Software version 3.2.2

The thing is . . . it's not actually an OTA update. @Jackles found this under the 'keys" paragraph of the update notes:

“To ensure the highest level of security, part of this update requires a quick in-person service by a certified Lucid technician. This process is brief, complimentary, and can be completed at any Lucid Service Center.”

This would suggest even mobile techs can't do this, so I wonder what this means for those who don't live near Service Centers? Will Lucid transport the cars? Do owners have to get there on their own?
I wonder if it’s the ACS reset they had to do on my car. Regardless, I guess I am glad my car is still at the SC as I expect they’ll do whatever the manual part is while it’s there…

In a December 2024 interview Eric Bach, Lucid's chief engineer, said this about the Gravity:

"First off, you need a product that’s mature and durable and won’t result in endless warranty repairs once it starts going out to customers."

As a stockholder I'm even more worried about warranty costs with the Gravity than I am about repair hassles as an owner. I wonder how many Gravities Lucid is going to have to pay to transport for this software update -- or will distant owners just be told to wait for this update until they can get the cars to a Service Center themselves or until the car has to go in for some other repair? And, if the latter, will the cars accept subsequent OTA updates that are coming if 3.3.1 has not yet been installed?

I'm pretty sure the mobile techs will be able to handle the update out in the field without a physical trip to a service center.

But why wouldn't the release notes say as much? I know there are some software uploads that mobile techs cannot do, as the mobile tech who first checked out our Gravity navigation issues was not able to reload some of the modules and told me the car would have to go to a Service Center for that. Our car also has to have the software loaded for the new HUD unit, something that the Service Center could not do at the time of the replacement because the software was not yet available to them. I asked whether a mobile tech could do it once the software was made available, but they said the car had to go back to Miami for that.

Where were the release notes posted? I missed that…

My GGT coming to the SC this week shows 3.3.1 but, of course, I can’t see the release notes and they lead to a bum link, as always.

Thank you! Good stuff. Love Halo coming. Wonder if that means it will be able to record with USB “soon”. Live is great, but recording is more of a deterrent to me.

I don’t have a Gravity (still on order) but the release note says in-person service by lucid tech. I take that to mean mobile tech too.

The language in the release notes specifically say the update can be done "at any Lucid Service Center". There is nothing said about a mobile tech being able to do it.

I called Lucid Customer Care. They confirmed that mobile techs cannot do this update and that the cars have to go in to a Service Center.

As our car is at a Service Center now for further repairs, I'm going to check on Monday to be sure they will do the update while it's there.

Customer Care also told me that the 3.3.1 software is already available to the Service Centers, so if anyone else has a Gravity there for other work, be sure to confirm that they will do this update while the car's there.

When I talked to the techs the last time they were here, they basically told me almost everything can be done mobile unless it requires a specialized piece of equipment which he said basically boils down to needing a lift for the vehicle to do a major repair such as a battery/drive unit replacement or hardware for ADAS recalibration. Unless the fix involves something "major", my best guess is that it can be done by the mobile guys.

Well, as I posted above, I called Lucid Customer Care and was told the car does have to go to a Service Center for the 3.3.1 update, just as the release notes said. I asked specifically if a mobile tech could do it, and they said no.

Apologize for my ignorance.

I assume having a service center do a software install is unprecedented? What if that center is 200 miles away like mine would be if I had one - I doubt Lucid would drive down, give me a loaner, flatbed my car up, and return my car for a simple software upgrade. Maybe they would if it fixes a warrantied, fixable problem. Kind of strange to need the SC for software.

Having to take your car to a dealer for a software upgrade is business as usual for some German EVs (e. g., VW, Porsche, Audi). However, Lucid had thus far done most software changes over the air.

When I called Customer Care about this earlier today, he hesitated a bit when I asked if Lucid would handle transport to distant Service Centers. He said he thought they would have to, but he said the information they've been given about this just came over the transom yesterday and that some things are not yet clear.

My personal opinion is that Lucid will have a PR mess on its hands if owners have to drive their cars long distances for what is clearly a combination of warranty work (key fob issues) and the installation of features promised at sale (towing capability).

But I shudder to think what this is going to cost Lucid . . . another price they'll be paying for putting these cars in customers' hands prematurely.

Software Updates aren’t done at Service Centers, you do them yourself. This is rare where someone at Lucid must need to physically do something to the key that isn’t doable via an OTA.

Needing to have the car at a Service Center either to check out or to change out software has happened twice already with our Gravity and now for the third time. The first time was for diagnosing and reloading the software modules relating to our malfunctioning navigation system. It is currently waiting for a Service Center to install the software to run the replaced HUD unit, something else a mobile tech cannot do. And now it has to be at a Service Center for this 3.3.1 update for, I assume, the key fob issue (but that's not clear, as there are quite a few other software bugs many are experiencing).

I hope this is an anomaly that will soon fade away and not something inherent in the software architecture of the Gravity.

I texted service and didn't get a reply..what's the usual turn around for replies?

I have a list of things thY need to get addressed and now with the update I might as well bring it in. Wouldn't mind driving an air around for awhile too.

Well it’s not 5 minutes if that’s what you’re expecting, lol

Given it’s Saturday, I wouldn’t expect a response until Monday at the earliest.

My SA and I were texting today about other stuff and he mentioned that we can plug in to the glovebox usb and record when we get the update.

Specifically said when I asked about recording: Yep. It looks like the best thing to do would be to use a minimum of 128gb usb flash drive. The port is in the glove box!

It's my first time so I have no idea. I'll be patient.
