WINDSHIELD REFLECTIONS ( Dash & HUD)

It should be an option to have it on or off when driving
Hopefully that gets added at some point. Funny that they paid so much attention to turning off the light to avoid reflections but the HUD is the most reflective HUD on the market 😂

is that the location you're talking about? I checked mine today and the light strip is not there....Does mobile service fix that or have to send it to a full blown service appt?View attachment 36957View attachment 36958
There is definitely not a light strip between the drivers door and HUD. If you can't see it visually slide your fingernail bottom to top of any light strip and then that one. You will notice a little step transition between the translucent part of the strip and the opaque plastic top. The driver side to HUD strip is one continuous piece of plastic. Fine with me.

Has Lucid actually confirmed the HUD has been updated to resolve the reflective issues? I know they’re looking into it but wasn’t aware a fix has happened yet.

here's from my service appt completed today (3/6/26)
Concern: Client states the HUD is misaligned so it is not in focus at all. Please inspect and advise
Cause: HUD adjustment not available at this time
Corrections: Technician performed function test using HUD while driving vehicle.
HUD alignment is not offered currently and under review

Concern: Client states the HUD screen itself glows when it is on and reflects on the windshield, so not just the information on the HUD is displayed it
distorts the view out the front of the windshield and makes using it impossible. Please inspect and advise .
Cause: No adjustment able to be performed at this time, HUD issues under investigation.
Corrections: Technician performed a vehicle scan using Lucid Diagnostic System, unable to find relevant Diagnostic Trouble Code relevant to concern.
Performed function test on vehicle's HUD, unable to find abnormalities with operation.
NOTE -
Lucid HUD simulates an augmented reality (AR). Projection and visibility may feel distorted when driving during busy traffic. Due to several complaints
regarding functionality, focus and alignment of the HUD it is currently under investigation and we awaiting a permament solution.

I experienced the HUD reflector glare on the windshield for the first time yesterday. Sun was at just the right (wrong) angle when driving northbound. Huge white glare spot blocking the view of the road. Wow, that was dangerous.

I just ordered some black microfiber towels from Amazon so I can throw one in there when the sun is at the wrong angle.

The list of "make up for" and "settle for" issues with what was supposed to be the most perfect luxury car is mounting. It does a lot of things great, but it also does a lot of things badly/disappointingly.

Sorry to revive this chat. Can folks comment if they see the blue oval with the HUD off?

Thanks.

After getting my HUD replaced, I now see the blue oval with HUD on or off. It's not as large as before and before I could only see if if I moved to a certain position. I can also make it go away now if I move to a certain position, but that is not optimal for the display. It also, obviously, depends on the sun angle if it's visible or not.

HUD off or on will not change the blue oval - with the right direction of the sun reflecting on the front-surface aspheric mirror, which is typically made of optical-grade polycarbonate (plastic) material used on the HUD it gives the blue oval reflection.
To prevent the glare or blue oval you need to cover it with a towel

Appreciate the quick replies.

For context, ordered with the power package but it’s delayed. They have one matching everything I want but with the tech package which I was avoiding because of the glare and blue oval issues.

FWIW I have almost never seen the blue oval thing people talk about, even in bright sun in SoCal.

I’ve found it’s more prominent July to August in my area and when the sun is in it’s peak position. The rest of the year it’s just the normal shadow that all HUD’s create which you get used to.

Guessing after all this time it’s not as simple as just replacing the plastic on the HUD to solve the problem.

Have only seen blue oval a few times. Typically when I lean over to change something on infotainment (so I am crouching down) and the sun is at right angle. Never been a constant annoyance.

I went on a test drive on a cloudy day in PA and saw it the whole time. It was horrible. Interesting how it’s hit or miss.

Move 😂

I almost never saw the blue oval in my old HUD but it had a temperature control issue that caused its brightness sensing to fail so it would auto-cycle brightness every 5-10 seconds, super annoying. So I got it replaced and now I get the blue ovals usually between 11am to 3pm depending on the angle of the sun. It’s not a deal breaker or terrible but is distracting.

Drivers, Windshields and HUD signal and noise.

Cars have dark dashes to limit dash reflection ghosts in the windshield. All cars have light conditions that cause visible reflections of dash. Chrome, vents, contrasting stitching and shadows from multilevel dashes and even varying dash surface textures project project.

On the small HUD projector on my son’s S class MB, the only reflection on the windshield was the HUD projected data. I call this a noticeable ‘signal’ imposed on the signals of the relevant view of the road and its surroundings. There was no other visual from the HUD. No ‘noise’.

In the early Dream Edition iteration of HUD there I saw a light white ‘greyed’ rectangle reflection ie a very consistent reflection of the larger projector surface. I assume ( usually not a good thing) that physical warping distorted this rectangle into the ‘orb ghosts’ that others saw.

On a recent build Gravity with HUD (I did not sit in but looked at through a n open side window) It was clear that the frame of the HUD was very clear sharply and it seemed unavoidably projected on the windshield. I could not tell if the screen projection partially ‘greyed’ the large rectangular shape inside that frame.

I categorized all of this, the greyed rectangle and even the visible frame as visual ‘noise’. Noise that your brain ‘filters’.

Interested in learning just how much secondary reflection persists in the recently delivered HUDs.

Note: a common Neurosensory phenomena for humans, signal to noise filtering declines as we age. (that is the reason many hearing aids are abandoned to a life in the patient’s dresser draw.)

And yes, I am old ( but have not yet retired my hearing aids to li in a drawer).
i totally see your point. the only time i had a HUD was circa 2012 in an Audi A7. it was rendered in a manner that let me completely focus on the driving. the clarity, choice of color, and the brevity of information was just right. the projection was just right, and any reflection of the hardware below didn't get in the way (but it was there). in my 2026 Gravity, i am constantly aware of the reflection during the day. i wonder if they would've been better off using an anti-glare coat on the projection screen.

as to the content of the HUD, it is poorly done in a totally techie way. use of brackets around the speedometer and turn-by-turn information is amateurish. the blindspot detection could be improved. turn-by-turn should be separated out and rendered with some type of clear and concise graphic, more consistent with the same information in the on-screen navigation.

it's all noise, i agree. i hope they improve.

It seems that the HUD has two separate problems. One is the software that they contracted an expert vendor to fix. The other seems to be the physical hardware that causes distracting reflections on the windshield. This may need a major physical unit revision & replacement to resolve.

I’m glad you haven’t discarded your hearing aids as in addressed hearing loss can increase your risk of early onset dementia.

I see a large blue oval reflection at peak sun mid day in the Bay area. It occasionally borders or glaring / dangerous but is mostly just mildly annoying and the sun has to be at the perfect height and angle for it to appear. If I drove around my car more mid-day I'd probably be more annoyed but that's limited to occasional weekends.
