OTA 2.8.16

I appreciate the incremental OTAs and my AGT is a delight, but note that my curb rash assist function is inoperative well over half the time even in dry weather with a clean car. While I do not depend on it is nice when it works. Same with the overhead view which works about 95+% of the time but fails as do the rear view cameras on rare occasions. A restart corrects the malfunction(s), but it is annoying when on the highway the rear view cameras fail. I trust that the engineers have statistics on such failure episodes and will correct them in future OTAs. Can anyone confirm that such systems are monitored? Statistically significant failures across the fleet require attention but what are the statistics?

So, I drove my car to work yesterday, my first extended drive since installing 2.8.16.

The first 50 or so miles went fine. And then the dreaded happened. The Lucid software gremlins struck again. All Driver Assist and audio entertainment functions suddenly just died. The auto steer and adaptive cruise control kicked off, my stereo went silent, and CarPlay just disappeared.

It just took a reengagement to restore all driver assist functions. Unfortunately for me for the next 70 miles of my drive, I couldn’t get any of my audio to work. I’d get silence or much more irritatingly, quarter-seconds of audio, followed by a few seconds of silence, over and over, and over again. Worse than that, my family must have started up our Tesla Model X to go shopping. I could tell that because the only audio feature I could get while driving my Lucid, was Spotify.

Choosing Tidal, my USB drive, or anything else would result in the system just reverting to Spotify. Not only that, I couldn’t even listen to what I wanted on Spotify. If I got to listen to anything at all, I got to listen to chopped up snippets of country music, the genre of music that my twenty-something nephew loves so much. It had to have been him driving our Model X, listening to his choice of music on Spotify, over 50 miles away.

Lastly, my phone got booted off CarPlay, and I did never get it back. Even after repeated attempts I couldn’t get my Lucid to reestablish CarPlay with my phone.

I drove the remaining 70 miles of my drive to Ontario CA in silence.

Yes, I did a steering wheel reset before setting off from my home in San Diego County, and no, I won’t be able to do another reset, or check if the gremlins have gone, until I return to my car two days from now.

This latest software update has been one of the most troublesome. A truly vexing first world problem. At the very least, maddeningly inconvenient. Some folks from the Gravity software development division must have migrated over to the Air.

Just got back from a Thanksgiving trip from SF to LA on 2.8.16, and it was by far the most glitchy and honestly dangerous drive I've had in nearly three years of owning my Air.

The positives:
1. I arrived home safely.

The negatives:
1. For the first 45 minutes of the drive, HFDA worked for the most part. Just the occasional eye tracking glitches and grab-the-wheel moments, maybe once every 10 minutes or so.
2. After stopping at Kettleman City to charge at EA, within minutes of getting back on the freeway I started getting side-camera errors on both left and right. These happened very frequently, like every 15-30s.
3. About five minutes after leaving Kettleman, I got the "grab the wheel" message which didn't dismiss regardless of how hard I grabbed the wheel, how much I opened my eyes in front of the sensor, and no matter how hard I accelerated or braked. This escalated to a "car is shutting down" message and the hazards started blinking and the dash alarm went off. I finally had to slam on the brakes (surrounded by tractor trailers at night, not fun as one behind me honked loudly) to get control of the car back, and it took a good minute for the hazard light button to respond and actually turn off the hazards. I immediately exited and tried multiple resets, talked to Roadside assistance, and was finally able to get control of the car again but now no cruise control would work at all. It would engage and accept target speed and everything, but it simply wouldn't work. I drove the rest of the way manually. My wife and kids were beyond freaked out. When I got to my destination and charged and was able to fully reset the car, HFDA did seem to work again but I didn't want to risk it in my days there, and we ended up using Ubers for most of our local travel as my family didn't want to get back in the Air.
4. We had to drive the car back, so on the return trip yesterday, I again attempted HFDA and it again worked for about 45 minutes until we got to Valencia. We started getting frequent "grab the wheel HFDA is not available in this area" messages all along the freeway from Valencia to the Santa Clara exits. It would say not available, I'd grab the wheel, and it'd be fine for about a minute or two before glitching with the "not available in this area" message.
5. HFDA twice veered abruptly toward the median and I had to wrestle the wheel for control and keep from crashing. I turned it off.
6. Stuck in holiday traffic, I tried HFDA again just to keep pace in the stop-and-go, and for a while HFDA settled down and it seemed to be working. Sadly, at one point it suddenly accelerated at a white Mercedes in front of me. I had to slam on the brakes to get the car to stop and avoid a rear-end collision. This was again dangerous and I again disabled HFDA.
7. Just past the Grapevine we stopped at a Starbucks. Upon getting back in the car, I thought I'd give HFDA a chance on an open stretch of road, and it refused to work entirely. Only option was regular Drive Assist, but at this point I had had enough and drove manually.
8. After charging at Kettleman City again, we started getting frequent side-camera-errors all over again. These would happen every few minutes.

I talked with Lucid service in Costa Mesa but they didn't have time to see me in the week I was down, and so I just had to risk it for the drive back.

I really, really want to downgrade this update.

I've been away from my AGT (in Sarasota, FL) for an extended time and after reading many of these posts, "can't wait" to see what 2.8.16 has done to it (shudder...)!

Get your shit together Lucid come on. That’s actually dangerous.

My experience has been similar. Def quite dangerous.

A few things:
1) does curb rash alert ever fail in the daytime? it won't work at night or in the dark.
2) if your cameras are going out regularly, your car has an issue. mine have not failed in over a year.

@LucidDropkick had camera issues too, and service is able to correct it; his were going out like every other time.

regenerative braking suddenly doesn't work so well which caught me off guard a few times adjusting to it (no, it's not a full battery and I did check the setting = high)
easy entry only works half the time.
mobile key is also mostly unpredictable = never was before. Going back to the fob.
still no way to permanently delete HA = "I'm playing with my phone" mode.

Things I'd like to have:
Space Laser Deer Vaporizer.

or a pair of 50 calibers mounted on the hood.

The deer around here are everywhere now, strolling out onto the highway at night. There are 4 vehicle-hit deer carcasses within 1/2 mile of my house. All happened this week.
Even a Rhino package for the Air would be nice.

Also, rain sensing wipers are no good now. Have to do this manually. Wish I'd stopped updates last year when everything was perfect. Is there a way to roll back updates ??

I’m also noticing a change in the regenerative braking. It’s weaker now especially as the car is about the come to a halt and appears to not want to do so forcing the use of the friction brakes. I’ve rarely ever used the friction brakes and now feel like I use them every drive.

I'm assuming the change in regenerative braking was one of the changes inplemented to improve fuel economy. At very low speeds its likely that more energy is used than was recovered.

Received it at noon, the software Took 17 minutes to install (I have CCCv2). Fans went crazy LOUD speakers on me and People were staring at me as if my car was about to explode.
Went on a trip from the Redwood City CA to San Jose CA.

GOD or ROBUSTNESS is helping me now; the efficiency on my G.T.P. is WAY more realistic with EPA with a mixture of highway and city driving now! Look at those Robust Efficiency Numbers!

Extra FWIW : My scientific suspension butt-o-meter feels way more soft and relaxed now. I am not feeling a jarring impact over every uneven pavement undulation.

Strangely enough, my GTP numbers pre update were 3.6, and are now back down to 3.18....

Something broke in this update

What l would like to know is how robust, on a scale of one to 10, people consider this, using the International Scale of Robustness

⚖️ Spectrum of Robustness (Least → Most)

1. Soap bubble
- Delicate, fleeting, collapses at the slightest touch.

2. Paper napkin
- Functional but easily torn, dissolved, or crumpled.

3. Smartphone screen
- Useful but vulnerable to drops, scratches, and obsolescence.

4. Clay pot
- Stronger than paper, but brittle under impact.

5. Wooden chair
- Solid, practical, but can wear down or break under stress.

6. Steel wrench
- Durable, reliable, resistant to wear, but can corrode over decades.

7. Oak tree
- Living robustness: flexible in storms, enduring across centuries.

8. Concrete bridge
- Engineered resilience, able to bear immense loads for decades.

9. Internet protocols (TCP/IP)
- Conceptual robustness: still functioning globally after decades, adapting to scale.

10. Earth’s biosphere
- The ultimate robust system: self-regulating, adaptive, and enduring across billions of years.

Wow! I have 2.8.5 and never received 2.8.7 or 2.8.9 or 2.8.16. This morning I got the notice that 2.8.9 is now available and will take one hour and 50 minutes. I guess after I install that they immediately will want me to install 2.8.16. Not sure what I should do. Seems like these last three updates have been problematic. Maybe it’s better to stay with 2.8.5.

2.8.9 for me was magic. Extremely stable. Never once had an issue with HFDA activating. Proximity key was best it had been in 3+ years of ownership. Efficiency climbed to 3.6 after lifetime of 3.2.

And then Lucid fucked it up with getting in their own way again and again and again

I’m not sure it’s intentional I suspect there is a talent or manpower issue in their software team.

Piling on the list of problems with the latest robustness update:

I never had an issue with delayed profile loading (this has been reported by many owners), until after the update.

Now, I get into the car, and sit for up to 30 seconds before the profile is loaded in the pilot panel. This effectively renders the car non-driveable until things come online.

I don’t understand why people are obsessed with highway drive assist. I would never trust any drive assist system …at least won’t for the next decade at least. No one is close to developing a system which feels safe enough for customer owned vehicles. What’s wrong with just driving normally?

I'm the same way and have some background in electrical and control systems...I recommend the same thing for everyone who is willing to listen to me...do not ever depend 100% on these systems ...we will not get there at least for another decade or so... Whenever I do engage these systems, I watch them like a hawk..
