New IOS Mobile App 2.0

If you read the new app update’s release notes, Lucid did mentioned it will “Requires compatible vehicle software” for it work. Meaning a new software update for the car in the future should enable that feature for the mobile app.
Whoops. Missed that. I guessed as much but thanks.

OK, I hate sounding really dumb, but how did you all get the update? I just opened my i-phone / Lucid App and its the same old version. Did the new version get pushed to you or did you need to go and get it?

I think this is a prerequisite for the new update coming to the car

They can not just push all at once

They will too much headache

Guys just be patient and all will be soft it out just like before

You need to be running iOS 18.2 to see the new update...

My car or seat heating and steering wheel are not showing either. Sent an email. Waiting.

No, the minimum iOS version for the new app is set to 17.2. The update might be set to phase in for people in waves - go to the app store under updates and do a pull to refresh to see if it shows up.

Lots of what I would consider as tabboos done by this team with this update. Unjustified App binary size, well known bad UX (for this specific industry), and now the version being less than 2 iOS versions back when it really doesn’t need to be (I hope there’s a feature they plan on supporting in a big way to justify that one).

I did that but it would not show until I updated to 18.2...strange...

The Android app is going to get much better too; my guess is that they are taking longer with that one because they are likely getting rid of Flutter and rewriting it natively, just like they did with the iOS app in the previous iteration. That was a huge win for the iOS app, and it will likely be a similarly huge win for the Android app.

But that means two codebases, two different beasts, etc. It will be worth it in the end though.

Flutter sucks.
Gee whiz, @borski! Your attempt to make me feel better has made me feel considerably worse.

Please bear in mind that I am trying to convey a tone of humor in this while my head explodes. So, if I understand the logic... "Flutter sucks. Let's get the iPhone Lucid app off Flutter and go native, while at the same time significantly enhancing the iPhone Lucid app. Now, let's do the same thing for the Android app? No, that's a bad idea. Instead, let's spend a few months releasing an even further enhanced version of the native iPhone app, while the Android app, two versions back, is still on Flutter, which sucks so bad that we really gotta finish that up. After all, Android Auto has proved that Android owners are interminably patient, and we should reward that someday."

Now, I KNOW that was neither the logic nor the intent, but it's sure how it comes out looking. Perhaps because I think I, and my Android brethren, may be getting a little 'fluttered' once too often. Frankly, I won't be shocked if the CarPlay 2 release, whatever in hell that is, is not the next big release.

Now, here's what I anticipate to hear next...

Several people will tell me to get an iPhone. Most of them will be attempting humor rather than condescension with this statement. Others will not.

Then, I will be told that I should never have bought the car in the first place.

Then I will be told that I should sell the car.

Then, I will be told how difficult it is to change any Android app, as there are so many different Android phone brands, while changing an iPhone app is tantamount to changing a roll of toilet paper.

Then, I will be told how difficult it is to work with Google, while Apple is so accommodating that Tim Cook actually sleeps on a cot in Newark until everything is worked out.

The car is great. I love the car. I love the whole experience... frustrations and all. That said, my fervent wish is that at least a few people will acknowledge that it must be pretty frustrating for Android owners to see a level two enhancement of the iPhone Lucid app get released right on the heels of yet another delay of Android Auto, however justifiable, while still waiting on their level one Lucid app enhancements, which by the way, I hear was a 'huge win' back then.

I know. it's me. I'm going back to bed now.

We hear you, and we see you, @Buffalo Bob. My Android brothers and sisters have been extremely patient, and we acknowledge that it is frustrating. I hope your wait will be rewarded with something awesome, and I and the rest of us iPhone users will be jealous of you all.

Of immediate concern for those traveling, unless I’m missing something, is charging. If you don’t get the plug n charge handshake, I’m not seeing where you can initiate a charge manually from within the app. Does this only show up if you’re actually plugged in at an EA charger?

if you don't have auto updates for apps enabled on your phone the app will need to be manually updated by you

This is correct. This is feature is dependent on an upcoming software update.

Well this is annoying. They added almost all the anti patterns in the industry to the Home Screen…

You now have to scroll for content and they did the widget crap.

It may have a nice shiny new look but it’s certainly worse in almost every way…

That non system tab bar is also annoying as heck. Some noobie designer clearly came in and just went ham with no throttle or grounding.
Don’t let the sunshine spoil your rain…

That’s how it was in the old app, so I’m assuming would be the case in this one?

I actually do have that enabled, which is why it was strange that it did not just push me the update (until I updated to iOS 18.2)…

@mcr16, just a quick FYI that under iOS 18.2 the new 2.0 Lucid App has crashed for me 3 out of 6 times upon trying to open it…

It shows a black screen with the word “Lucid” and then after waiting 20 seconds or so, instead of the App opening, it reverts me back to my home iPhone screen. Once it begins this behavior, the only way to get the App functioning again is to restart my iPhone.

1. Delete app
2. Reboot phone
3. Download fresh app
4. Report back

Android version “coming soon”, where have I heard that before in 10 years of EV ownership?
