Lucid Winter Wheel Package

In Park City and how much I ferry people to the ski resorts, dedicated snow tires are a must for a car. I am lucky as I currently drive a 4 ton diesel truck and the all season are just fine in all conditions. The Gravity, I know, will be quite different. Rather have dedicated as well. I just need to either purchase the 20"/21" wheels and buy the tires myself or get a snow tire package from Lucid - either is fine.
 
We're now into the start of Fall, and no word on the winter tire options for the Gravity yet. I'm not yet concerned, as my GGT isn't going into production for another two weeks, and so I figure I'll be lucky to take delivery by Thanksgiving. But I've started to see some very positive press about the new Michelin CrossClimate tires. The CrossClimate 3 sounds like a modest incremental improvement over the CrossClimate 2, and will thus be considered one of the best available 3PMSF all season tires available, and I see the CrossClimate 2 is offered for sale in the Gravity 20/21 tire sizes. But the really interesting tire is the CrossClimate 3 Sport, which delivers great performance in both the cold and wet for an all season tire, a firm and responsive tire feel, and also seems to have pretty low rolling resistance.
 
I can only speak from winter experience with my Air in New England but the 19” Pirelli All Seasons did surprisingly well. I ended up replacing them with Nokian WRG5 All Weather at 35k miles due to one tire being worn enough (the Nokian all weather are actually rated for snow unlike all seasons), and while yes they did add extra grip, the range hit was surprising, at least 0.5 mi/kwh, and their marketing and reviews all were saying “oh these are great EV tires, low rolling resistance, etc” and well maybe they are but not for the Lucid. Unless you’re going to be in deep unplowed snow a lot, I wouldn’t bother with anything beyond AS tires, I surprised by how well Lucid’s traction control handled very bad weather on All Seasons, and while maybe you could find someone to ask, I think they probably did their winter testing on those Hankooks so you’re probably fine with just the OEM tires. The consideration is that sub freezing weather is likely already going to reduce your real world range by 25-30% since you’re gonna be pre-heating the car and pre-conditioning the battery, so the last thing you want is winter tires to kill the efficiency even more.

Don’t have a vehicle yet as Lucid is fixing it after a quick visit to review the exterior, needs a seat replaced in 2nd row and spoiler, all before taking delivery. Been 3 or 4 weeks now, starting to lose track of time. Quarter end they wanted me to just take it as is…

Nice, post a picture once they're fitted. But I don't know that Michelin Pilot Sport tires will be a great option for those of us thinking about winter conditions. 🤣

They are all season and great in the snow, not so much on ice.

I had em for 20k on current vehicle and dry and wet braking is amazing.

Hope to have em mounted next 2 months as the vehicle is too busy being repaired and I didn’t even take delivery yet.

Interesting. Where I am in California, temperatures go back and forth across 32° F, and so I worry about melting during the day, and then refreezing at night. I wouldn't want a tire without the full 3PMSF rating.

Yep, if you're going to have two sets you might as well get something with a little better snow/ice performance. Summer and all weather is the best combo for California. If you're going to have one set of tires then Pilot Sport A/S is a good choice.

I'm not committed enough to car tuning to juggle two sets of tires. And I often haven't really had the storage space for them either. Back when I lived close to sea level, I never would have worried about 3PMSF. But now living at 6400' elevation I get real winter, and safety concerns motivate me to optimize for grip on ice and snow, even if it degrades performance on dry/wet.

I feel ya...hwy 88 trying to get to Kirkwood is the real deal sometimes. Don't want to even consider a tire that doesn't cut it out in the forest in Feb!!

Model X wheels are a direct fit, need different tire size. And the weight load is questionable as Gravity is at least 500# heavier.

I will be testing this out in the next couple months as wheels expected today but no vehicle yet.

Not aware of any winter tire options or even any all season tires for 22/23's...seems they only make a summer tire for those (it's the 23" wheel that I don't find anything other than the Pirrelli PZ4)

I'm in Chicago. Got my Model3 in Nov 2018, big snow shortly thereafter and some research convinced me to get a set of winter tires. I had lots of work appointments to drive to and a daughter going to college in MN. There were times where I was glad to have them, but year by year there were more times when it would warm up so much that I worried about having the softer compound on, even occasional days in Jan and Feb, many in March. Haven't had to clear more than an inch or two the past few winters.

Now I don't have as many appointments, daughter is graduated and the climate change that drove my initial interest in electric cars seems to be having real impact. I can walk to a grocery store and most services and the train. There's Uber. Swapping and storing are a pain. I'm just going to live with all seasons and adapt. Like an urban raccoon.
 
yes I want to get a 20/21 wheel set with winter tires to swap with my 22/23s, but not aware of any confirmed wheels which fit over our breaks. Has anyone for sure confirmed fitment?

I ordered the 20 front, 21 rear, I will let you know once I get them if they actually fit. 🤞 If all goes well, I plan to mount Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires on them.

FYI, my Lucid service center said I can order the 20/21" Voyager wheels with TPMS sensors for $4374. Tire Rack has Vredestein Wintrac Pro+ tires for those wheels for $1355.42. So that's what I'm proceeding with.
