Does anyone know around what state of charge regenerative braking kicks in after charging to 100%? I want to do a little test but I rely so heavily on regenerative braking that I don’t want to use the brake pedal too late and crash because I was expecting to have one pedal driving.

I was told it comes back gradually but officially it is 80%. I felt mine came back closer to 90, but I hated driving without the regen, so I haven't tested charging above 80 again.

In my 2016 Model S:
265 miles is max range
260 miles is about when regen begins a little bit
245-250 is when it seems to be be at full level

I don't know if the Air will be similar, but it is probably an interesting comparison point at least.

Oh wow, so that’s like more than 50+miles without strong regen. I’ve charged as high as 89% and it still did regen for me but didn’t want to push it further for fear of not having one pedal driving. I just wanted to try and charge to 100% one time and see how many miles I could get while absolutely ignoring any eco driving techniques and just drive like I always do, which isn’t super aggressive but definitely not slow either.

I have charged to 95% and still had normal regeneration in high regen mode.

I'd like to find that number too because you have to pay so much more attention to how you drive. I could feel the regen after about 15 miles, but it didn't feel as strong to me. After that it felt kind of off and on, though I was go up and down big hills, so perhaps it was getting back too much. Maybe I'll try charging to 90% next time to see.

Based off my most recent 100% charge, I felt it come back at around 97%, not fully like @GEWC But by 95% it wad back to full for me

I only have one experience charging to 100%. I would say hard regen came back maybe after 5 or 10 miles? It definitely wasn't 50.

I answered my own question. Charged to 99% on my home charger and had full strong regen immediately, or else it was doing brake blending so damn well I couldn’t tell the difference? Pretty impressive.

The acid test would be to peak the charge at the top of a long hill and try the regen on the way down. Tejon Pass down to Grapevine in California would be a good case to try this.

Heading north the downhill portion regenned 1% of SOC...traveling 85 lol

That seems rather low. I've gotten 1% back just on the hills around here.
Hmm I was pretty happy with it, took me from 2.7 mi/kwh to 3.1. Was probably close to 2% but didn't tick over yet. No idea really, I don't get to drive hills that often around the concrete jungle of LA

I had an interesting issue today. Doing a road trip tomorrow so charged the car to 100% for the first time. Just ducked out to grab some groceries and expected regen not to work due to the car being fully charged. Surprisingly, I had regen but it was intermittent. Sometimes I’d have it and other times I wouldn’t and had to use the brakes. Has this happened to anyone or common? I’d rather it be fully on or off, not picking and choosing when to work or not.

Yeah, this happened to me, but it wasn't intermittant until after 10 miles or so.

I charged to 99% and had full regen like normal. I guess don’t charge to 100%?

Response from Lucid…..

“When the car is charged to 100%, then driven a short distance a small amount of battery energy is used. Regenerative braking can restore the amount of energy used. Once the batteries reach 100% of charge, regenerative braking is designed to be disabled as the energy created doesn’t have a storage location as the batteries are fully charged. When the car is driven a longer distance and more energy is used than regenerative braking energy is enabled as the recharging of the batteries is possible.”

Makes sense.

Moral of story: set your charge limit to 99% when preparing for a long trip. Save yourself the extra 20 min it takes to go from 99% to 100% and always have reliable regen 😎
