Tinting The Side Windows….

Because of our really hot and sunny weather here in Texas I have always had my side windows tinted. I have read by others that the door panels on the Air have to be loosened/removed to apply the tint. Is this necessary and can any tint shop do this? Do the door panels on the Air require any above normal skill to manipulate?

My guy told me he would have to open the door panels in order to do a proper installation of the tint. I opted to wait and see and didn't get it done as I'm really paranoid about incurring squeaks or rattles in the car which is presently very quiet.

Only problem I had was my tinted forgot to plug the window back in. Lucid service did it for me when my car went in for something else.

Interesting since my right rear window stopped working after I had my windows tinted. How difficult is it to plug in?

You have to pop the panel off...I would have it back to your tinter

I just read this. I hope better not squeaky for me. I’m getting my AGT from shop in 2-3 days for PPF and tint all windows. I miss my babe! I really can’t wait!

The only problem I have with tinted windows ( other than the possibility of getting a ticket here in NY) is at night you sometimes don’t see cross traffic until it’s on top of you. I had a few scares in my old Range Rover Evoque at roundabouts due to just a moderate tint.

Tinted side windows are a must here in Texas. Imagine driving for hours with 100F+ temperatures with the sun coming in at a angle into one particular side. The heat from the windows is more than just a nuisance but actually uncomfortable at 15-20 degrees warmer than the interior temperature. There are legal % tints that in no way keep one from seeing cross traffic. Many cars and trucks sold here already have factory tint automatically.

You are assuming I never drove in Texas. My first car was A used 71 VW bug when I lived on fort hood with my parents. Strangely it had AC that worked great! No tint however. My moms 1931 model A and the 1927 model T woody wagon I finished restoring down there did not have AC but both those cars allowed you to open the front windshield. Bugs in your teeth ventilation.

Climate change probably added 2~4 degrees more Fahrenheit in last 40 years. This is why having EV is privilege of reduce carbon footprint, this is what mass can all do down the road once scaling and mature of technology for wide adoption.

Yes, One of my hobbies since I was a teenage. I love working on old cars with just hand tools.

You have many of the same cars I have or had. I see a 27 T, a ~25 T , a 30 A ~ 57 Isetta 300 a -55 Messerschmitt and maybe a 55 Nash metropolitan. I still have the 31 A, a 59 Isetta 600 a 39 fiat topolino and a 2002 Z8

Pretty close. 1919 Touring, 1925 Coupe, 1931 Slant Windshield 4 Door Sedan, 1957 Nash Metropolitan, 1957 Messerschmitt KR200 and 1958 BMW Isetta 300. Plus my modern cars. I love to tinker though most have been total rebuilds. The only thing I do not do is pour my own Babbitt bearings. It will be odd not having much maintenance on the Air!

Agree, Tint is a must for those in south, take it from Floridian, it is more imperative for EV, as it reduces [at least in theory] inside temperature and AC use, saving precious little electrons and improving range

One thing that I thought was interesting for the price of the car was the fact the back windows weren’t tinted at all.
