A friend of mine is disappointed in the range of the Air GT vs his Model S Plaid. He says his range in Plaid (Plaid mode) is better than the range in GT (Sprint mode). Any comments/ insight on this as i have never owned a Plaid. What is the range of both at 100% in each mode? Anyone knows. I can not find the answer online.

Unless he does an actual range test with both, either display of range at 100% is meaningless.

That's not something that is officially rated. It's also kind of a silly thing to worry about. If you want range, don't put it in the mode that actively depletes your range. Sprint mode actively conditions the battery for peak output. Sprint gives more than enough range for the average track session, and Swift gives more than enough power for the average long distance drive without actively eating your battery power.

We just sold our 2021 Model S Plaid and have owned an Air Dream Performance since late 2021, both on the 21" wheels and summer tires. We did several semi-controlled range comparisons in both cars. We marked distance with highway markers and drove 50 miles in each direction on Interstate 75 through the Everglades (AKA Alligator Alley), a flat, straight, lightly traveled interstate. The weather was always dry and warn (in the 80's), and the A/C and audio system were running in each car. The cruise controls were set to 82 mph (a true 80 mph in both cars, according to our radar system readouts).

The Air got 77-78% of it rated range; the Plaid got 72-73% of its rated mileage. Given that the Plaid rated range was 348 miles and the Air's is 451, that means we get an additional 100 or so miles from the Air on a 100% charge in real-world highway driving.

BTW, the Plaid's rated range under the new EPA test protocols on the 21" wheels has dropped from 348 to 312 miles.

My Plaid on 19s is rated for 396 miles. If I drive like a normal person I get around 320. If I drive like I drive, I get around 250-275. I’m happy at 300 as I need to stop way more often than the car anyway.

We have come a long way in a short time.

( full disclosure: I bought an AIR GT w/19's for "range" ... then immediately bought a set of summer 21's. fuck the environment)

your friend sounds like the type who will brag about whatever stuff you don’t have. So in this case, just tell him yes, plaid is better, you win.
Exactly lol!!!
