Drive System Fault Megathread

After almost 3 days of my AGT parked/idle at home, I was going to drive the vehicle to my son’s game tonight and alas, I got the “Drive system fault” error on the screen. And of course, the vehicle won’t drive. While, so glad and fortunate to be at home when this happened, this is indeed very scary. The last time I drove the vehicle was to an EA charging station and then to my local discount tire shop to purchase extended warranty on the tires. Current odometer mileage is 265 miles.

Luckily, customer service was still opened and they worked me through using the fob to reset the vehicle (press the C letter on the fob once) to put the vehicle to sleep and twice to wake it up again. I am a bit uncomfortable now to drive the vehicle until mobile service show up later in the week to diagnose. The one thing I am concerned about is them coming and not able to replicate or figure out what could have led to the issue.

It sure is scary, especially if one is in the middle of the highway or some remote locations out of nowhere. I just read someone on the forum encountered the issue while on a road trip and had to wait for almost 4hrs for a flatbed tow truck before heading to the airport via lyft.

The CS agent confirmed several owners have reported the issue, so surprised that a recall notice or official advisory is not in effect for such a huge safety issue and a permanent fix found. I guess we all have to start reporting to the DMV/DoT to get Lucid to act and formally acknowledge.
They should have a record in the logs of it happening, even if they can’t make it happen again.

But in many cases, this warning does seem to happen once and then go away. Which is not reassuring, I’m sure.

A recall would imply it was either a widespread or consistent issue, or that it was a safety issue. If it’s an intermittent warning that happens once when you start the car, is fixed on a reset, and is actually due to software (for example), then an OTA would resolve it and there is nothing to recall.

The "C" is the only button on the fob. That locks the car. After a few seconds, it will go to sleep. So, basically they had you lock and unlock.
 
I had a Drive System Warning pop up on my GT a few weeks back. Car seems to run completely normal. BTW, this is not the Drive System Fault warning light that I have seen discussed on this thread.

I called Lucid and they asked me to take it in ASAP. The car has been at the Costa Mesa service center for about 2 weeks. No one knows whats going on yet. They said they were discussing with the engineers back at HQ.

Anyone else have an idea of what's going on or have had similar issues?

I had a “similar” warning, but not the same as yours. After a “Battery Failure - System will shut down in 2 minutes” warning (2 times), I got the following on the screen:

I didn’t drive it any more, having safely pulled over into a dirt lot off the highway exit. My HV battery pack is going to be replaced after they looked up the car VIN and battery serial number. Luckily I’m in Arizona and the HV battery pack is only a day or so away.
 
I also had the Drive System Fault and and over 2 weeks in service. Took until Day 13 to finally get a diagnosis. They narrowed it to front or back drive units or HVAC battery. They initially were going to replace all 3 parts. Today I was told they changed their mind. Instead of repairing they are scraping everything and giving me a new car. Since I had the car that only had 800 miles I don't consider this a great comfort. I think I would rather get a new car repaired then run all the risks of a brand new car and a new round of system faults. Also concerning that all these system faults with similar outcomes have different causes instead of one common fix or recall.

Wait… You would rather have a car with multiple repairs than a brand new one?
 
I got Drive System Warning 12/23/22 and reported to CC and SC that day. SC said it was serious but didnt have time until 1/19 to pick it up. I limited my drives to max 5 miles from home and in town as not to get rear-ended in a big accident in case the car would turtle or brick. They just finished replacing the HV battery pack yesterday. But its still in the shop for Home Link repairs. Received my agt 10/13/22. Its now been 57 days in the SC and counting. It has only 400 to 700 miles on it. I dont remember the exact milage since its been so long in the shop.

Interesting that they are going to replace your HV battery after looking at the battery serial number. I wonder if they know something about those batteries.
 
Wait… You would rather have a car with multiple repairs than a brand new one?
From what I have read those that have had the 'drive system fault' repaired have not had the problem return. And this is not an ICE car, not really repairing anything just replacing with brand new non faulty parts. My car only had 800 miles on it but a newer one runs the risk of the same thing happening. I would really like to know what percentage of cars are getting the drive system fault?

This was triggered on my car by a nearby radar installation causing some false sensor error. It was cured every time by a reboot and never resulted in any actual mechanical issue, and was also reproducible so I just don’t drive near that location now. If your car drives just fine and a reboot erases the message then you should be fine, I was told that on the phone by Lucid service.

I recently experienced the amber Drive System Warning as well after first putting the car in gear. In my case the Warning cleared itself after 20 seconds or so... The car continued to drive wonderfully. The Mobile Service Tech captured all my data logs which he forwarded to Engineering. Whatever they saw was enough to have them take my AT back to the Houston SC. My Service Advisor said I was third in line to have my HV Battery replaced. I requested any info on root cause, but haven't heard back on that. They are completing a Dead Pedal repair and should have the car back to me in the next few days. Fingers crossed I have no more problems.

Have to say I'm pleased with the communication and responsiveness of the Houston SC. Guess the turn around time on the HV Battery changeout varies by SC based on their backlog...

Wow Sorry you need a new battery! Glad they have been really responsive in Houston. I hope you get your car back quickly. Did you end up getting some sort of loaner / rental?

I tried multiple resets without success over the course of a few days before I brought it to the SC so I figured this was a legitimate error that needed attention.

Well, to be fair, they did do a days worth of diagnostics and sent them to Lucid Engineering, before they asked about the battery information. But since I probably had one of the early battery packs, I'm sure they took that into account too.

As a side note, I never had the 520mi range show up since day 1: it was 516mi. Before this problem my 100% range was <510 mi, with the corresponding reduction at 80%. A net 2% loss from 520mi, which is not bad, but I really wish it started at 520mi from day 1.

Is your car a Dream edition? They were the only version with 520 EPA. GT with 19s have an EPA range of 516.

I hope to be getting my car back this afternoon from the Houston Service Center... I started experiencing the same amber Drive System Warning when putting the car into gear after the last two OTAs. The warning cleared after 30 seconds and the car drove fine. After Engineering reviewed my data logs, they wanted to bring the car in for further analysis. My Service Advisor told me this morning "The recent software updates have been designed to be a little more sensitive to the battery so the alert picked up on something in there. Your tech had actually asked our engineering team about it because even he couldn’t see the blip when he ran his report. It looks like they’re wanting us to be safe and make sure we get this taken care of right away to prevent anything further." Looks like Lucid is starting to proactively replace the High Voltage Battery Pack to avoid more significant problems...
