think that’s what it means. I have a “pre vin” for my AG DE. It just means when they get around to the next batch, it’s going to be made. Doesn’t mean the next DE batch is soon. They map production out far in advance as they have to then gather parts, etc. I’ve been told to expect the DE “this year”. To me, that’s December.

I think my GGT will come first. Black, every option except HUD.

To give some sign of new progress, I got notified that my black/tahoe/20/21 GDE is "factory gated" today. TBD on delivery date.

For those who constantly monitor their dashboard for signs, in the last couple days leading up to factory completion I could see the

...and for reference, mine was updated to "In Production" with a VIN assigned 5/31/25
Where do you see software updates. Mine is factory gated waiting to be shipped but all I see under software is unexpected error?

Log into your account dashboard and then click on the software update section on your order

That sucks bc I was hoping too to be able to get a bike rack and haul our ebikes with the Gravity. At the very least, it seems it won't be possible with that hitch. Maybe in future there will be a good solution that comes to market...
You could always use a tow bike trailer. Not as elegant and may limit your driving speed, but definitely fixes the issue of using a rack with limited tongue weight capacity. For example, YAKIMA offers a trailer which is just YAKIMA roof racks put on a trailer. Then you buy the appropriate attachments for bikes/skis/kayaks/etc.

All owners should do this and hopefully it will embarrass Lucid enough that they fix it. lol.
It is very annoying to back up with a trailer and it would make the total vehicle length too long to park.

OK - so here are the pictures of the trailer hitch and the electrical plug. This is not a particularly easy trailer hitch to install - if you use this frequently you will likely begin to hate the engineer that designed this - honestly very challenging to get this installed.
I put a trailer tow ball into the receiver - and guess what? It doesn't fit correctly. My trailer hitch worked on the Tesla Cybertruck and a Porsche Cayenne I had before - it fit perfectly in these cars - in the Lucid receiver it DOES NOT FIT. Great - so likely will now need to buy a new ball or even better use my new R1S which is made for towing. Based on my experience here I would likely never use the Gravity to tow - it is a royal pain compared to every other car/SUV/truck I have ever used. This is a great passenger car - towing - in a pinch maybe - but not the best option.
If you look at the picture with the ball in the receiver you can see that the holes do NOT line up (IMG_6410). The receiver is not deep enough to take the ball I have....
lol this starts to sound really bad.....

I think that might be a class 4 ball mount (12,000 lbs, 1 1/4 inch dia ball hole ). Although Lucid doesn't mention it, it looks like they are using a class 3 receiver(7,500 lbs, 1 inch ball hole). Lucid is trying to help you not overload the vehicle.

Perhaps this is what happens when you use class 4 stuff on an 11,000 lb rating vehicle?

Was wondering if you could measure X below. I'm guessing the left hole is centered below the vertical pin part and the picture is distorting it. If it's not centered then I'd rather have horizontal distance to the center of the pin part. Scaling your picture I'm guessing about 5.5 inches. With this number you can figure the maximum moment the receiver wants to see which will be (X+7.5)*600LB.
With 5.5 in for X its 7800 in-lb. With this number you can get a guess at the equivalent load for any distance.
So the Lucid picture towing the Airstream trailer I measure a pin to ball distance of ~17 inches. 7800 in-lb/117in = 459 lb. That AirStream mini has a max tung weight of around 440.

The 110 pounds Lucid gets from somewhere equates to 7800 in-lb/110 lb = 71 in. ie approx 6 ft. Perhaps rotation loads around that pin make the difference?

Seeing version 3.2.1 as of July 25th. Seems to go inline with what my SA was saying about having delivery the first week of August so I'd guess I'll be taking delivery sometime next week. It's a short enough delivery from AZ to SoCal.

The weight of the bicycles also extends upwards from the receiver, and if you are launching, that's a 1g load at several feet from the mounting point. And for most bike racks, all of the mass of the carried items is attached at the upper end of that moment arm.

Whereas when towing, the hitch pin and hitch ball are in alignment, so no extra torsion beyond the tongue weight.

Lucid should add some sort of CAD software to the car so you can simulate your bike and rack. :p
I can confirm that bike racks can generate very large torques. I bent my Saris rack with 4 bikes on it, though admittedly I was driving quite fast on a dirt road. I drilled another hole to get more insertion depth (though I subsequently sold it and replaced with a OneUp rack.)

All this talk about a bike rack has me worried. Luckily my bike is sub 14lbs. But maybe I'll just get the roof rack instead.

I have an X and have used a hitch mounted rack on it for years with 2-3 adult Trek mountain bikes and it’s fine. Hasn’t fallen off yet or done damage. I wouldn’t worry so much about the calculations, but then again, an accident could be awful.

I did have them mounted on top of my R1S once. That made for a VERY long trip as I had to avoid about four bridges that were too short!

You'll be fine. It's those of us that want to carry 4 mountain bikes that have a problem.
E-bike people should just ride to the trailhead. :p I guess removing the battery and carrying it in the trunk would help.

Same design......SA said late August - September.....hoping

I know this will be boring to those of you who've been driving your own Gravity for weeks and months now, but today's the day for me!

I'm taking delivery of my Gravity DE, hereafter referred to as Velocitron (Aurora Green; Tahoe; 22/23) this afternoon, and I wanted to thank @9point81 for the paragraph above, which I snipped from his excellent first-day-of-ownership summary. It was super helpful in helping frame my own expectations. I'm VERY excited to finally be taking delivery of this car, but will strive to have the 'patience of Job' when it comes to bugginess.
Good luck and if you drive up to tahoe, please report back on speed, range, charging if necessary. Very interested if you can drive to tahoe without stopping to charge and what battery you arrived with.

Just got a call from my SA at the Denver showroom. Said they have a Gravity on display now (just display, not test drives).

We left on a 2 week road trip yesterday, so we'll check it out when we get back.
