My Biggest Concern with Gravity

My philosophy is to not insure against things I can afford. I figured that insurance for little things just pads the pockets of the insurance company. So I'll insure a house. And while I suppose I can afford to lose the entire value of the Gravity, I'd probably insure the car as a whole. But I carry relatively cheaper insurance policies and pay for broken glass myself.
$0 deductible comp is quite cheap (via State Farm) and pays off in my experience.

I’d have a couple of concerns with a metal roof on the Gravity if it ever became an option. One is headroom. The glass roof appears to have been an integral part of giving lots of headroom to the 2nd and especially 3rd row. Would a metal roof with a liner cut a couple inches of headroom? A second concern would be the feel of the 3rd row. The D pillar of the gravity (like the C pillar on Air) is really beefy. There is essentially no side window for the third row. I think with a lowered ceiling and no light, the third row would be a pretty crappy place to be - assuming you select that option and/or depending on how much of a use case the third row is for you.)

I think some of the interior features I’m referencing can be seen pretty clearly in the long OOS vehicle walkthrough posted a few days ago.

I have never used a fabric roof insert, so I can’t speak with any experience, but I wonder whether the huge size of the Gravity glass roof would lead to the center of such an insert sagging and still sacrificing headroom?

Admittedly I am not so concerned about the glass roof but I think that if I were, I’d put a dark tint on the glass before switching to a metal roof.

If the sun isn't in your eyes, and the cabin isn't too hot, I certainly do think that the open spacious feeling of a glass roof seems great. Many years ago I drove a Jeep Wrangler, and it was often very nice traveling with the roof off. Obviously that's more exposed than a glass roof would be.

That third row with the glass roof extending back consistently leads to a “whoa, that’s gorgeous” from anyone sitting there.

Also, the sunshades on the Air are spectacular (and use little clips to keep from sagging) so I suspect the Gravity would be similar.

Do the clips support the shade in the middle, or only at the edges? I would just think that some sag, particularly over a much larger open span in the Gravity, might be in play? And if there is any "doming" of the glass in Gravity...??? Obviously I am not speaking with any direct experience....

Cause that's what everybody wants?

I don't think "everybody" wants this. Some people are practical, like me. I want less wind noise and better temperature control. Couldn't care less about the magnificent sky above me, especially when I'm supposed to watch the road ahead.

you are correct - certainly 10-20% want a coffin. Don't whine if the rest of the world does not, and don't fault Lucid for prioritizing what non-vampires want 🤣

Check your settings, they are a bit aggressive for a Sunday afternoon. I did not whine, neither I faulted Lucid for doing this.

Seriously that's your reply? One of the things I enjoy about forums for high end products like Lucid is the civility of the opinions expressed. You might want to think about that a bit.

You are both right, sorry I came off that way I did not mean too be uncivil by any stretch. Long day at work. I did not mean it that way. I expect many people want the light and headroom in the gravity which is why they are prioritizing it. You are correct that "everybody" does not want a glass roof.

No more "aggressive" than labeling a glass roof as "hype" or "eye candy", objectively speaking. To each their own.
