First EV? Kind of surprising

I have been looking at EV’s for years but never became serious until 2020. Huge fan of Mercedes and have/had 3 SL550’s but was hugely disappointed in the EQS when the final design came out. Hate the 5’ screen. Had a deposit on the Taycan but was hugely disappointed when the final design came out and low range.
Will not buy a Tesla after watching the Tesla forum and viewing the fan boys absolutely trashing any owners writing in with problems and needing help. They are brutal and will not tolerate even a tiny bit of criticism. I finally gave up when someone wrote in and said their brand new Model S leaked rain in around the windshield and ruined the whole dash area. The responses such as “don’t be a pu*** and get some window caulk from the hardware store” we’re the last straw for me.
The Lucid is a beautiful design and is exactly what I want.

I've been surprised at the number of people who mentioned that the Air will be the first EV they've owned. We all have different resources available but I would've thought that most would people would dip their toe in the water with a Tesla, E-tron, etc.

Lot of people in my family will be moving over - myself included (hopefully Lucid improve the SW quickly). See pix of us when we gather at our grandma house. All together, 23 Teslas in extended family .... Myself and some of my cousins did the Lucid test-drive. All impressed with the build quality & handling, none impressed with the software (and we're all software people...)

The good thing is the software changes almost bi-weekly

Yes - judging by the frequency that Lucid send out the OTA (not counting Tesla, it's more than ALL manufacturers combined in the last two years !!!), I am confident that Lucid will have most major issues addressed within a year or two. Most of our cars would come Q2/Q3 this year so we might live with those bugs/shortfalls for a while.

Still remember what Tesla sw was like in the early days ...

I'm a first time EV purchaser to be. It doesn't seem strange to me since I've been waiting for an EV that has sufficient range with good build quality and would fit into the "luxury" designation. Early Teslas didn't have the required range. Then all the issues about fit and finish came out, the craziness created by the M3 and MY at Tesla made me shy away from them once range improved. Nissan, KIA, Hyundai, Chevy offerings didn't have sufficient range. The Air is the first EV to meet the criteria I specified for me to want to buy one.

I have only bought mainstream mass produced cars/vans - nissan/honda/toyota. I was looking at lexus hybrids and Audi A6/A7 until I found out about lucid. It's unfortunate the Japanese/Korean companies seem fixated at having a low 300s range as their ceiling rather than their floor or I might have gone that direction.

My frugality (OK, my brother calls me cheap) won't let me buy @Bill55's DE. I can't believe I'm going to spend $100k on a touring. This is replacing my 16 year old Altima (only 70k miles). I'm hoping my wife's 12 year old Prius (120k miles) holds out till Lucid's 3rd model - which I hope is a M3 equivalent.

The Touring is going to be a huge upgrade. You are going to love it. Like you, I wanted a range number well over 300. I'm going to put it to the test later this month driving to Road America in WI, then to Greenville, SC. I've built in some extra days just in case as I plan a route that is frequently away from the interstate. Most of the issues I complain about, your Altima doesn't do anyway and many of them will be fixed before you take delivery.

track the DE at Road America…that sounds fun!

I'm tempted as there will be HPDE sessions between qualifying for the races.
Perhaps if we have room in one of the haulers just in case.
Road Atlanta in July is much closer to home for the team and a more likely venue.
Road America has three straights that the Lucid acceleration can way outperform the brakes / tires. You can talk about going easy in the paddock, then on track it becomes a different story....
The Lucid would be so fast approaching turn 11. Of course at Atlanta it will be braking for 10a and then how fast through 12.
I don't think the stock brakes/tires will hold up very well on track. 5200+ lbs is a lot of mass.
Nobody wants to be the firs guy to put a Lucid into the Armco.

I'm sure you could get in touch with some of the chassis guys who did the track testing of the car...

You sound a lot like me. We did buy a Nissan Leaf 4 years ago to enter the EV world and use as the local car, but I have been waiting for a long range vehicle to replace the Sienna on trips. The Tesla just did not cut it for either comfort or range. My target was always 500 miles or 1000 km which is where I think one needs to be as a trip car. Lucid made the cut, and it is more than twice what I have ever paid for a car in The past, but I believe it will be worth it. The fastest charging for a car is an added trip bonus!

First EV for me too (well, hopefully). I'm still driving my 9yr old 2013 Mazda3 which I'm still happy with. About to hit only 50k miles. I considered getting a Model Y about two years ago but I thought I'd rather keep investing the money instead of getting a new car. Plus it also felt a bit excessive and luxurious (funny to say now that I've reserved an Air). During covid I instead spent spare cash on relief efforts.

Ive been closely following EV mostly since pre production of the Model S which is more than just a commuter car like a Nissan Leaf, praying that Tesla proves the world wrong and paves the way to EV transition. Since then I've been waiting for prices to go down but now I realized the opposite will be happening due to supply chain issues and massive increases in prices of raw materials like lithium. Model Y went from 52k usd to 62k in two years. If I keep waiting too long the federal tax credit will lower over time too. Oh not to mention the crazy high inflation rate. Honestly if it weren't for these three factors I wouldnt be considering EV now and put a few more years on my Mazda.

P.s. also using the Lucid to motivate myself to work harder and more efficiently

Got mine today-my first EV. The ride is awesome. Big learning curve. 😁

I’ve been a car guy since I was 5, but never really been interested in EVs before. Test drove a Model P ~10 years ago and it was super fast in a straight line, but it felt heavy and the interior was horrible on a $100k car. Fast forward to 2020. The only higher end SUV that wasn’t ridiculously priced was the Volvo XC90 T8. The MB GLS I was replacing was 35-40% more expensive for a new version of the same car. I like the T8, but the electric only range is <30 miles on a good day.

The Air genuinely looks like it ticks most of the boxes for an EV for me. It also takes advantage of the inherent traits of an EV to provide packaging advantages over the A8/S-Class/7-Series type cars. Hopefully the software issues will be ironed out by the time I take delivery. As others have said, Lucid have a short window to shine.

Oh, and another person here who likes the idea of not having to talk to a middleman when buying a car.

the XC60 and XC90 t8's have a bigger battery on cars just arriving. EPA electric range is almost doubled to 35 miles and they can now one-pedal drive.

I expect 23 miles from ours. 35 miles isn’t much better IMO. Very interested to see the range of the ‘24 all electric XC90 replacement. It’s a superb family car.

Us too, and the XC60 EV. Our XC40EV is absolutely wonderful apart from some software teething issues.

My plan was to buy a Plaid S, the new yoke/joke along with the rest of the controls and the giant iPad was all a huge turnoff to me. What's crazy is my new daily driver is going to have 225 more HP than my summer/weekend car......
I do wonder if I have a loose screw in my skull, buying my first electric and being somewhat of a guinea pig for Lucid 🤪

Join the club of guinea pigs!

If you go in with the expectation that you are participating in collaborative project that will develop over time, you'll be fine.
