Lucid hands free

This video is 2.5 years old. It’s interesting to see discussions about the car understanding the user and automatically folding the side mirrors—yet, we’ve been waiting for this feature for the past 2.5 years.

They had an impressive roadmap when promoting the Air; hopefully, it all becomes a reality in the next couple of years.

It is doubtful Level 4 or 5 automation is possible when weather conditions can disrupt LIDAR and cameras on DDPro equipped Airs. There’s also consideration about the computing power required to achieve total self driving capabilities. However, hand’s free driving seems to be the next logical step for DDPro. I’ve had the opportunity to use DDPro on the Merritt Parkway here in CT and on freeways along with adaptive CC on back roads. Both performed well with some rough edges. The rough edge for HA being recognizing cars entering the freeway or merging from the side. I have always had to resume total control in those circumstances. As for ACC I have not yet adjusted to my Lucid’s speed while on approach to vehicles at a complete stop and end up overriding the system.

Hands Free/Self Driving is extremely complicated, as Tesla is demonstrating all too well, but I appreciate the careful approach by Lucid’s engineers. Incremental improvements are much better than bloviating about a feature to the point that some folks have had the roofs of their vehicles sheared off under tractor trailer trucks or worse. Right now I’m very pleased with my solid Level 2 Dream Drive Pro.

Lucid has never promised or suggested they’ll get level 4 or 5 in the Air. Level 3 is the most to expect.
