My dynamic range is really low

FWIW i was always driving in “Sprint” mode, and getting about 2.3. I switched to “Smooth” about a week ago, without changing my driving style at all - did my best to maintain the same speeds and acceleration I normally do (even though it requires a heavier foot). Result: it’s gone up to 2.6 - 2.7. So even with the same acceleration and speeds, it seems “Smooth” is more efficient than “Sprint” by about 15%.

Granted this is not at all a scientific test by any stretch, just a tendency I may have noticed.

An interesting thing I’ve noticed is that your dynamic range is not calculated from an average of trip A plus trip B plus since last charge metrics on your trip info. I purposefully reset my trip A from when I first got the car to try to mitigate the effect of winter but my dynamic range is now lower than any of the three range indicators. So my Lucid is still using mileage from new internally I believe to calculate the dynamic range rather than more current conditions which I think makes it less accurate
I have a suspicion that their dynamic algorithm has been tweaked with some software revisions. Mine has been going down steadily with the recent ones. I used to get over 3 mi kW/h easy in Smooth and my driving habits haven't changed, but that's been declining.

My efficiency keeps improving. When I bought the car it showed 3.25 miles/kWh but that rapidly dropped to 2.55 (7-passenger, 21" wheels)!! I just passed 2200 miles and it now shows 3.09 miles/kWh.

I think that’s great. My air GT never got over 3.3 and right now my best days on the gravity are about 3.0

I can have a very light foot (I drove a Gen 2 Prius for 18 years - still being driven >22 years later by my son's girlfriend) which has been necessary to get that efficiency...
Note: I can also have a very heavy foot

I just used launch control (didn’t feel like being second in line to make a turn) to go 3 lanes across on an NYC city block to get ahead of an Aston Martin which was edging to go go go…and then blinked and I’m turning and he’s half a block back.

Not sure why my efficiency is 2.3, I am so gentle at other times…

I live in NYC and my car sees mostly stop and go and short trips around 1mi each during the week. So far at 1500 miles on my GGT and I usually get around 2.00 mi/kwh, unless im doing like a highway trip at which point I see 2.65 or so. I have the 21's also and drive with a pretty light foot most of the time.

I go 2 miles east to west and come back with 1.6 while being light on the pedal in snooze mode, it does surprisingly terrible at speeds under 35mph

I’m assuming you had to slow down and turn around after two miles plus stop at the end? If so, that’s a huge dump of energy which could explain your poor efficiency.

You waste 30% - 40% kinetic energy (as heat) every time you slow down with regen. If you use the brakes, you lose 100% of the energy. City stop-and-go driving is terrible for efficiency for both ICE and EV vehicles.

The Chevy bolt study shows peak efficiency at around 20 mph. I don’t know what it is for the Gravity, but I’m guessing higher.

yeah, I can't figure out how it's calculated either. I finished a trip coming down from the Sierra mountains on Friday, about a 3-hour 30-minute drive and pulled into the garage with around 3.5 mi/kWh dynamic range. not surprising since a lot of that was elevation loss and regen (it's the red zone in the consumption breakdown below, not visible but it was -6.7%). I was at 95% when I left. Temps were ~55-85 F over the the ~260 mile route.

what I don't understand is when I immediately backed out of the garage this morning, the car was saying 2.85 mi/kWh. So, where did yesterday's dynamic range go as a factor?

below is a shot of the energy screen to show the mountain coast down bump up (I haven't charged yet so it hasn't reset the graph).

I've said this multiple times but I used to get well over 3.2 mi/kWh with driving locally until the 3.4.1 update, then it dropped to average below 3. Why? Who knows.

What's annoying is that on the way up I can't really comfortably do my usual door-to-door 240 miles in one charge when temps plummet in winter conditions because I will pull in with less then 5% remaining, too close for me to not stop and charge before the last 80 miles of the hike up. Hate to say it but this is a distance I can easily do in my gas Land Rover in the winter and get there with more than 1/3 of a tank left. (it was even better when I had one of their diesel models).

One reason I sprung for a 450-mile (on paper) Gravity GT was hoping it would better match the LR for range. So far it's not doing so well, unless routes from A to B and back are both going downhill. ;)

It's still fun to drive though, so there's that.

Gravity back from Tahoe energy usage.webp

Weather warmed up to 60deg today, was able to get 2.95 mi/kwh with minimal climate control usage and some stop and go on the highway. Promising!

However dynamic range continues to take some time to average out...i can only find my real efficiency in the trip computer in the Settings screen. They should really put that on the dash somewhere..
