Programming Homelink on a Gravity

The instructions for programming Homelink on your Gravity contain an error.

Here is what comes up on the screen in your car when trying to program Homelink:

Note that it instructs you to hold your remote under the driver-side headlight. In fact, you have to hold your remote under the passenger-side headlight. I found this out today when the mobile tech came today after I had been unable to get Homelink programmed by following these instructions. I was sitting in the car when he went straight to the passenger side with the remote. I showed him what was on the screen in the car, and he said he had never seen that. He is going to let Lucid know.

Oddly enough, I was able to get the horn to sound and the headlights to flash by holding the remote in the location illustrated, but the programming would not take. Although I tried several times by moving the remote around that area, it did not occur to me to try the other side of the car.

Hmm I have done this twice now and both times, it worked on the driver-side in a couple of attempts. Just have to hold it very close to the car. Maybe receiver on both sides?

I assume I was holding it close enough, as the horn honked and the headlights flashed. So the car was definitely reading the presence of the remote. But it just wasn't loading the programming into Homelink.

The mobile tech walked straight to the passenger side, and the horn honked, the lights flashed, and Homelink responded almost instantly.

He said they had been trained to do it from the passenger side, which is why he had never noticed the illustration on the screen. If there were a receiver on both sides, I don't know why he wouldn't have been told during training.

The more I learn about the Gravity, the more I learn there is absolutely nothing straightforward about anything with it.

Same here, have been unsuccessful in programming Homelink - will try the passenger side when I get Gravity back next week.

Weird. It took me a couple tries but worked fine from the driver side. Might’ve just accidentally caught the other side!

Recently I did a Factory Reset, lost Homelink program and could not get it back at all, moving the remote all around the driver side area.
Just now tried at the passenger side and it worked instantly.

The mobile tech said he was going to notify Lucid of the error in the instructions on the screen. It'll be interesting to see when (or if) they correct it.

Meantime, I wonder how many service calls will be tied up with people trying to figure out what's wrong with their Homelink programming?

I can confirm with my own two eyes after watching the homelink unit get installed in my Gravity that the circled spot in the above picture is EXACTLY where the unit is behind the bumper on the DRIVER'S side. I can also confirm that the signal from a remote is strong enough that it doesn't matter where it is near the bumper for it to get recognized by the system.

Then I can confirm that the location varies from vehicle to vehicle. Not only could I and other posters here not get the programming to work on the driver side, my mobile tech told me the unit was on the passenger side in both our Gravities. (He programmed the Homelink in our first Gravity, too.)

Mine worked very well from the Driver's side but you do have to hold it closer to the car than you would expect.

It worked for me on the driver's side. However, after a couple of failures, what got it work was a new set of batteries in the garage remote. Maybe give that a shot, in addition to trying both sides.

Maybe Lucid should update the graphic to point to the center of the front bumper since some are installed on the driver or passenger side

Thanks for these tips - I couldn’t get HomeLink to work but then you all got me to follow the directions more closely and voila: driver’s side on the first try.

I am not sure where I read this but somewhere I found to hold it under the L from Lucid. I tried it multiple times at the location in the picture and nothing, also not on the passenger side. Held it unte the L from Lucid and honked and done ...

Mine is a pretty new MyQ gate/garage opener installed 2 years ago. Nothing worked for me except holding it under the L, so good luck

Just got my Gravity back after getting Homelink installed. Holding under the L is the only location that worked for me too.

Has anyone set more than 3 programmable homelink connections?
Ask Lucid customer service, they dont know.
Apparently it is 15, but I can't even get my garage to work as of yet!

The only “range” problem I’m having with my otherwise phenomenal 4 week-old Lucid Gravity is Homelink range. To get the opener to work, I’ve got to set the car DIRECTLY in front of the garage door, within about 10’. You can imagine what a challenge this poses to those of us who normally back into the garage. Maybe the car’s transmitter is in a weird position. I’ve never had this kind of “range” problem with any other car, and there have been quite a few. Is it just me and this car??
