Wait is worth it! 21" OE-109 from Duxpur Forged Wheel!

You’re aware that you’ve just posted a picture of a 5 lugnut wheel with a faux center locking wheel cap, right?
I stand corrected. As per page 199 of the manual, it appears to be 5 lug indeed, with the center locking nut an actual locking nut but for the wheel cover, not the wheel itself.

@hmp10 journalists suck.

@hmp10 journalists suck.

True that. I still remember the "Car & Driver" article that lauded the Lucid Air's air suspension two years after the car was in production with a coil spring suspension.

However, multiple press sources besides "Top Speed" referred to the center lock wheels. For example, "Torque News": "The Lucid Air Sapphire departs from the aerodynamic wheel designs seen on the rest of the Air family in favor of lightweight forged wheels with race-style center locks."

And then there are the numerous tire manufacturers and retailers who refer to the Sapphire as a "center lock" model.

I'm wondering if the Sapphire prototypes that were demonstrated to the press had center lock wheels that were changed to 5-lug wheels for production?

I was going to post that I was able to get a company to remake these in '19s because i wanted a winter/range tire that wasnt ugly. Wheels would have center lock for carbon fiber aero cover. and weight 20 lbs. I'll post more info in anyone is interested.

No idea. The more likely scenario is journalists suck, and got confused.

@borski, yes, but those fender flares are simply added on to the existing body, no? In other words, the non-sapphire body lines and fender opening is still there, but made visually wider with the attached fender flared.

Under compression, would the tire not hit the wheel of the fender opening of the narrow bodied car? Curious.
The sapphire wheels will not fit the rear of a non-sapphire. The tires will rub the body work near the back of the rear doors.

I did ask Duxpur before. They can do that as well, but each carbon fiber cover would cost $400 each / $1600 set. And with another 8 weeks of prodiuciton time. Perfect for folks who has lot of patience lol.

The Sapphire wheels are center lock wheels and cannot be mounted on a car with lug mounts without modification.
This is not accurate. The center lock is only for the aero covers. 5 lug nut wheel.

Yep, that got cleared up in later posts on the thread. Some of the press reports that I had read on the Sapphire got it wrong.

Of course...only if I could wait another two month! They are running BF sale now. $2385 for a set of custom 21" shipped !

These wheels look incredible, but how are they able to offer a fully forged wheel at this price point? Are you sure they're fully forged and not flow-formed? BC wheels are usually the most cost-effective fully forged wheel and even those will cost you around $4k for a set.

I see it's available in 18" so does this mean an 18" wheel can fit our Lucid?

Forged wheels are not expensive as you think. Especially when they ship straight from factory. (I do a lot of importing)

There's a guy who find out turth where big name brand like HRE, AL13 import the blank forging from China. People pay high price tag just for the name.

BC forged is good brand, unfortunately they can't customize the design, and they won't disclose the load rating of the wheel.

I don't think so, but maybe their wheel can clear? It's better to ask them directly.

This seems important for a 5400lb car with ridiculous torque.

Exactly. Dunno why BC want to keep that a secret.

My rule of thumb is to make the wheel carry the same load rating as the OEM 21" tire, which is 1929 lb, so I specifically told Duxpur I wanted my wheel to meet that requriement and they redo the CAD for me. The only downside is it make the wheel heavier, but a 1-2lb exchange for safety is a no-brainer for me.
