I know this is a crazy concern considering it is one of the differentiating features of Lucid, but I don't think I can get past the glass roof. Personally, I don't mind it, but my wife hates glass roofs. If I have the panoramic roof shade open when she gets in, she immediately closes it.

I can't get a car that she will only ride in at night. LOL.

From what I understand, Gravity may have a metal roof option in the future. However, it appears the model I would buy, the GT with just about every option, is only available with a glass roof right now. And I expect the metal roof might only be available on the Touring model when it is released later next year. But that model is going to be missing all the great things I love about the Gravity.

How are those of you with Airs dealing with the glass roof? Do you have family members who don't like it?

Has anyone tried covering the glass with vinyl to block the sun? I have read that putting reflective vinyl on glass roofs can cause them to crack in the summer heat. It seems strange that would happen since the sun is reflected more, but I guess it causes extreme heat build-up.

Any advice from Air people?

To the extent you're concerned about the glass roof, many owners on this forum have bought the Lucid branded sun shade for the roof, which works exceedingly well, especially in hot/sunny climates (TX, AZ, FL, etc.). I'm sure there will be a similar option for Gravity. I also had a detailer add tint to all of the glass to varying degrees, which a number of others have also done. That works really well also.

For what it's worth, my family loves the glass roof, especially my kids. It makes the car feel much larger than it already is. But as always, everyone has their own likes/dislikes!

I love the glass roof but my wife does not like the sun because she had also minor skin cancer. So the sides are tinted (very dark) and I use the Sunshades from Lucid and everything is great. I would always get the glass canopy roof again!

I guess this means the sunshade can stay up while driving?

For my wife, it is also about the sun on her face, chest and arms. She has not had skin cancer on her face yet, but she has had it on her chest. So for her, it is mainly about the worry of skin cancer.

The Lucid sun shade can stay in place while driving. I agree with the other owner that it fits well and is relatively effective to cutting down the heat and light. It is over-priced, like anything Lucid.😉

I,too, don't really care for the glass canopy roof and wished for a metal roof availability/option for the Gravity GT...🙏😃

I have the Lucid sun shades and they do cut down the heat in summer. I'm sure an option will be available for the Gravity. You can put a tinted film on the roof. I'm a huge fan of the glass roof myself and wanted the clear view. But I have my roof tinted. It's a very light tint, barely visible, but it is full UV. My husband's sunglasses which turn dark in the sun do not change color in the car. That should help alleviate your wife's cancer concerns.

No details have been released, but I've read that the Gravity uses next-generation tinting on the roof that blocks IR (infra-red radiation) even more effectively than on the Air. It is UV (ultra-violet) radiation that poses the risk to skin, and all modern glass roofs have very effective UV blockage. And, as @Amster said, there are near-clear tints that will handle whatever smidgen of UV radiation might get through the glass.

That said, after two years of driving an Air with glass canopy in south Florida, we finally bought the Lucid sunshades for a long summer road trip. It did reduce the heat load in the cabin somewhat, although our A/C had always stayed ahead of the heat load even without the sunshades.

I'm not as sure as others that Lucid will produce a pop-in sunshade for the Gravity canopy, as its expanse is much greater than in the Air. If it does, I suspect it will have some cross-bracing that the Air sunshades do not need.

I actually thought it was cheap at $180 for three pieces given the quality. Much less than tint.

You are a rich man, living in San Diego, the perfect climate place in the entire US. I don't know why you need sun shades. 😎

I got sun shades for my Rivian from Amazon. The Amazon shades has a reflective side (facing out) and is just as effective. Cost is ~1/3 of that of the Lucid-brand shades.

I'm in San Diego as well. It gets hot here too!

No need to worry about UV exposure through the glass causing skin cancer in a Lucid. All the glass is laminated. Windshield, roof, side windows. The center plastic layer in the glass blocks 95+% of UV.
On our more ordinary cars without laminated side windows, we have 3M Crystalline 80% transmission tint applied. It's imperceptible, but blocks 99.9% of UV.

Wimps! You have no idea what HOT is. I live in Arizona!
I could not handle summer in Arizona. I will freely admit it, I am a complete wimp when it comes to heat. Once it's over 90, I prefer to be indoors with AC or by a pool or beach. Not only does it make me uncomfortable, I am prone to heat stroke if I have to be out in 3 digit temperatures for any length of time.

I did not realize that San Diego had temperatures over 90 degrees. I thought that SD was the mild capital of the US weather wise.

SD's temperature (n average) varies by about 10F over the year, I thought!

But, after you lived in SD for 20-30 years, 80F feels like 100F!

The Air GT has a metal roof as an option and I’d be shackled it that is not eventually an option for Gravity…

I can tell you the biggest selling point for me to get my Lucid Air was the metal roof! I want no part of a glass canopy-- so the Gravity is a hard no for me to even consider unless it becomes available with a metal roof!
