It will automatically lock when you walk away.

I think it auto locks & sleeps when you walk away. If you figure out how to leave unlocked in garage, let the forum know.

Would keep the car awake? My thought so far is that the software was designed to sleep when locked, and prefers the locked state as a result.

Loading the car up for a trip has the same issue… the car locks and unlocks whenever I go inside and back out with luggage or whatever. Best way around this is to leave the driver’s door slightly open the entire time.

If you have the trunk open and lock by means of the left part of the instrument panel and close the doors and then throw in the fob into to cab through the ski opening and then close the trunk you have managed locking youself out unless theres a special trick i havent tried yet. Also given youve forgotten wallet with valet card in cab.

Yes, it does work that way, but prepare to have more fob batteries in hand like I do.

I have found that leaving a door open will not prevent the car from locking. The car use to frequently lock while a door was open preventing me from removing the charging cable. This would with 1.x software when the key fob recognition was acting up.

There is a nice option in Tesla where you can leave the car unlocked while it’s in the garage. I would expect this feature in Lucid soon through software updates.

Right - I've had four other EVs, and none of them tied the sleep state to the locked/unlocked status.

Given the problems that some owners are having with slow unlock, being able to have the car stay unlocked at a "hone" location would be most welcome. Better yet, fix the slow unlock.

All of the above. Fix the locks, first and foremost. Fix connectivity so you can always wake it via WiFi or cell signal.

Then allow folks who want to leave it unlocked to do so.

I don’t think they’d allow the car to “stay awake” however. That would likely drain your battery more than most would want. But if they can solve that, then go for it.

I usually end by saying Lucid has a long list of priorities. But honestly, at this point fixing the locks once and for all should probably be at the top of the list.

This is one of my wife’s biggest bitches about our new Gravity. We typically have always left our cars unlocked when in our garage. You forget you left something in car, just run out and grab it. Or like yesterday when she got back from grocery run in her non- EV car, she wanted to transfer some of the items over to Gravity but realized she had to go into house and get keys to unlock the Gravity.

I know there has been some talk about enabling a geofencing locking system that would leave car unlocked at home. Problem I perceive is that Lucid’s locking/door unlatching system is electric based. When you pull on the presented handle, it triggers an electric switch to open/release the door. I have used app to unlock my Gravity and leave it unlocked. Display comes on and stays on (telling me that car is remaining powered up). After about 15 minutes the car powers down and automatically re-locks.
So it appears that keeping the car unlocked for long times would have a noticeable power drain on battery and power of some level is currently required to unlatch/open the doors. I know that the opening system has a mechanical backup but have only heard how that works when trying to open door from inside of car while power is out, not sure how it would work from outside. Even if it did work from the outside, I have a feeling that it would require a heavy pull on the handle.

Now we know that our Lucid’s have different levels of power use. Even when shut down, there is a low level of power used to maintain cell/wifi connectivity and monitor car systems. Then when you unlock the car, it goes to a higher level of power use. Having the ability to leave doors unlocked for long periods and still have ease of access without notable power drain would require that the door unlatching system be powered in that low power state and not require car be in full powered up state.

With PAAK, this is not as much of an issue in that I am more likely to have my phone on me than the key fob (hey Lucid, us Gravity owners are still waiting on that promised PAAK), but don’t necessarily keep on me all the time. Also the case of those with kids. Kid leaves his backpack in car and needs it now for homework. “Mom, where are the car keys, I need to get my backpack!” Or for us Gravity owners with only one fob, mom accidentally kept that one fob in her purse when she headed out with friends in their car.

Because of this complexity, I am somewhat doubtful of this coming to our cars anytime soon. But still hopeful that Lucid can figure it out.

For the car to remain unlocked while in a predefined geo fence location, the door handles would need to be manual. The Air handles as we know are electric and only extend when in the unlock state. As others have said, this will keep the car in the powered on state the whole time the car I unlocked.
I often wish for a simpler manual door handles in the Air. We certainly did NOT need this electric door handles as that has led to this current catastrophic state of not knowing when the door handles will finally extend.

Most EVs have these kind of door handles and permit the car to remain unlocked when in the garage. I don't see how the fact that the handles are electric mandates that the car lock itself.

This is interesting. In those other EVs, if the car is unlocked for an extended duration, do the door handles remain in the extended state? I fail to see how that would be the case without the car remaining in the on state.

It’s not like they’re intrinsically linked. You can keep the state of the servo set to “open” while the car is off. It doesn’t require power to keep the servo (or whatever) in that state.
