NACS Megathread

When stuff doesn't work, it will never be "Tesla's" fault .. because people are logical that way.

"Works on my machine" mentality.
That's why it's important to not just list the pros of NACS but also the cons.
 
No matter what, we know it’ll be Lucid’s fault.

Cables too short? Lucid’s fault.
Plug and charge fails? Lucid’s fault.
Slow charging speeds. Lucid’s fault.
Tesla owners start keying your car because you are taking up “their” chargers? Lucid’s fault.
Yo I wasn't complaining and I wasn't blaming Lucid for anything. Honestly, I have had very little interest in even accessing the supercharging network to this point. I was just asking a clarification question to try and understand the impact of the announcement. I think sometimes people here are too sensitive and read into things that aren't there.

It was a joke. And it wasn’t directed at you, in any case.

So will Lucid be sending out adaptors or will we have to acquire those on our own??
 
Well, I was the only one who said anything. And it was about cables. And you used cables as an example of people complaining so... I think it's a fair assumption that you were at least referencing my comment/question.

In any case, I wasn't complaining. Let's just leave it at that.

No word on that yet. But my guess is we’ll be buying them. Hopefully they won’t be super expensive. But plan on a few hundred bucks.

Just a guess at this point: Customers of a company that has NACS deal will be able to buy an adapter from their own company.

The price for CCS1 to Tesla is $175. Thus, the price for the reverse adapter NACS to CCS1 should be around that price point. It should not be as expensive as ChaDeMo to Tesla adapter that costs more than $500.

Of course there will be cheaper adapters on Ebay but if something goes wrong, you'll be blamed and the warranty will not cover the towing and repairs.

IMO it's not likely, as the changes to accommodate NACS are more than just swapping out a connector.

We had a preview from Europe when other companies started to use Superchargers over there. It was quite chaotic but doable: A car might block 2 or 3 stalls in order to get close enough to charge.

I guess it will be the same in North America until the short cable issue will be resolved.

I remain a bit optimistic on this. The communication standards are the same, the question is where and how are the AC and DC connections separated on NACS for level 2 versus level 3 charging. CCS separates AC and DC pins on the plug where NACS combines them and the car's internal onboard charging system separates them.
 
The Tesla charging network is light years better than EA. I have used both. Tesla is just making serious $ income off the supercharging network. They brought the cart before the horse.
