No joke. My car has been in service for months, and three times now for door handles.

As you know, you press the door handles to wake the car up. This quit working for me a few updates ago. Lucid can’t seem to fix it.

Today I get this from service; and I quote “pressing the exterior door handles is not a standard operating procedure” “though it may work”

I pointed out that page 24 of the owners manual literally says "NOTE: The vehicle wake-up
function is available on the front
door handle when pressed. "

But now Lucid says that’s not standard operating procedure. I know a lot of us use that feature so I guess, don’t?

I press the door handles frequently to wake up the car. I do that perhaps 25% of the time the car doesn't present the door handles when I approach carrying both the fob and my phone.

There is even a setting for the car to enable this(for all 4 door handles) as the default mode to use to wake the car for usage with the mobile key and fob...

Yes. I cited version 35 of the manual. It appears the technician cited version 1.0xxxx when he denied a problem existed.

Now it’s going to have to be processed back into service since they have agreed it actually is “standard operating procedure”.

I've always done it that way. Now today, car unlocked, it would not open when I pressed the door handles (I tried all four). Since the fob battery was dead, I placed the fob on the b-pillar and tried all four doors again. No dice. Had to go inside and change fob battery. Again none of he doors worked. Opened by double pressing fob.
For two years I've been able to open the unlocked car. Now I can't. Only difference is I updated software last week to 2.9.0.

I just got mine back... just glad to have it back... But I have been pressing the crap out of the loaner door to wake it because the battery on the loaner key was almost dead!

Yeah mine worked just fine until about March. Then the press to wake only worked on the passenger side, so they replaced all my door handles then none of them worked. That’s when they said it “may have worked” and well you see above. Now they’re back to the drawing board. 🤷

Sounds like a mistake was made.

Let me ask a few questions out of ignorance:

> it appears that pushing on the OUTSIDE (front) door handle is a legitimate way to unlock the doors, correct?
> I am not familiar with how the mechanical door handle works on the Gravity.
> In the Air, the INSIDE door handle has a "sliding knob" mechanism that, when pulled. MECHANICALLY unlocks the door, correct? This has been documented as a safety feature that is not under SW or electrical control. It can be used MECHANICALLY to open the door (from the inside, or through a broken window). This feature is used by fire-and rescue to access the interior of the car and to free trapped passengers.
> Now, is "pushing on the recessed OUTSIDE door handle" mechanical or electrical? I think it is NOT MECHANICAL", correct? If so, does pushing on the outside handle send an electrical signal (bypassing or in conjunction with the computer) to unlock the door?

Correct, it is not mechanical. And yes, it sends an “electrical signal” to wake up, look for a key, and unlock the doors.

If already unlocked, it functions to lock the doors. But still: not mechanical.

I am amazed that you and I actually agreed on something about the Lucid! ;)

Now, let's go down another level:

> when you push on the outside door lever, does it send an ELECTRICAL SIGNAL that ACTUATES the MECHANICAL locking system?
OR
> when you push on the outside door lever, does it send AN ELECTRICAL SIGNAL TO THE COMPUTER to unlock?

The car still needs authorization to unlock though, with either fob or cardkey or app. Just pressing in the door handle without authorization won't unlock it (and shouldn't, otherwise anyone could just walk up and do it). If authorization is detected and the door handles aren't already out (like when using the app), then pressing the handle will make it present. But presumably not without unlock authorization having occurred.

I assume the real problem here is fob authorization not happening (at least on a timely basis, like mine that commonly takes 5-10 seconds, sometimes more). Same old fob issues.

As I mentioned in another thread, most of the time I just end up with smooshed in door handles and have to wake the phone in my pocket to have them pop out and unlock. With non fob use it rarely works for me. If that’s the only reason your car is in service I’d say forget about it and get your car back.

It’s supposed to wake the car

It’s supposed to wake the car
Yes, but does that actually mean anything for unlocking the door? Do we think that's the reason that the fob is often slow and unresponsive to unlock the doors?

I'm guessing the fob issue is caused by something else, since I often experience the slow unlock time even when the car hasn't been locked long enough to go into a deep sleep.

Fob works fine for me, always has!

Interesting. It’s slick when it works, i preferred it to the weird Tesla teeter totter handles.

If the car is unlocked, pressing the handle will wake the car, present the handle and allow you to open the door. No fob or phone needed.
At least it did on mine (2023 Pure AWD) until today. Now pressing the handle does nothing (all four doors). Even with a fob with fresh batteries. Without the phone I need to double click the fob to get in.

Maybe this is a design change then? Or bug.

The most current manual revision lists it as a feature but the old one did not.
