I stand corrected. As per page 199 of the manual, it appears to be 5 lug indeed, with the center locking nut an actual locking nut but for the wheel cover, not the wheel itself.You’re aware that you’ve just posted a picture of a 5 lugnut wheel with a faux center locking wheel cap, right?
@hmp10 journalists suck.
No idea. The more likely scenario is journalists suck, and got confused.True that. I still remember the "Car & Driver" article that lauded the Lucid Air's air suspension two years after the car was in production with a coil spring suspension.
However, multiple press sources besides "Top Speed" referred to the center lock wheels. For example, "Torque News": "The Lucid Air Sapphire departs from the aerodynamic wheel designs seen on the rest of the Air family in favor of lightweight forged wheels with race-style center locks."
And then there are the numerous tire manufacturers and retailers who refer to the Sapphire as a "center lock" model.
I'm wondering if the Sapphire prototypes that were demonstrated to the press had center lock wheels that were changed to 5-lug wheels for production?
Yup.I think it's confusing since the wheel is 5 lug but it's the aero cover that is apparently "center lock" as per Lucid's own press release.
- Removable carbon fiber aero wheel covers with center lock nut
I’m interested in thatI was going to post that I was able to get a company to remake these in '19s because i wanted a winter/range tire that wasnt ugly. Wheels would have center lock for carbon fiber aero cover. and weight 20 lbs. I'll post more info in anyone is interested.
The sapphire wheels will not fit the rear of a non-sapphire. The tires will rub the body work near the back of the rear doors.@borski, yes, but those fender flares are simply added on to the existing body, no? In other words, the non-sapphire body lines and fender opening is still there, but made visually wider with the attached fender flared.
Under compression, would the tire not hit the wheel of the fender opening of the narrow bodied car? Curious.
I did ask Duxpur before. They can do that as well, but each carbon fiber cover would cost $400 each / $1600 set. And with another 8 weeks of prodiuciton time. Perfect for folks who has lot of patience lol.I’m interested in that
This is not accurate. The center lock is only for the aero covers. 5 lug nut wheel.The Sapphire wheels are center lock wheels and cannot be mounted on a car with lug mounts without modification.

These wheels look incredible, but how are they able to offer a fully forged wheel at this price point? Are you sure they're fully forged and not flow-formed? BC wheels are usually the most cost-effective fully forged wheel and even those will cost you around $4k for a set.
I see it's available in 18" so does this mean an 18" wheel can fit our Lucid?
This seems important for a 5400lb car with ridiculous torque.and they won't disclose the load rating of the wheel.
