Most & Least considered cars

EQS is a good EV; however, its interior reminds me of Macao casinos. It seems Mercedes Benz has geared more toward Chinese buyers. In China, MB has high demand as status symbol and their popular taste to me is overkill of neon plush tackiness.
I drove my wife's AMG EQS this week and it's a great car, powerful, smooth, quiet, great NAV and HUD but I don't like Mercedes interiors at all.

I feel the same. I like its HUD, Infotainment selections, but not the interior cabin. I feel S-class somehow feel a lot more luxurious than EQS-class.

I think that Mercedes is trying for a sporty, high tech look?

I still think the EQS looks like a 1990's Ford Taurus .. not really sporty! .. like the looks of my S class (inside & out) much better

I went to a focus group for the EQS 4 years ago. They only had a mock up of the Hyperscreen for us to look at, it wasn't illuminated nor could we see the ambient lighting. Everyone liked it, but now in practice, it does seem too much and in reality it isn't really one screen but 3 separate screens. We also saw the new S-Class but that had the center screen. Once again, nothing was turned on so we couldn't determine what it would look like. I go to many focus groups and get to see vehicles WAY before they are released. I recently saw Bentley/Audi/Porsche EV designs which will be at least 5 or more years out. If you think that MB went futuristic, wait until you see what others will be doing. The future is screens, screens and more screens EVERYWHERE!

I don't like the S Class either. I used to be a BWM fan but new grills are a turn off, for me. Interiors are much better than Mercedes or Audi, again just my tastes.

I have been on the fence with Tesla ever since the S was introduced. It kept getting worse. The Joke steering wheel and Elon's coming out as mentally ill ended my interest in Tesla. I'm still waiting for someone to show me Lucid's equal in any category. The EV Mercedes is too ugly for words.

Must have been the same guy who came up with the Lexus grill refresh.

I agree with that! My Model S is loud at highway speeds! The Lucid is much quieter, although I thought the Mercedes EQS was even quieter when I test drove it. If I could have gotten past the casino glitz of the interior, I would have seriously considered it. But I’m happy with the Lucid and hope the software continues to catch up with the excellent hardware.
I have had s classes for the past few years until I traded mine in for the bentayga this year. I did consider the EQS but the looks are pretty bad imo, looks like an egg, also the EV's at that price range need to be torquey and responsive which the EQS is not. Matter of fact I am contemplating getting an s class next year but the gas version. There is something about the range rovers and S class with their overall experience that no other manufacturer has been able to replicate. Eqs is pretty close to the s class but again falls short of the overall experience with the ugly looks and the interior for some reasons is more barebones than the gas version which I probably blame of maximizing the range. Lucid so far has been the only EV that is close the being least sacrificial compared to gas cars. It's a WIP so some things still need a lot of work which I hope they catch up within next 6-8 months.

The biggest advantage of the Air Imo is how compact the body is compared to the space they have been able to utilize and the lean and efficiency of their components and packaging which has allowed them to keep it on par with gas cars

This is why the Lyriq's active noise cancelation with sensors at each wheel is a good ideal to isolate the road noise away is a good idea. As you mentioned, people will think that EVs are noisy when in reality its the engine that is noisier than everything else in an ICE.
EV's technically have a higher decibel reading in the interior and it's not because of not having an engine. It's because of lack of insulation. The entire range thing is bringing a lot of innovation to forefront regarding aerodynamics, noise insulation, weight reduction etc. but the current technology for nosie reduction is basically noise insulation material which EV's are shying away from due to added weight. They can barely make their claimed range in normal circumstances. Imagine a model X 100d with proper noise insulation. It barely hits 200-220 miles normally and even lower in winters ( real world). Adding another 100 lbs is going to be even worse. Then wheel well insulation is reduced in lieu of foam tires. luxury cars barely have engine noise in the interior. My electric motors are louder than the engines in these cars. Also if sound cancellation of engines is so good why go through all the paddings if sound cancellation can solve all the problems

I don't think there currently is an equal to Lucid in its category. The forthcoming BMW I5 will be close (being a BMW based on a 5 series I suspect it will handle as well as a Lucid Air) but it will still be a cludge of a car designed for both ICE and electric. Perhaps the next version of the Taycan.

"Throttle House" just released its 2022 Car of the Year video. As only cars that entered the market in 2022 were eligible, the Lucid was not included in the running. The award went to the Corvette Z06.

What was surprising is that another car that was also not eligible for consideration came in for an out-of-the-blue slam: the Mercedes EQS.

I agree that the EQS 450+ and 580 are disappointing. The AMG EQS drives and stops better but still no excuse.

Disappointing, yes. But "a garbage car" and "a piece of ----"?

I like "Throttle House" and its irreverence, but I thought that was a bit over the top, even for them.

But then I got to thinking. A car with a 10-inches-longer wheelbase than a Lucid Air but less rear headroom and no more rear legroom than the Air? A car with a smaller battery pack but a frunk filled with mechanicals and electrics and no storage? A car with an air suspension and rear-wheel steering that waddles on the curves where the Air grips and blasts?

Maybe I do get it.

We ended up buying an AMG EQS that I thought I would flip for $75K but after we drove it and my wife liked it, we kept it. There are things that I don't like but it is a very polished, well driving car. The AMG version is better than the other EQS models. I like the handling of the BWM EVs much better than the EQS models other than the AMG and like the BMW interior better also.

I don't know how much further you continued with the video, but "Throttle House" really liked the BMW i4.

I cross-shopped the following (reason for elimination in parentheses):
Taycan Turbo S (gets too expensive with myriad options, range too low)
Audi Rs eTron GT (range too low, weird interior)
EQS AMG (ugly, interior way over-done)
Plaid (questionable quality, way too common here)

Please help me with this, I want the taycan, lucid, or eqs. Dont really care about range, but want a good backseat and driving experience.

I suggest you drive each one of them on an extended test drive. I drove the one at the local dealer and then went back on decision day and took an hour test drive in each of two GTs, one with 19” wheels and one with 21”. Yes, I was a crazy person, but I’m very glad that I completely vetted my decision.

These are also very subjective. What do you mean by good driving experience? I would much rather drive my manual shift Aston Martin then my Lucid. It’s a much more involved driving experience. This may be opposite of your goals. I like the backseat in the Lucid because it is very large of plenty of legroom. The car sits low, and that can be a problem for some people. This is a big investment, do your due diligence.
