Lease return excess wear & tear

Email just received from Lucid on end of lease experience. My lease isn’t up for another 11 months. Nice to see some action here.

Dear Valued Customer,

At Lucid Motors, we strive to deliver an exceptional experience at every stage of ownership, including the conclusion of your lease. We understand that some customers have encountered concerns or confusion during the lease-return process, and we want to acknowledge those experiences directly.

We sincerely apologize for any frustration or inconvenience you may have experienced. Your feedback has made it clear that, in some cases, our communication, inspection, and billing processes did not meet the standards of transparency and fairness that we hold ourselves to.

Lucid is currently reviewing all recent lease-end charges to ensure they are accurate, appropriate, and consistent with our published policies. We are also working closely with our finance and inspection partners to improve clarity in inspection reports, final billing, and the overall return experience.

In addition to these measures, please note that underbody plate scratches and any scratches smaller than 3.5 inches on the body of the vehicle are not subject to charges. We have also eliminated charges for wheel scrapes that are less than 3.5 inches, and reduced charges for wheel scrapes between 3.5 inches and 12 inches to $200. Additionally, there will be no charges for any interior stain that is less than 3.5 inches.

If you believe that a charge you received may be inaccurate or would like to request a review, please contact Lucid Financial Services at 1-833-423-0369.

Thank you for being part of the Lucid community and for giving us the opportunity to make this right. Your trust and satisfaction are of the utmost importance to us.

Sincerely,
Lucid Motors

Just received the same email from Lucid, which is a step in the right direction.
At least this is being communicated clearly to all lease customers. I’ve been worried that some lease customers who are not active here or on Reddit might have been charged by BoA with those ridiculous charges and ended up paying it to avoid the risk of being sent to collection agencies.

A friend forwarded me the message. See attached. Huge step in the right direction. Glad to see this type of communication from Lucid.

Welcome response. Sorta wish it came last week before I refinished all my wheels this week for the return.

Very glad to see this email come through. I suspect we’ll keep seeing a long tail of outrageous charges as the returns still in the pipeline come through, but it sounds like there is acknowledgement and a next step for folks who got dinged.

I don’t think they’re going to do anything more than they already have, which was basically nothing. Their actions show that they are okay with this, unless you publicly shame them.

What an odd choice.
This didn't age well. :P

What struck me is that Lucid Finance is actually a B of A entity and yet Lucid automotive is accepting responsibility at the beginning and then refers any complainant back to the B of A subsidiary.

Just like the original lease terms, Lucid can have any wear and tear clearly spelled out - but BofA already wasn’t following those guidelines. The proof will be if Lucid can enforce them now and we won’t know until leases end and people are happy, because it is just talk until then. If BofA still ignores these rules, then what?

Then you contact the number Lucid provided in their original statement, and someone from Lucid straightens it out.

But I have to imagine Lucid agreed to these guidelines along with BoA before sending them out to us. So this should be rare now. At least in theory.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about following Lucid over the past several years, it’s that whenever they encounter a new situation they haven’t needed to deal with before, there’s a reasonable chance they will make a few mistakes before eventually figuring it out. And then we’ll all move on to complaining about something else.

Whether it’s EA plug and charge issues, the Dream Drive Pro trials they briefly experimented with, EA surcharges for idle time. EA free subscriptions ending. And now leases ending. They always figure it out eventually.

Next will be when they start charging us for connectivity, as they were supposed to do after one year but never got around to. I’m certain that’s coming. And I’m certain there will be a 20-page thread of complaints about it.

Lol this is so true

I was actually thinking about this. What's going to be discussed on this forum once Lucid get lease return (seems like end is near) and software bugs squashed enough to eliminate keys and black screen issues? I am sure we will find something 😀 😜

I’m surprised they don’t. I would like a native Apple Music app first tho. And the screen to show my car and not some silver DE.

Yeah. I may or may have not mentioned to one or two Lucid folks a couple of times how much of a win something so seemingly small would be.

I get it. It’s a pre-rendered animation, not a live 3D model like the Air in our mobile app, or in the cockpit screen when you are in HA. So they’d have to replace that animation entirely. And it’s easy to argue they have more important bugs to fix.

But boy, that would sure make a lot of folks “surprised and delighted” as Apple likes to put it.

Someone would complain, for sure, that resources were wasted on a thing that doesn’t improve functionality. But they’d be wrong. Those little touches are key to the experience. They make you feel just a little more connected to your car.

And, spoiler alert: they aren’t likely to introduce new bugs or take much time to accomplish.

So while I accept the argument that it should be low priority, I do wish they’d do it, anyway.

Small wins like that help.
