Tesla Supercharger Updates?

Hello all!
I looked for any update on this topic and the latest I found was early this year. I thought I'd check to see if anyone knows if we can now charge at the Tesla stations? I've got a road trip coming up in a month and this would be great. Is there an adapter I can get now ahead of this? I'm sorry if any of this is redundant and thank you in advance!

Darn, I was hoping I'd have it for this summer road tripping, but that said, it was always going to be a back-up option until Tesla rolls out superchargers that can deliver more than 50kwh, or whatever the reduced speed is.

Yes, at this time the number of user that may use Tesla SC doe AIR may be very low. I am not looking for this anytime soon. The current network of DC fast charges has me no trouble when going on longer trips.

I use an EA station that is literally five minutes away from my house. When it went to an 85% cap, all of the backup went away, too. Sometimes I pull right in to a charger without any wait. Time-of-day still matters, but the situation is so much improved from two years ago. So even if a Lucid SC adapter was developed, I wouldn't use it, and not only because of he-who-shall-not-be named.

I received a free adapter from Genesis for our GV60. I'm wondering if that would be safe to use on my Lucid when visiting my son who has a level 2 Tesla charger installed at his house???

“State of Charge” did a video of why a car manufacturers adapter would not work with Level 2 Tesla chargers … basically, the adapter is for DC in and out while a level 2 charger is AC in to DC out.

So unless the Genesis adapter is a level 2 adapter, it will not work.

I believe it was intended so we could use the Tesla Superchargers so maybe you are correct that it won't work with a home charger. Better safe than sorry.

Not all adaptors are created equal. I think the Gravity one is the only or one of the very few that can deliver 400kW on the adaptor due to the high voltage the adaptor can handle. The Air would probably need a similar adaptor to achieve its 300kW charging speeds on the V4 chargers (when they become true 1000V chargers). Your GV60 adaptor may work but I don't know the max speed the adaptor can handle so you need to check that as it could be the limiting factor for the Air.

For charging from Level 2 NACS, look for a NACS to J1772 Adapter.

The upper, round portion on the CCS1 connector is identical to the J1772 connector. CCS1 adds the DCFC DC power pins.

Not quite correct. L2 charging is 240V AC to the car (208V in commercial installations due to 3-phase AC). The AC-DC conversion takes place in the on-board charger (The Wonderbox in the Lucid).

The reason you cannot use a NACS to CCS1 adapter for L2 charging is that the CCS1 standard only supplies DC power to the two lower big pins. The AC used with L2 are the large-ish pins in the upper round J1172 portion. NACS uses the same pins for both DC and AC. So NACS to CCS1 routes the NACS power pins to the DC CCS1 pins, while the NACS to J1772 routes them to the J1772 AC pins.

There are some adapters made by less reputable makers that route the NACS power pins to both AC and DC pins on CCS1...BUT THOSE ARE DANGEROUS.

Your GV60 adapter should work fine for the current V3 Tesla chargers, but I would not recommend it for the future 1000V V4 Superchargers unless it is actually rated for 1000V @ 500A.

The specifications for the A2Z Typhoon Pro would seam to handle the Gravity's charging - 500A and 100 - 1000V. UL2252 certification pending.

V4 has been a long time coming, and could be a long time still. Or not.
