Dream Edition aiyoooo!

I just got around to reading the Sales Agreement for the Gravity Dream and found this clause:

"Lucid does not provide a warranty for any repairs after sale for used vehicles."

Does this mean the Gravity warranty will not transfer to a subsequent buyer? We bought a used Air Dream after our first one was wrecked, and Lucid has done several repairs of it under warranty.

My comment about the braking behavior came from an answer Eric Bach, Lucid Chief Engineer, gave to a reviewer who was asking about the unusually large rear discs and calipers on the Sapphire. Bach said that the low center of gravity reduced braking dive, thus putting more braking load on the rear wheels.

In any case, I'll defer to you, as you appear to know considerably more about this than I.

There are a lot of misconceptions around this stuff, part of the reason I sometimes feel the need to jump in to offer corrections.

The engineer’s note above about the larger rear calipers is spot on: it indicates less forward weight transfer under braking for the same reasons (low CG height and long wheelbase) that less weight will transfer rearward under acceleration. But again that’s largely independent of anti-dive suspension geometry in the front, which is largely there to prevent nose-dive with geometry, allowing the car to run softer springs for a given amount of platform control.

Full disclosure I am an engineer and once upon a time wrote about cars semi-professionally, so while you will find online references to anti-squat working the way you’re thinking I’m happy to argue with them. Also happy to expand further, this is stuff I used to geek out on.
 
I may have missed this but what is the price differential between a Gravity GT and a Gravity Dream. I’m assuming the Dream is fully loaded with probably the exception of the towing package so I can compare apples to apples. I got the email as well I assumed because I was a current air owner and early adopter

One question I have about the Dream Edition options that I don't think has been answered: Is there an option for Stealth/Platinum in each of the 3 colors that are offered?

Looks like a great deal! If I recall correctly the Air Dream Edition was far more than $14k over an equivalent GT right?

That would be absurd. Lucid, thus far, hasn’t done anything absurd. 🤷‍♂️
 
I wonder if you can request a dream with the smaller wheels. I’ve been through the wringer with the 21s on the Air driving New York roads
 
I must say, I'm torn. My ideal configuration is a Lunar Titanium/Platinum and Ojai...though I also really want the extra HP in the Dream and would be willing to pay the extra $ for it. I wish Lucid would just allow everyone to configure the color combos they want in the Dream edition! #FirstWorldProblems! 😤😖

The 21’s are Michelins I believe. It’s the Pirellis you need to watch out for which in the Gravity are the 22’s.

The towing package is included in the Dream.

That was the color combo I was gong to switch to from my original order for an Aurora Green / Ojai GT. But I want the additional power enough to accept a different combo without too much fretting. I have, however, also thought the Tahoe interior is a bit too orange ever since I saw it for the first time on a pre-production Air back around 2020.

They certainly have, especially when you consider additional features such as rear-wheel steering, the HUD, more computer processing power, etc. However, part of the Air Dream upcharge included different motors with exotic metallurgy from the Air GT, while the Gravity Dream simply uses one of the GGT motors on both axles -- although probably with different power electronics or programming to get the 242 hp bump.

I agree. It is oddly worded for an exclusion clause, so I'm wondering if it's just bad word-smithing? But the clause is there for a reason, and it's important to understand what it means.

I looked at the Sales Agreement for our Air Dream back in 2021, and it contained no similar clause. Also, the original Air warranty stated specifically that it "is provided to the original and subsequent owner(s) of a new Lucid Air sold by Lucid or its affiliates . . . . "

In an interview a while back, Eric Bach mentioned that they were going to have to keep an eye on warranty costs with the Gravity. I suspect they have been eaten alive with the Air warranty costs, especially with having to change HV batteries and drive units and the transport costs to distant service centers. I'm wondering if Lucid felt it had to limit the Gravity warranty only to original purchasers for that reason?

So, until we can find out more, I think we have to assume that clause means what it suggests. If you don't expect to keep the Gravity for the 8 years of the battery and drivetrain warranty (assuming that carries over from the Air), you need to know you're buying a vehicle with a warranty that will not pass to a subsequent buyer.

For my part, I'm going to ask to see the actual warranty before I sign the Sales Agreement. If I can't, it doesn't mean I won't go forward with the purchase, but I want to do so with my eyes open.

I’d be looking for language indicating which parts of the warranty are transferable. There are some cases where warranties are not, for example Genesis has a 10 year, 100k mile powertrain warranty that is not transferable to a new owner (only the first 5 years or 60k miles transfers). But that’s clearly called out and the other warranties do transfer.

I suspect now that Lucid sells lease returns and used cars they added boiler plate attempting to say that used cars they sell don’t get new car warranties, but that elsewhere they will list all their new car warranties as transferable to subsequent owners.

I have also found the Tahoe a bit too orange for my taste ever since first seeing it on a prototype Air back in 2020. I've seen an Aurora Green Gravity with the Yosemite interior at the Miami Worldcenter studio. I love the light beige of our Air Santa Monica interior and was thinking I might go with the Yosemite in the Gravity. But when I actually saw it in Miami, I found that it had a too-white chalkiness that I didn't like at all. So when the GT orders opened up I chose the Ojai interior.

For the Gravity Dream order, I ended up choosing the Tahoe as the interior color only because I disliked it less than the Yosemite.

But what did you mean by "throwing money away" on the Purluxe? If it's a concern about durability or upkeep, I don't think you have to worry. Kyle Conner of "Out of Spec Motoring" and others have found that these new synthetic leathers resist stains and clean superbly -- considerably better than real leather. I bought a set of home theater seats over seven years ago and opted for the higher-cost synthetic leather over the Nappa leather. After years of daily use they still look brand new. The material is supple, is neither hot nor cold to the touch, cleans easily, and is missing only the blemishes that give real leather its character.

I've already emailed my delivery advisor to ask for a copy of the Gravity warranty. As a retired lawyer, I want to give it a good going over.

The only two vehicles I've ever kept close to 8 years are our two Honda Odysseys, as I don't bother about staying on any cutting technology edge with cargo- and people-haulers as much as I do with more sporting cars. So, assuming the Gravity has the longer battery and powertrain warranty as the Air, non-transferability probably won't be a showstopper for me.
 
A few other Dream Edition questions relative to the GT that I hope will be answered in the fullness of time:

- How much quicker to 60?

- Torque increase and change to front/rear split?

- Different final drive ratio?

- Any effect on curb weight and its distribution?

- Any change to RWS deflection angles?

- Why no 20/21" wheel option? Does it relate to any of the above?
