My wife recently pointed out that the left rear window trim has "shifted" (i.e., it sticks further out in the back than in the front and is noticeably different than the right rear window). With this "shift" the car is also noticeably louder when driving at highway speeds. Has anyone else encountered this?

Contact service to adjust it.

Some more detail on this (mine is being fixed as we speak), they have metal clips which can/should be installed to hold the trim in place. My car didn't have any issues when I first go it, but the trim on the right rear window is substantially off. The left rear window exhibits the issue to a minor degree. This misalignment causes the window to have a bowed-out appearance. It's really just a result of it being guided into the wrong spot by the displaced trim.

KOP service team is well aware of it and says it's a quick fix. I'll report back on how the wind noise improves after this.

There is actually a technical service bulletin for this well-documented fix. They will replace several retaining clips with more stiff ones. I had this done at the Seattle Service Center this summer, and it made an amazing difference in wind noise. Since my car does not have soft-close doors, I think the added stress of closing the doors manually would have a detrimental affect on those clips, such that those black horizontal bars at the top would constantly be on the move. Since the new clips went in, they have not moved a bit, and the car is very quiet.

Can you share the TSB number and line item?

Exactly the same TSB reference in my invoice from the repairs yesterday. They also replaced the tape for the front speakers, in lower A Pillar with a the butyl damping patch.

They also replaced rear shelf with latest revision. It was the first one of this revision that this particular Service Tech had installed, he noticed it was smaller, and makes ZERO contact with the glass. I drove home 120 miles, squeak free.

Importantly, the TSB means “this is a fix for if a problem is observed or mentioned.”

The “Lower A-Pillar Speaker Distortion” fix is a TSC (TSC-B0824-001-01), which means “do it the next time the car is in for anything at all, period” so eventually every car will get this done the next time it is seen. Not urgent, but at your annual or whenever you bring it in next for service; think of it like the bear decal campaign before they were shipped with every car. You don’t get to bring it in just for that, but while it’s there for whatever else it’s there for, they’ll apply your bear decals (unless you told them not to), and they’ll swap the tape on the lower A-Pillar speakers too.

So are they saying every car either has or will get this speaker distortion in the lower A-plillar? I’m bringing mine in to replace the seat back cover in early November, so is this done automatically at that time?

Yes. Anytime service sees the car.

To be clear: I am not saying every car
“either has or will get this speaker distortion in the lower A-plillar”

I am saying every car will get the improvement for this problem, regardless of whether they experience it or not.
