WINDSHIELD REFLECTIONS ( Dash & HUD)

I am aware of the switch and the adjustments… but at its lowest it is not low enough for my eyes. Switching it off doesn’t stop the convex mirror from reflecting the sun from certain angles. Try driving in middle the day in a circle… you will find the sun in your eyes every so often. The projector mirror reflects the sun into your eyes every so often. Might need a higher edge around it…

Perhaps driving around in circles indicates the problem is really your faulty GPS (Only kidding)

Does anyone who is currently driving a Gravity w/ HUD love the HUD? I get the impression that a few here have had more significant problems with it, and some owners have chimed in saying they aren't seeing annoying reflections. But I don't think I've heard anyone say that they really like the HUD. Maybe that's because its value is presently unrealized, waiting for the AR features to arrive some day?

Personally coming from not having a HUD, now I would want one for all my future cars
Aside from the orb ghost or reflection on the windshield from the rectangular frame of the HUD - these visual "noise" doesn't bother me after driving for a period of time; it just becomes muted for me.
However I can see where it would bother other drivers - so it is highly dependent on personal preference & how much you can visual ignore the "noise"

This is my first HUD, initial thoughts on a long highway drive as the vibration of the dash can cause nausea especially if you get motion sickness easily when viewing the HUD display.
But subsequent drives it didn't bother me anymore & I can't imagine not having it - plus you can turn it off & enable it after you put it in park

Yeah, that's the one. This is my first HUD as well; I was curious about the tech. for a while but just didn't find a vehicle that I wanted that had the feature.

I will say that seeing how other manufacturers are advancing with their HUD tech (e.g., BMW: https://www.theverge.com/2025/1/7/24335460/bmw-ces-2025-idrive-heads-up-display-ar), Lucid's implementation, even what they have in the video, is pretty conservative and tame in comparison. Maybe that's by choice, or maybe they just haven't had the time + experience to render a more full-featured HUD interface.

Having blithely missed exits for superchargers when my M3 was down to single digits and nervously eked my way back to the only supercharger for 50+ miles--I want that HUD in my face.

Different strokes for different folks. I absolutely want a HUD but I want it discretely toward the bottom but just above where it would be blocked by the steering wheel.

I love the HUD. The triangle blind spot awareness in the corners are immensely helpful and that one feature alone makes the HUD worth it to me as people hug your blind spots in New England. My Volvo V60 Polestar HUD doesn’t do blind spot awareness, and also its display seems too small after using the Gravity one. I do not have any blue ovals but also sit rather high cuz I’m short, but the only way I can even see an oval is if I sit stupidly low where I can barely see out of the car. I’ve found the HUD does best on the dimmest setting, brighter makes you see the outline too much.

You still have the alerts on your side view mirrors though right?

yeah you get those too but it’s so much better to have them show up in the corners of the HUD as you can keep your eyes on the road, so now I don’t even bother to try and change a lane if the HUD alerts me, but if there’s no alert in the HUD THEN I double check the mirror and turn signal camera then change lanes.

I took delivery in the afternoon and the HUD seemed fine, a bit basic and the blurriness was really annoying, but I was glad the info was there. Then the next day with full sun I got two sets of very distracting reflections, the bottom reflection in the photo and the big blue oval above it. The photo doesn't really do it justice, the bottom reflection is more visible in the photo, but the blue oval is a lot more distracting. I currently have a black t shirt blocking the whole thing since the effects are there even with the HUD off.

My Genesis GV60P HUD displays a vehicle in my blind spot by showing what I call a red blush along side the display on that side of the display. I'm old so I still turn my head and double check but, then again, I still remember how to hand signal a turn.

wow, I must say that's pretty bad. my Land Rover's is nothing like that, it's completely dark.

now I'm thinking back to the demo drive I did in May where the car was equipped with a HUD but they didn't want to turn it on. I wonder if it had something covering it at the time. never thought to look at it closely.

My test drive also… they had a cover over it. To be ready for the 2k trip I just went on I tossed in the now unecessary front floor mat just in case i hit any long patches of straight roads with our sun directly overhead… only saw the bright reflection a few times for seconds in 2k miles so… prolly worried for nothing. Never tossed the mat over it and used the Head not quite up Display alot and like it… would like it better if it aimed higher for us taller in the saddle folks.

You can adjust it higher in the settings. It defaults to the lowest possible position.

Already tried… doesn’t have the range for me… still looking down to see it… adjusted seat, hud, etc

As an experiment I drove all weekend with the HUD. The reflection issue really is angle dependent. I only had a couple moments where it was annoying. For the moment I have a mat to cover it if it gets bad.

Having said that, it's still blurry and looks wonky, I don't see any way to focus or adjust in a direction besides up/down.

this capture from the Kelly Blue Book review gives a pretty good idea of what to expect for just the reflection. I didn't realize how huge that HUD is.

Our early demo drive had a mat over the HUD too. We now know the HUD can just be “off”, so it probably was to help with any sort of reflections since it wasn’t in use anyway.

I think many of us on here have had HUDs on other vehicles. I've had at least 5 across Mazda, Volvo, and BMW. While the Gravity's is the largest, highest, and brightest I have used, it is also the blurriest and by far the most reflective on the windshield, by a very wide margin.

The HUD does seem to be one place where Lucid was clearly trying to do too much, based on what folks are saying. A “regular” HUD may have been fine…
