What to Expect: Repair and Labor Costs After Warranty

Some parts prices are as expected. Some parts are crazy expensive and some parts are rather cheap.
$15,000 for a Sapphire spoiler.

Much thanks and gratitude to @Rogue for sending in his total loss vehicle cost estimate. The spreadsheet has been further updated to include additional information.

If anyone else has good data points, send them along to me. I am happy to receive any and all available information.

Further thanks to @Denali_Dane for putting up with my insufferable Lucid talk while smoking a delicious cigar. Also, thanks for the cigar.
DM me your email. I have lots of invoices.

I have a supplement that eventually led to the totaling of the car covering a significant number of parts. This was pre adjustment from the insurance company on parts, labor hours, and pricing.

Expect $150+ hourly rates for labor. If you had specific parts in mind, I can likely find it in the report and provide an estimated cost.
@californiaboy935, I have one of these too if you want me to send it to you.

It’s entirely carbon fiber.

Yes, it’s still insane, but at least it’s an expensive material heh
It’s worth it!! Might have to buy the Sapphire instead of the Sapphire spoiler tho…

Better value.

Or maybe I can retrofit this baby into the GTP… what do you think @Denali_Dane, more garage projects?

Easy
Will take a couple hours, tops.

Has anyone had an out of warranty service performed at a distant service center that required shipping the car? If so, did Lucid continue to cover the transport cost, as they do when under warranty, or was the full shipping cost the owners responsibility?

I asked about this too and the shipping costs will be on us, Lucid will not pay for it.

Thanks! That could be a tough one to swallow...I did a quick search on roundtrip cost for enclosed transport to my closest service center 200 miles away & it was $1,000+. That's a heck of a service premium.

.. and that's (in part) why I sold my Air and leased a Gravity. I was up to 48k miles and didn't want to be on the hook for transport or travel time for mobile techs, not to mention the repairs themselves. Lucid really needs to get on the extended warranty bandwagon.

That's going to be tough and unprecedented, (as the insurer) you can't properly calculate the risk of the total cost of the warranty if you have such a wide variable in transport costs. What if the owner moves further away? What if (some how) a repair shop closes and the next closest one is 2k miles away? I don't see anyone offering an extended warranty for Lucid's until they can properly scale the SC's nationwide.

Or they can open up repair/diagnosis software and parts to indepedent shops. Not all repairs should require a SC.

Have you gotten a quote from an approved repair shop? It was significantly higher than what the SC quoted me because of the cost they had to bear to GET certified.

Which is exactly where the real issue are for the owners who aren't in major markets that have SC's, this makes routine items 10x more complicated.

Exactly, they are overly restricting the independent repair process. If they want to do it all internal they have to open a lot more SC to cover the country. If they want independent shops they have to open the process up to lower the cost of entry. They can't continue the way they are, especially if they expect larger volumes as the mid size comes to market.

They are not using the time available as a low volume manufacturer to establish a viable repair process needed to support larger volumes they expect to sell in the future.

Idk where the margin is on that training and certification, if they are getting margin on it then yes 100% agree, if they are just passing on the cost, that’s the sweet spot, but idk if I’d say they should take a loss to do it, especially given their current cash flow position

I called two places to determine what the cost would be for an extended warranty. Endurance will not service a Lucid. CarShield offered unlimited miles, fixed price, and no term limit at $159.99 a month for their Platinum plan.

Have not called anywhere else, but given the labor costs, independent shop costs, and material costs, the ~$2k likely comes out ahead.

They are kinda already doing this.

My local service center, while listed on the Lucid website as a service center, is a "satellite location to the Tysons Corner service center".
There is absolutely no Lucid branding at the location; much to my shock on first visit.
The facility is located behind an existing auto repair/body shop that is certified to work on over 30 car brands.
What role the repair/body shop played in determing the location? Not sure.

The service tech said the location used to be a Tesla service center until Tesla opened up a dedicated service center (like the "fancy" Lucid service centers) in the area.
The plan seems to be to open a dedicated Lucid service center in the same region as my satellite service center, which btw does excellent work.
