My reservation for a Rivian R1T was 5xxx. Dec 2021 I received an email projecting a delivery window of June -July 2022. The Rivian guide reached out to me mid April to inform me that the Ocean Coast interior color choice will not be available until year end 2022. She suggested I go back and change the interior color choice using the configuration. I did, and to my surprise, two weeks later, I received notice that my car was in Orlando, going through final inspection. I began the "8 step paper process" the same day. The eight step process takes about 20 minutes to complete. It's all the typical insurance, registration, and payment paper work. I could have picked up the car at the Rivian service center in Orlando the same day but decided to have it delivered to the house. My wife is not thrilled with the black interior but for a truck it is a better choice and I don't have to wait another six plus months to get a light color interior. A family friend who placed an order a few days before I did, decided to stick with his original configuration. His original estimated window was March- April and now is 4Q 2022.

Sounds like Lucid Grey and silver, except for us Grey confirmations, we were never told that changing color could make our car get delivered faster (eventually silver reservation holders were told). They just kept saying, it’s on track to be delivered in the 2-4 month window.

Yeah. The person didn’t want to change their color choice and therefore “agreed” to wait longer.

I would have changed color if Lucid had communicated that to me. At this point, I am too far down the rabbit hole and will wait it out another quarter or two.

I reserved an R1S in February 2019 and was told I would receive a first contact from my "Rivian Guide" no later than last Thanksgiving. Haven't heard a word or received any response to two emails.

Interesting:

“Peter Rawlinson, CEO of luxury EV maker Lucid Group Inc and a former engineering executive at Tesla Inc, estimated Rivian spends around $22,000 on its entry-level battery pack, and around $20,000 on drive trains supplied by Robert Bosch GmbH - requiring a vehicle sticker price of $95,000 to return a profit.
"The only way they could ever make that business model work is if they lose money on every truck they sell," he told Reuters in March.”

I don’t see it as that that big a deal

Initial costs are always higher. Costs come down as your business grows, especially a startup. But they rarely ever drop the MSRP.

Saw my first Rivian today at Craft Detailing in Dedham, MA. The R1T is enormous and seems to be a ton of fun. The backseat was a lot smaller than I expected. My detailer said it's stupid quick off the line. When I asked about build quality, she said it's okay. Not nearly as good as Lucid but not as bad as Tesla.

Could you clarify the point about silver? I ordered silver, but could switch to grey if I had too....I'm Touring, so this is months off, but I'm curious what's going on with those two colors....THX

I’m in a similar boat but with the Max Pack. My wife decided she wanted to keep the ocean coast interior and biggest battery, so delivery isn’t until Q3/Q4 2023. Much as I’d like to go all EV sooner, it’s her car and we’re in no rush. Also means they’ll hopefully work out a lot more bugs between now and then.

Hopefully this means that they can finally start to build my R1S! Maybe Rivian will decide to finally dance with the ones who brought her to the ball, the early orders and adopters. In fairness, I’ll also dump Rivian if the Gravity wins on spec and is comparable in price.
