Toyota bZ4X: Mediocre at best

But the thing about Toyota is that it won't give up and by the third or fourth iteration it will have a good, reliable working car. Certainly not the bZ4X or its Lexus equivalent.

The problem is that this car is a piece of crap and people will buy it because it's Toyota. For the rest of us, we will suffer because it charges so poorly that they will clog up chargers. 62 minutes to get to 80%!! c'mon!
  • FWD: 71.4 kWh battery (total capacity), charging at up to 150 kW
  • AWD: 72.8 kWh battery (total capacity), charging at up to 100 kW

  • start: 0/1% SOC - right away at 86 kW
  • 6-8% SOC: 87 kW
  • 16% SOC: 88 kW (peak); after about 7 minutes
  • 50% SOC: 51 kW after 25 minutes
  • 80% SOC: 18 kW after 62 minutes
  • 90% SOC: 7 kW after 93 minutes
  • 94% SOC or more: 1 kW
  • end (99%): 264 minutes (4.4 hours)

It's one of the weakest of the new EVs.

This is the result of offering only 10% battery degradation over 10 years. They've made sacrifices on charging speeds etc. It's almost like Toyota is trying to sabotage EV's perhaps because they invested so heavily in hybrid and hydrogen.
