For those in So Cal / OC Area, looks like Rove has started construction on their first location that will have a Gelson's Market, 40 chargers, 24 hr lounge and touchless car wash. It's good to have more options! They plan on having 20 locations by 2026 (one won't be too far from me)

That's more like it.

They need to install them on the routes between SD and Sacramento / Bay Area, and between LA and Vegas. A couple of 40 charger stations on each of those routes would be perfect!

Technically Santa Ana is between SD and SD 🤣

But too close. That one is only necessary if you drive a Bolt 🤣

Need one at the base of the Grapevine and then one halfway between that and the Bay Area on the 5 and one halfway between the Grapevine and Sacramento on the 99.

Looks like the Santa Ana location will be opening Summer 24. Based on the 3D tour (rendered), it will look pretty nice. Hopefully, prices will be reasonable for those that need it and like traditional gas stations the real profit is made on the snacks!

Wow, one planned for Corona too!
They look nice, but hope they make enough from the car washes and convenience sales to make it worth their while.

Agreed. Charging a high energy fee would kill them IMHO. There's plenty of money to be made on snacks. And yes, I think Corona is planned next and is closer to me. The SA location is near my optometrist, I'll probably check it out when I go later in the year. Also, key for them is getting loaded into vehicle's navigation for charging locations so they appear in people's routes.

Officially opening on 10-15 ... price could be a "little" better seeing as they have solar and partial subsidy thru purchases in Gelson's mini-mart

  • 1008 17th St. (not far from I-5)
  • 40 chargers
  • 28 are V4 Superchargers (with built-in adapters). One of the first third-party Superchargers to open
  • 12 dedicated CCS chargers (2x 350kW chargers and 10x 184kW chargers, each with its own power, no shared power)
  • Each 184kW charger has two heads already, for different sides of the vehicle, but these could be replaced by 1 NACS and 1 CCS in the future.
  • 222kW solar canopy
  • 58¢/kWh paid through Rove app or credit card tap. On par with all other networks in the area. If fixed rate all day, cheaper than others during peak hours.
  • Small Gelson's market on-site
  • Car wash and dog park also on-site

We need a few more of these facilities where we need them most, between North Cal and SoCal.

Yes, it should help with the dearth of DCFC options in The OC. Next one will be off 91 on the way to Vegas and Palm Springs (not far from 15/91 interchange). Amazingly there is only one >150kw charger in my city of a population of almost 200K. And that EA station typically has one to two stalls (out of 4) down at all times!!

They are breaking ground on the Costa Mesa location next week. Also have Buena Park and a few others in the pipeline.

Good ... I thought that Corona was next, but could be wrong. Hopefully they will speed up deployment with NEVI funds and will be successful.

Quartzsite or Blythe would be nice. Business should be brisk at these 2 sites.

Next Lucid & Latte’s meetup? :p

Good idea. The one problem I see for Rove is that they are not integrated into EV trip planning in the vehicle navigation. Without this, they won’t be discovered by passersby on the freeways. Hopefully they will be integrated soon.

From the original OC Register article 9/19/2023

"McDonnell said Rove has secured land entitlements for the other five charging centers, although he can’t predict exactly when they’ll open...In some cases, we’re seeing 18 months from start to finish, depending on construction and finalization of the architectural drawings,” he said. “But in other cases that can take 24 to 30 months."

Don't know if their planning and timelines have changed in the last year but...

They need some between LA and SF/Sacramento on the 5 and 99. The current stations are always overwhelmed.

Agree. From a commercial standpoint, another at Quartzite (California/Nevada border) and another along the LA/Las Vegas route would seem to be winners
