Now that we’re “out,” I figured I would spend a few minutes giving you my driving impressions too. @TribbleTrouble is a spectacular driver, and in some ways a much better one than me (“…crap, was that the turn?”), but in terms of handling, cornering, performance at speed, etc… that’s more my jam than hers.

The Gravity drives almost exactly like the Air; it is planted, it *never* gives up the goose, unless I explicitly ask it to, it just chucks into turns, and it has a better turning radius than my Air. It’s kind of absurd. Honestly, and without exaggeration, it is the best SUV I have ever driven.

Annie has much more experience driving SUVs than I do, but I’ve driven plenty; just never owned one. My parents have owned Lexus SUVs since I was a teen, and I’ve driven a lot of the Sorento, and I’ve driven plenty of rented SUVs across the country.

I hate driving SUVs. They feel big, they *feel* prone to rolling (not all of them), and they handle like they are on a locking differential at all times. It’s just unpleasant, even in the “comfortable” SUVs. My biggest issue is feedback; the Porsche is the only other SUV I’ve ever driven that feels *good* in terms of handling, cornering, and steering response / feedback. I haven’t driving the Lamborghini Urus or whatever it’s called, so I can’t compare it to that.

But where the Gravity shines is just the way it *does not feel like a big car*. It boggles my mind that it handles like it’s smaller than the Porsche; hell, it handles like its smaller than the Air, despite being the bigger car. @TribbleTrouble, if you asked her honest opinion, prefers it, I think, to my Air.

I love it, and would happily drive it on any day, which I’ve never said for any SUV.

But, given the choice in the morning between the two, I still find myself picking the Air. Why? Honestly, I think because it’s the DE. You know how I can tell the difference between the DE and the GT loaners I’ve had? I can tell the difference between the Gravity GT and my Air DE too.

The throttle response on my DE is just a little more engaging, and just a little more aggressive, just like over the Air GT.

What this really means is my opinion may change when our Gravity DE shows up.

But if @TribbleTrouble decides to take the Air in the morning, or if I need to drive a bunch of things or people? It’s like a 51%/49% preference; so minor it almost doesn’t matter.

The Gravity GT absolutely sends. Don’t take this to imply it doesn’t. That would be like me calling the Air GT a “slow car” lol.

But man, it still gets me every time I drive it and it feels like it is just not that big a car, and then I look in the rear view mirror and realize there are 6 people and a dog behind me. Just absolutely insane.

Fair warning: if you drive CA-17 in Swift with anyone in the back, you’ll be asked to calm down and switch it into Smooth within ten minutes or so because this was a road trip, not a rollercoaster, Borski. 😈

One thing that is telling? Our Ioniq 5 has sat untouched for about 4 months. We even let a friend borrow it for like a month while she waited for her own car to get fixed, haha.

Neither of us seems to have any desire whatsoever to go back to the Ioniq 5.

I don’t know what that says, but surely it says something.

Yup! I would 💯% choose my spaceship…. I mean the Gravity, every time! ☺️

Thoughts on dream drive pro and also the HUD?
Haven’t tried either. For various reasons, neither Annie nor I have actually used either DDP or the HUD; mostly, we just love driving the damn thing. There are a number of things in our version of software that are “under the hood” but inaccessible; the HUD is one of them. I do know @outofspeckyle is testing a lot of stuff though, as are others.

Also, I don’t want to scoop or get ahead of any media things if they have stuff planned; I don’t have much useful to say on either DDP or HUD, so I’d rather let someone who has actual experience with it answer whenever they release the embargo. I suspect that embargo may actually be one of the reasons the HUD is turned off. I have no idea.

In any case, so that it doesn’t seem avoidant: we don’t have much to say about DDP or the HUD, at least not yet. :)

Great feedback on the Gravity - sounds like a great driver. I have a Gravity on order, but now having the Air I am reconsidering it. I don't have younger kids, and use wifey's SUV thing for the dogs and hauling/road trips (excuse to keep them out of my car). I've had big ol suv's in the past (explorer, expedition, enclave, MDX) but I think I'm a sedan driver at heart. The upright seating position thing is nice and the view, but frankly everything is an suv these days and unless you have the tallest one that doesn't seem to matter any more. I guess I just like to be low and laid back, and I also just feel more nimble and darty in a fast sedan.

Hold up, what? I literally just found out she was your wife… guess I’m out of the loop!

You'll like the seating position in the Gravity. You still feel like you're sitting low, and the steering wheel is also low, which takes about six seconds to get used to, but then you have a ridiculously fantastic field of view due to the open windshield and no steering wheel in the way.

It's hard to explain, but I strongly recommend sitting in one sometime; you'll see what I mean once you adjust the wheel and seat to your liking. It feels like a sedan seat in the front, position-wise, but you get the view of the upright seating position. Gosh, I really haven't tried to describe it before and that sounds confusing as hell haha. I guess it may just be one of those "go sit in one" things

Have you seen a brake light/braking indicator?
I think I saw a green indicator light (to the right of the speedometer) come on when the Lucid employee was doing a test drive during the NYC event.

low wheel/squircle will not be an issue for me- had an aftermarket yoke in my M3P with a river display - loved it. Looking forward to test driving when when it hits the Chicago studio. I do also like that it looks like the suspension can be dropped a good bit - makes it look kind of cool.

Thanks @TribbleTrouble and @borski for sharing your thoughts on the Gravity.
One question I thought about last night while reading the other thread; does the middle row slide further to the back if there’s no one sitting in the third row or if the third row is folded?

@borski Is either your DE or the Gravity the type of car that would get you out of bed early on a Sunday morning to go for a drive? If so what type of roads? And what other cars are in that class for you, if any?

Thanks @TribbleTrouble and @borski for sharing your thoughts on the Gravity.

The second row doesn’t go any further back whether the third row is folded or not, but it goes plenty far back 🤷‍♂️

The middle row does slide back. How much? You'd have to ask @borski
