From Apple regarding the new Carplay update:

"Drivers can now listen to Spatial Audio songs and albums available in Apple Music and third-party apps while connected to CarPlay. Vehicles with multichannel audio capabilities can enable an immersive sound experience. Spatial Audio with support for Dolby Atmos can also be implemented in compatible vehicles."

oohh tell me more. Dear Lucid, i want this!

I presume this is part of iOS 18 ?

That's great to hear! Fingers crossed that this works well with the Lucid SSP system.

I wonder if that means it'll also support lossless? Last I saw, wireless CarPlay did not support lossless Apple Music, but that's on the "old" systems

It’s in the iPhone settings but whether Lucid supports it is still unknown. @mcr16

yup. the app supporting, carplay supporting and lucid supporting it are three different things

There should be enough bandwidth to do it in the wireless interface between the car and the phone. and i'd say any recent iPhone should have the processing power to support it too.

Of course, the wireless connection the phone makes to the car has much higher bandwidth than the cellular connection Tidal is making to its servers.

This is not currently supported in the Air. I don't have additional information to share at this time, unfortunately.

Thanks for clarifying that. Fingers crossed it will be available in the future

If native Apple music is the goal, we dont have to worry about this 🙂

Yes we do. Even with a native Apple Music app, there's still a benefit to supporting lossless and Spatial Audio in the Air's system over CarPlay.

Always good to have options.

Could you please elaborate? I paid a lot of money for an Atmos system in this car and have been patiently waiting for this feature to be enabled within Apple Music in CarPlay. Since it is now available from an Apple perspective with the advent of iOS 18, the ball is now in Lucid’s court to get it working with this system that many of us have paid for - it has been absolutely useless up to this point and a complete waste of money.

I’m just trying to understand if it’s in the roadmap or if there is some technical issue that will prevent Lucid from ever implementing this feature in our cars.

“It is not available and no other information is available at this time” is not a satisfactory response. Can we expect this at some point in the future our not??? Is Lucid actively working on this???

I am very disappointed and beyond frustrated in Lucid’s lack of clear communication regarding Atmos support via Apple Music in CarPlay.

Apple literally just released this as a feature. @mcr16 did not say that the feature would never be supported by Lucid, but rather that it isn't currently supported (which we knew, and makes sense, since it's a new feature) and that there isn't any additional information to share at this time. It's definitely okay to ask for more information, or for when there might be more information.

But it isn't something to rage about quite yet; it's brand new.

Moreover, Atmos does work with Tidal and via a USB key, so it definitely has not been "absolutely useless up to this point." It just doesn't work with Apple Music... yet.

Sorry, but this is an unfair response. Atmos works beautifully with Tidal and that is the format that Lucid incorporated into the Air. Lucid is under no obligation to rush implementation of Atmos capability via CarPlay. If they do achieve it, it will be a bonus , but it is certainly not a priority at this time.

I love subjective commentary in the morning 😏

I recently saw some statistics reported on a couple independent Apple News sites that 38% of buyers of ICE cars consider CarPlay a must-have and 25% of EV buyers. Add to this Apple Music has a ~31% of the US market and Tidal has a 0.5% market share, Lucid should be communicating their Apple roadmap around this to existing and potential new customers. I don't expect a feature just released days ago to be available on day 1 in the Lucid, but I do want to hold Lucid's feet to the fire around their communication. Apple has announced Atmos available through CarPlay, 25% of EV buyers believe it's a deal-breaker and of course would expect Atmos through CarPlay to be available or at the very minimum some communication from Lucid that it will be available in a future software update.

Apple Music has over 33M subscribers in the US, Tidal has 721K. I understand before this announcement Tidal and USB were the only games in town, but that still begs the question given Apple Music's market share and the fact 25% of EV buyers consider things like this a deal-breaker, why Lucid didn't put a priority on a native Apple Music app like Mercedes and others. Their ROI on this would be huge.

To ask this 25% to run out and get a Tidal subscription just to listen to Atmos in this car and pay yet another monthly subscription is something most of the 33M Apple Music subscribers will be unwilling to do, including me. Keep in mind globally, Apple Music has around 100M subscribers. Lucid's priority from a sound system perspective should be on getting this going ASAP and communicating something to the masses while we wait.

Cool. Lucid has CarPlay.

This is a brand new feature, and Lucid has never claimed to support Apple Music.

That is not what your own statistic above said. 25% of EV buyers think CarPlay is a deal-breaker. Great; the Lucid has CarPlay.

Your assumptions about Atmos could not possibly have been true when that survey was undertaken because the feature didn’t exist in CarPlay.

You just answered your own question. “… before this announcement Tidal and USB were the only games in town…”

Tidal supported Atmos. Apple Music didn’t. Tidal built an app for the Lucid; it isn’t written by Lucid. Apple hasn’t built an app for Lucid.

USB is controlled by Lucid, so they built they too.

Nobody is asking you to run out and do that. You knew when you bought the car what was and wasn’t supported. Atmos literally was not an option through CarPlay until a few days ago.

Moreover, you can also use USB. No subscription fees necessary.

I hope Lucid adds Apple Music as an option, and supports Atmos natively. But outrage about this seems very misplaced.
