5.0 miles/kWh: Say Hello to the World's Most Efficient Car

It is intentionally misleading when the frame-of-reference is not explicitly cited! "Oh, what a tangle wen we weaved...."
Are any of these what you'd call useful or straightforward?
If it's intentionally misleading, who has it misled? I have some bridges in my trench coat I'd love to sell them!
Guiness an entertainment company, not a scientific organization. To Lucid it's an advertisement. Neither of these things should ever be taken without a grain of salt. If someone is making purchasing decisions based on the headline of an advertisement in an entertainment magazine, well, I think it's fair to say that's on them.
I just think you're taking this far more seriously than is reasonable.

Saw this post on Reddit. An AGT ran for 749 miles on a single charge in Europe! Is 6.69 m/kwh real?

This would be easily believable if they were using kilometers for units if measure. Nice record!

This is the kind of idiotic articles that a stunt like this inspires. I bet you had no idea when you woke up this morning that "range anxiety is a thing of the past". I hate click bait.

Range anxiety is a thing of the past. :)

That has nothing to do with this record, but nevertheless.

Anyway, we understand your point. But someone was going to set it. Why not Lucid?

There are millions of EV owner that disagree with you, but we admire your confidence :)

Like I was saying, the best thing out of this is that Lucid's name it getting out there.

Citation needed. :)

(I know some people have range anxiety. I genuinely believe those people haven’t done enough road trips yet or have limited themselves to a single charging network like EA. But anyway, I digress)

Here is some data, for whatever it is worth:

According to this data, the average range for these EVs is 232 miles. The top 30 or so EVs (range) are all expensive (high 5-figure $ to 6-figure $ vehicles). Thus, the weighted "center-of-gravity" range of EVs on the road is probably even lower than the 232 miles in this chart, hence the persistent range anxiety.

Keep in mind that EV range anxiety is location-dependent. Californian are spoiled with a robust EV charging infrastructure hence, there is less range anxiety travelling in an EV in CA. I think there is some decent infrastructure along the East Coast as well. Once you get beyond these regions, the EV charging infrastructure is less robust and the anxiety level is much higher.

This is not a legitimate "record" on EV efficiency as the circumstances convolute driving efficiency and elevation change without any quantification. As it stands, it is totally meaningless, hence the skepticisms by some of us.

As a comparison, in 2019, a Virgin Atlantic 787 set a "speed record" of 801mph over Pennsylvania. https://www.thetravel.com/jet-stream-propels-record-breaking-l-a-to-london-flight-to-801-mph/). 801mph would have broken the sound barrier, i.e., supersonic flight. The 787 was/is not capable of doing that without disintegrating! It was actually riding an unusually fast jet-stream flying at sub-sonic speeds (mph with respect to the jet stream) but, @801mph when references to the ground speed. Max speed for the 787 is ~Mach 0.9. In reality, no real performance benchmark was broken. Simply, it was a sleight-of-hand by quoting the exaggerated frame-of-reference (ground-speed vs air-speed). This is the stuff students should have learned in high school.

I think the aforementioned "record" for the Lucid range is bogus and misleading. It is good for a laugh, that's all!
And right on cute to shit on others enthusiasm…. Thanks as always Oscar T Grouch.

Just completed a 3,500-mile road trip across the USA to Arkansas and had no range anxiety. It's a thing of the past, only 5 stops each way, less than 40 mins reach time (many under that), I swear people need to try road tripping this car. (also, I only used EA chargers...)

Not clickbait. (I don't have a link) But the things described are real. It does seem like an impossible feat (BUT THE LUCID DID IT!) Relish in the achievement. It's like running a marathon (half marathon pictured), you don't do it every day, but when you do, you can always say you "have done".

That’s great! Last fall I took the GT from Rhode Island to Quebec to Montreal and back home. Fast charged two times and level 2 charged in a parking garage once. Couldn’t have been easier. The charge on the way home at the outlets in Merrimack NH was finished before I was because I got 222kw 😳. When I get the Gravity and am doing 350-400kw I’m not even gonna have time to use the restroom and get a snack wherever I stop!

Stop it you’re making me anxious

This cannot be true. I drive AIR GT and the best I have done is 3.0 kW (normal drive but AC). Who would test a car at the ideal conditions. There should be set of ideal conditions for drivers in the cabin and all EVs abide by that standard. Otherwise they select roads, weather and many other factors to make sure they get UNrealistic for life number. Why are the people impressed?!

It is true and I am impressed that these people took the time to set a record. No it is not what you or I will achieve when we drive, but it is fun to see. If you want standardized testing, use the EPA numbers, that is what they are for.

I ordered the Tesla kludge in case I need a Supercharger but have always been able to find an EA (free) charger within range on my routes through New England up and down the Greens and Whites and driving into the uninhabited parts of PA and NY. They can be far between once off the interstates, but reachable with the Lucid's amazing range if you do route-planning beforehand.

Slowing down vastly increases range. So much energy is used getting the mass up to speed,
but once there you can maintain velocity with surprisingly little energy. This is how you get world- record range.

I'm still going torque crazy ( sudden busts of irrational speed ). My lifetime average is only 3.3 mi/kWh, but I did get 4.5 mi/kWh last week going on a 250 mil out and return to the Jersey shore, with the 21" summer Pirellis, AC on , 90+ degrees F ...doing a constant legal speed on the ACE. I ordered the GT with 19" for max range, but confess having such a quick car has ruined my good intentions. I am weak. I bought a set of 21" summers as soon as the weather broke. Worth it. Screw efficiency...life is short.

Right now, I'm still investigating the safety features of such a quick car.

I have to make a left into the neighborhood from a busy road. I try to time it for gaps in oncoming traffic, but worry I'm going to be rear-ended while waiting. So I use Lucid torque to my advantage: there is a rough patch of road before I make the left, so I slow way down and bounce over the bumps, keeping cars behind me at bay...bunched up on my tail. Then the road smooths out so I suddenly punch it to full torque and put 1/4 mile gap behind me in seconds, leaving a huge margin for safely making the left. In the rear-view: the cars are red-shifted.

{ Redshift, displacement of the spectrum of an astronomical object toward longer (red) wavelengths. It is attributed to the Doppler effect, a change in wavelength that results when an object and an observer are in motion with respect to each other }
This is how you use the incredible torque of the Lucid "for safety". I figure anything I do whilst in "smooth" mode is legal, civil, and safe.

Kudos to the team seeking the record. My financial advisor emailed me the news release before I got the Lucid email. Publicity stunt worked!

Anyone getting fewer than 4 mi/kWh is speeding. There, I said it. You bad boys.

I have always been a proponent of "Active Safety" and my AGT is very, very...safe.
