Gravity PPF Installation

My detailer using some liquid polymer glue thingie to stick logos back onto the PPF, no 3M tapes, I believe the liquid is also made by 3M, but it's in liquid form. he wiped the back of the logo with 1 chemical, and the area to glue with a different chemical. When they are combined, it creates the bond, it's literally the logo attaching to the top of the PPF, no gap, no extra thickness. PPF/Emblem, that's it.

Would you be able to ask your detailer for the exact name of this product so that I can let my installer know?

I was able to secure a new badge from Lucid for the rear hatch. My SA helped me in the process.

My detailer using some liquid polymer glue thingie to stick logos back onto the PPF, no 3M tapes . . . .

I swung by the PPF shop yesterday to see what was holding things up. The owner, who was on vacation when I took the car in, was there and said they did have what seems like the same or a similar product they can use to reattach the logos.

However, they were still hesitant to try to remove the logos, saying they were afraid they might bend or break during removal. I told them to try and, if they got damaged, so be it. I've always been on the fence about those logos, anyway. If they do get damaged and I later decide I really want them back on, perhaps Lucid will accept the excuse of their having been damaged by the removal necessary to wrap the car as a reason to sell me another pair, something they currently say they will not do.

The longer this goes on the more irritated I am that Lucid first chose to use raised logos and then ignored my request not to mount them during delivery prep. I can't believe that Lucid doesn't know that a lot of buyers want to get their cars wrapped and that those logos have to come off to do so.

At least the service manager is now assuring me that they will honor my request when our second Gravity is prepped for delivery.

Well, apparently they can't even figure out how to ship the Gravity emblem to the correct address. I confirmed the address before shipment and got delivery confirmation today. Only problem is I don't know where it was delivered, other than to my city and state. FedEx won't tell me and getting Lucid to figure it out hasn't been so easy either.

FedEx near us is the *worst* delivery service I have ever used. I have literally watched them walk up to our gate, not even pause, and slap a sticker on it without writing a thing, only to discover that they marked it as “nobody home or business closed” while I stood there at the top of the stairs. I reported that one, but it wasn’t the first.

I’ve also seen them literally toss packages over the gate. So I’m not exactly sure whose fault it is; I think I just really wanted to rant about FedEx because I hate them so goddamn much lol

FedEx is the worst around us too. My husband used to work for UPS…now he won’t shop anywhere that uses FedEx.

We finally got our Gravity DE back from the PPF installer yesterday (and a couple of hours later turned it over to the radar installer . . . drat).

The Xpel Ultimate Fusion looks great (used Xpel Stealth matte film on wheel well liners). The only thing left to be done is the roof cantrails and trim, but the installer convinced us to wait for the templates for that part of the car, as it would reduce the risk of damage to the thin rubber gaskets around the trim from doing a custom wrap there.

The surprise was the new Xpel exterior Windshield Protection Film. It is not yet available in a width to do the whole front canopy in a single piece, so we just had it applied as far as it would reach (a few inches into the sun visor line). The plan was to replace it with the wider film that is becoming available near the end of the year to carry it all the way to the B pillar where the canopy line breaks. However, the line where the film stops is virtually invisible from the inside or outside, so we may not bother with the change out. There's a tiny bit of distortion due to the film adhesive not yet fully curing, but that should disappear after a few hours in the sun. (It rained some of the two hours we had it on the road yesterday.)

1. Yes
2. Obviously nobody will have templates yet
3. Result from a good installer will not be dependent on template vs whole sheets.
4. Expect $10k+
Magic bus here in AZ have templates but an experienced installer will massage the PPF sheets to fit perfectly anyway by stretching and compressing using heat, ETC. What i would not do is attempt to install it yourself! It is a very intricate/meticulous process, especially around the Lucid-lettering. Its almost like installing window tinting by yourself. It usually dont turn out well!

Do you mind providing the name of your installer?
I'm thinking about letting my installer know about the shop where your work was done.

Same with @borski .

My installer may not even reach out, but I want to at least let them know of shops and installers that have done work on a Gravity.
The last time I talked to them, they were going to do research on the Gravity.
I won't contact them again until I know my Gravity is at the factory gate.

Interesting because my PPF people in San Diego just went online to the XPEL database and don't see the templates. Picking my car up today without the trim being done as they are going to wait for the templates. I'll be out of the country for 2 weeks in August so that should work out great for templates being ready and getting the final work done.

Detailers Of Naples (239-280-0034). The whole staff is very helpful, but most of our dealings were with Brennan who seems to be the senior guy.

Same here. Our installer checked with Xpel as late as day before yesterday.

I assumed Lucid would just send a CAD file to Xpel to create the templates, but my installer said that Xpel actually gets the vehicles in and scans them to create the templates. That's probably why they're still not out yet.

I looked at the Magic Bus site and they are XPEL dealers as well so I'm not sure how they have templates.

OCDetailing - https://bayareadetails.com/

They wrapped the entire vehicle custom, to protect it, but where the templates are useful (lettering, etc.) they proactively told us as soon as they have them they’ll re-wrap them free of charge.

I’m still trying to figure out how to capture this damn PPF on film. It is so difficult to capture the beauty of it.

This is correct

Did anyone use color change PPF?

I am concerned that certain areas inside doors, sills, etc will not be covered if I go the colored PPF route, which makes me reticent to "settle" for AG or whatever color I can get now. AG in particular would look wonky as heck if I had another color going but when you opened the door then, pow, olivey green.

We used STEK DynoPrism on top of AG. The contrast exists but in a “whoa, cool” kind of way rather than a “ugh” kind of way.

No matter what PPF you get, keep in mind they can cover the important parts with clear PPF.

Our installer used stealth PPF on the stealth parts, clear PPF on the sills and other glossy parts, and dynoprism on the outside.

We used colored PPF on our ID Buzz in Orlando. You can pay to have the door panels done but we didn't bother. Frankly, it doesn't bother me to see the original silver when I open the doors. At least not enough to deal with the extra cost. My Gravity was done with stealth PPF like my TRX was. I haven't seen it yet. Picking it up later today and will post pics. (Grill wasn't done yet on the Buzz)
