No more Model S/X production

We eagerly await

Tesla's announcement to pivot into new verticals →> private copters, lighter personal jetpacks and Iron Man suits.
The S plaid is the pinnacle of 140 years of automotive development.
Seriously, the decision to stop selling the model SNX makes about as much sense as lucid choosing to do a 1/10 stock reversal. We now have a stock currently worth about ONE DOLLAR.

Meanwhile, TSLA is up nearly $20 today

It seems you can no longer use fundamentals as the basis for price movement - market pricing is now driven by supply and demand that is influenced by emotion. It's a new world...

until it's not.

That's not new, TSLA has always been a meme stock.
But the pricing is no longer limited to meme stocks, unless you consider the Mag 7 meme stocks. Meme stocks are stocks with pricing affected by social media - I don't think you can apply that term to Mag 7 or TSLA, which are have significant institutional ownership.

Mag 7 p/e averages about 27 - NVDA is 60! THAT is demand exceeding supply, not fundamentals...

Oh, please. I've owned two Teslas: a 2015 Model S P90D and a 2021 Model S Plaid.

If the Plaid is the pinnacle of automotive development, it's a depressing automotive landscape indeed.

Our Plaid was squeaking and groaning by the time it hit 10,000 miles. The front end came loose under even moderately aggressive acceleration. It was under-braked. The yoke and the ridiculous turn signal buttons were an ergonomic mess even before the covering started peeling off the yoke. The car was delivered with more fit and finish issues than our early-production Lucid Air. The Air interior quality and space utilization were giant strides ahead of the Model S.

In fact, our 2015 Model S was better built, handled better, and had considerably better user ergonomics.

That being said I have been looking up lots of data on the number of taxi rides and ride hailer vehicles out there in big metro areas, and the market is far smaller than the stock would have you believe. Other than their argument that everyone wants to have a personal pod to commute in and majority of miles are under 2 passenger.
Yes. At least in the US, a huge proportion of folks want their own personal vehicle, or two or three or more. I am a one car family but even though I believe in saving the environment (and drive an electric car) I would find it hard to completely give up my vehicle and I live where there is a vibrant Uber and Waymo business.

No stock strictly follows fundamentals. If they did investing would be easy. They are oversold on bad news, over bought on good news. Herd mentality drives markets and stocks up as well as down. Investing is part financial analysis, part psychology and part luck. No one can master all three.

The point was upon its release in 2012 the S was a pinnacle type vehicle move in the automotive industry. From that that POINT up until the plaid in 2020 . Certainly, you would agree on that analogy.
Of course there’s been advancements since then and newer/ better vehicles. . Doesn’t take away from the fact that it is what it was. Just reality.

the trick is to not be the one holding the bag when it tanks

Keep in mind that up $13.84 today follows closing down $14.90 yesterday. I track TSLA daily. Got a lot riding on it.

……. Don’t see that happening in the foreseeable future… But then again anything is possible with changes in the economy

i’ve owned it for last 13 years ( haven’t sold a share) if you’ve been in it for a while, you know it’s not always an easy hold lol.
i’ve been in and out of lucid about eight times made a SOLID move when it was a spac.
Part of my retirement job
Got back in when it dropped down near $1.50

I agree with your description of the small, urban and inexpensive models meant for the domestic Chinese market. Those won't be sold here because there is little market for that kind of thing and they probably wouldn't pass our safety requirements.

Auto open and close doors. Cool box. Screen that swivels. You just described products available from Cadillac and Tesla in the US today.

Finally, the engineering. Giga castings, CAD, robotics manufacturing - they are not only used outside of China. Lotus, Volvo/Polestar, the Buick Envision and Envista - they are all made in China. To generalize that Chinese products are inferior in design and execution would sound just like my dad (an automotive engineer) who picked on Honda and Toyota in the 70s. Look how that turned out...

I don't think this is a political issue - this is a capitalism issue. China has figured out how some capitalistic ideas can actually move an economy forward - and they are implementing. We can't complain, we have to compete. It has worked for 250 years, let's not change now!
this guy gets it. Here in the West companies are too focused on quarterly short-term profits and stock prices and buybacks. Then act all surprised when companies that think years (even decades) in advance start running circles around them

Tactics (quarterly performance) is critical for winning battles, but strategy (long term planning) wins wars. Ignore either at your peril.

Elon is shifting strategy in a big way. Only time will tell if it’s a brilliant and bold move or a foolhardy pivot.

I think the point is stronger when talking about the original Model S. But you wrote, "The S plaid is the pinnacle of 140 years of automotive development."

I think Tesla just dropped a third motor into a chassis that wasn't up to it, trying to mask several years of languishing development of the Model S.

Our first Model S was the car that made me an EV addict, one we kept and enjoyed for six years (an unusually long time for me to keep a car), and one that gave us the confidence in the brand to get the Plaid. Once in hand, the Plaid was the start of turning us completely off to the brand. And when our Air Dream Edition arrived four months after our Plaid, it was game over for us with Tesla.
