Lucid Air Cupholder NHTSA Complaint

Here is a quick video of my car and cups :)
I have a Lucid studio on the first floor of my building. I took a bag of my mugs to the studio today to test :) The new Air still has the tight cup holders but they have fixed it in Gravity, which has slightly wider ones. The regional sales manager was at the store and acknowledged that this is a problem with Air. He used to drive an Air and had this problem and coffee spills. He said that Lucid has come up with an adapter for them but they block the lid for storage compartment and buttons on the screen, so he does not recommend them. Even the Lucid's own cup was a tight fit in Air.

I think this is a serious hazard that the company is aware of and should fix. Their own employees agree with it.
If I was the regional sales manager, I would have given you 2 brand new Lucid tumblers while selling you a 2026 Air... First world problems are easier to solve.

I'm all for driver and passenger safety but this thread and comments are on par with powder coated tires for sale 🤣 Value and concerns are in the eye of the beholder... following for the humor.
What happened to Blueice89? It doesn't look like he's a member anymore...😧

The cup holder issue is documented in this review
I used to follow this guy for engineering aspect as I like to use marker pen on whiteboard when used to teach in flying school like he does, but common, he now drives Mach-E and getting R2 and still using Lucid in the video title is obviously a click bait.

Why don’t we just address the elephant in the room here? The cupholders are small because the seats are wide.

You want big cup holders, you need narrower seats. Or live with one cupholder instead of two. It’s your mouth or your butt. Choose.

Personally, I found the seats in the Air super comfortable compared to most sedans. And I accepted the trade off of smaller cupholders. (Heck, I would have been fine with no cupholders at all. Water bottle in the map pocket was all I ever needed for longer road trips.)

If you’re skinny enough to fit into the narrow seats of a BMW, you might disagree.

But I’m guessing if you want cupholders that can hold a giant Big Gulp, you might appreciate the wider seat as well.

Porsche solved this with those clever little holders you can hide away when not using them. But those are flimsy and tend to be too small to support the weight of a giant cup, too.

There’s only one way to make cupholders “safe”. And that’s not to have them. Drinking while driving is a distraction. Can’t be done with both hands on the wheel. So it shouldn’t be done at all. If the goal is to maximize safety, that’s the only honest answer.

He was trying to get me to test drive the gravity. But I will wait for atleast 2 generations before looking at Lucid again.

Lol.. elephant in the car maybe. Lucid could have made narrow seats and sold a treadmill with it. It is a performance car, for responsible fit people...
The car gives drowsy driver warning (a cup of coffee symbol) and asks you to go to get coffee and navigates you to it. Then you buy the coffee, but can't hold it anywhere. Amazing design. And they do call something 'Hands - free drive assist'.

My wife nixed a Lucid because of the cupholders and two of the Houston reps grumbled she wasn't the first. The cupholders are may not be a hazard but they are costing sales.
I would fully believe some people don’t buy the car because they don’t like the cup holders. Lots of reasons not to spend $70k+ on literally anything. :)

It’s impressive use of space that you can fit an elephant in the car
