What could cause this rear undercarriage piece to break?

Just noticed today that the rear bottom aero plastic piece decided it doesn't want to stay on the car... From a glance it seems like I would just need to replace the piece, but it does make me wonder, since there's nothing behind it, what could cause it to break in the first place? Perhaps I bottomed out when trying to leave a parking lot?

That doesn't seem too unlikely. I've bottomed mine out leaving a parking garage.

From the look of it, with the clips still on, it looks like you may have backed out from a high point or curb at an angle. Another scenario is that it was always like this and when they either loaded or unloaded the vehicle during or before delivery Lucid also may have missed this. Contact your advisor and I'm sure they'd be able to help with any trim or plastic. I may be mistaken but that portion being the battery it must be covered and protected from the elements, hence the thick ass plastic.

Seems like backing up onto a wheel stopper in parking lot is a reasonable assumption, though I don't remember hearing anything recently.... There's metal behind the cover so I don't think battery goes that far back, but it definitely hurts efficiency on the highway.

My rear bottom piece is completely broken and missing. After driving in rain and got back home saw some white stuff sticking under the car. I thought a plastic cover had been picked up by the underbody and I can just pull it out. When I laid down on the floor and looked, I was shocked to see large part of the under body cover just broken and missing with pieces still attached with screws and tabs!!. White thing I saw was insulation sticking out. Called customer service and they put me in touch with service center in Michigan (I live in Indianapolis - no service center). The tech asked me to go and get it checked with approved local body shop repair. Welll… they checked and told me that no signs of impact and it’s a warranty issue. They sent the report back to lucid on their standard system. But no call back from lucid. I called lucid multiple times and finally got someone who said that they updated the ticket and someone will be in touch with me. Over a week has passed and still no news. Tech that advised me initially to go to body shop isn’t responding to me anymore. Car is sitting in garage as I don’t want to have anymore damage to the internal parts of the car. Today have sent an email to Custpmer service hoping to get their attention. Quite frustrating.. + my lease is ending in next 3 months. Was thinking of buying this car but I think I am better off getting rid of it and walk away completely. Doesn’t feel like I am dealing with a premier car company…

Wait, stop.

How are they (this local body shop) able to determine what’s covered under Lucid Warranty and don’t have access to the Internal Warranty Book & Guidelines?
(Employee Use Only)

(yes, there is a customer facing version and internal version Legal and Service Managers adhere too). Was this a Lucid Service/body shop on the approved list? or just some random one you were close by too?

"They sent the report back to lucid on their standard system. But no call back from lucid"

Sent what over exactly? and to who & where? ... The Service Manager determines the Warranty Coverage & Repairs In Service, so Lucid CustCare wouldn't need to be involved if you were told "Its Covered" & If "Its Covered" then they would tow the vehicle for free, have it repaired and deliver it back to you.

I'm Confused.

Wouldn't a Lucid approved shop have familiarity with Lucid's process, and perhaps access to some number of non-public documents?

Thanks for taking time to respond. Here are answers to your questions.

When the service center from MI (closest for me at Indianapolis) called me, I had asked whether a mobile tech can be sent or should I bring it to one of the service centers. The answer was to take it to Lucid approved body shop (Conan’s body and paint) in Zionesville IN and get it reviewed for an assessment of whether it is a result of a collision or warranty issue. He had also said that body shop’s report will be as good as their own review since they are an approved shop.

On the second question, apparently, Lucid has a system they open up to approved repair/body shops where the reports can be uploaded and Lucid gives decision for yes or no in the system itself. However person who inspected my car told me that body shop has an Air with them for warranty repair which is just waiting on parts from Lucid for over 6 months already. So he wasn’t sure how long Lucid is going to take to respond or send parts. He encouraged me to get in touch with Lucid to expedite. It’s been 3 weeks since body shop sent the report and even today they still dont have a response from Lucid.

Oh, ok that makes more sense.

So they haven’t warranty approved it, they just stated any part right now will take a 3/4 week minimum.

Customer care can’t expedite unfortunately and Parts is not customer facing. Customer Care would only reach out to parts with your info as they would tell Customer Care the same thing.

Parts are on back order. Tell customer to Wait.

Not really, they are not authorized to approve warranty work. That’s more of a trained service manager at a lucid location. Body shop is assessing the damages and sending photos for someone else (service manager) to review if it’s covered under lucid warrant or customer responsibility.

Yes. I do understand the logistics part of it. However, what’s painful is that there is no communication either to me or to the body shop. Like whether they have seen it, processing it, possible timelines or if they are contending the warranty claim etc. Nothing is clear. I am afraid of taking my car on road in fear of damaging the exposed inner parts (with gravel, debris etc). Meanwhile lease is ending in next few months. I wanted to keep this car but with this experience, I am reconsidering. Hopefully they get back to me or to body shop before it’s time for me to return the car.

My rear diffuser was broken by a hauler when I shipped my car. It was about $800 to replace the unit, and this was paid for by the hauler. The Lucid mobile tech (it was repaired in my driveway :)) also found a gouge in my battery pack--nothing requiring repair, but it was close. I would worry about driving around without the diffuser in place to protect the battery.

It’s hard to imagine that damage as from something other than impact, with the evidence laying on the road somewhere.

I don’t know but having owned a lowered Audi I’ve been very careful about road conditions. So I would think other owners would be as aware of the possibility and drive carefully. So would otherwise noticed if they hit something

While you are waiting for a response from somebody just duct tape that sucker up so that the cover is in place.

I actually had enough of the panel connectors intact to get the panel back up off the road until it could be replaced. It took me a minute to figure it out, but it held a few weeks until repair.
