Lease return excess wear & tear

So sorry to hear your experience. Just one quasi correction: Lucid isn't making that $5K, B of A is making it. But Lucid picked B of A to be its leasing partner so I agree with you that Lucid is responsible for the experience even though it may not currently have any power over it. And I can't blame you for walking away; if this had happened to me I would do the same.
We all know this. Does it really matter?

Yes, that seems petty to me. Is the car supposed to go back like it was when leased? 🤦🏾‍♂️

Following this thread as my lease goes back soon, what im gathering is that fixing any damage prior to a final inspection and bill seems like the best plan. Although $200/wheel for refinishing is about market price so that doesn't seem to out of line.

It is so stupid and such a waste of time to have this be a multi step process. WTF is a pre-inspection even? If I am turning in my car, let me schedule the return, get it inspected at that moment, and be done - you know, like every other lease I’ve ever had from every other

I do not know if there is still a further post-return inspection (as per Lucid’s website). if there was I have not seen any evidence of that. I had the pre-return inspection at home, came back all clear, returned the car and that was it. Just the lease termination fee to pay.

One bonus for me was that when I returned my car, Lucid took my all weather mats under a recall and I received a check for $300 which covers a chunk of the lease termination fe

Yes, that's pretty much exactly what's happening here. Unlike any other maker or major lease provider, Lucid/BofA do not seem to accept ANYTHING as "allowed, reasonable wear and tear". They clearly expect the car to be returned exactly as showroom new condition or they start adding up the charges to you. That is NOT what is supposed to happen, but it's what happens with Lucid.
A lot of lost customers, a lot of people like me have gone from eager fan and proponent to detractor.

I’ve leased many cars from all the usual suspects-BMW, Mercedes, Porsche and Cadillac…-and not once have I ever been charged for anything upon return. Clearly Lucid is trying to claw back some $ anyway they can. What a terrible decision. My plan was to lease another. However if this is the game they want to play this will be my last Lucid.
Lucid doesn’t get the money we pay for lease turn in “excess wear and tear”…BoA does!

Precisely. This thread has spent a lot of time being upset with Lucid, which is fine, because at the end of the day the buck stops with them.

But Lucid isn’t trying to swindle people out of cash at the end of their lease; they literally do not see that money and thus don’t care (from a bottom-line perspective) about a bit of wheel rash.

Hence why they are likely fighting BoA internally, since BoA *actually* owns the leased fleet.

Who do you think gets paid to do the repairs once BofA has taken the money from the client? I would imagine most of the cars, if they are to be repaired, get sent to Lucid for reconditioning, so yes they do make money off of the lease end charges. I also wouldn’t be surprised if there was some sort of revenue share agreement between the bank and Lucid too - would not be unusual at all.

I wonder if B of A actually sends some of these vehicles back for repair or simply auctions them off?

I suspect that the vast majority of repairs are done by non-Lucid 3rd parties. Wheel rash, paint chips, etc can easily be handled by shops that have an affiliation with BoA's leasing arm.

Lucid service doesn’t do body work. Nearly all of the post-lease charges are for body work, not internal wear.

So a certified body shop gets paid to do the repairs, not Lucid. (Yes, Lucid sells them parts, but please)

And BoA is not charging you for a door replacement when you have a scratch on your door; they’re charging you for a repair.

I’m not saying they should; but Lucid isn’t the one repairing all the body work.

Update on my situation... while I felt confident that my car was in as good of condition as any vehicle could be, the early turn in cars had built up a lot of anxiety in me. Yesterday I got my final lease termination invoice. I was only charged for mileage overage and the termination fee... so it appears like I was one of the lucky ones. Hopefully others are as fortunate!!

I'm certainly not looking back

It sounds like they’ve pretty much fixed the issue. That’s really great.

Happy to hear a change here for sure! but I’d be weary to claim it’s fixed till we have more evidence.

Sure - I’m not counting chickens yet. But it bodes very well.

Well, not so fast on turning the corner. My fiance' leased her 2023 Air Pure 18 months ago and I leased a 2024 Touring for myself 3 months later. She had her pre-inspection on her Air Pure about 3 weeks ago and it had some wear and tear on there but the big thing was the front windshield. They found a "chip" and took a picture with a ruler. The ironic thing is I or my fiance' could not see where they were talking about. So we contacted Safelite Glass company to come out to repair or replace the windshield. It is covered by insurance so we were fine with either way. When the woman from Safelite came out last week, she could not find any cracks or dings in the windshield to speak of. The few things she saw were TINY and definitely deemed "normal wear and tear". She said these are so minor that she couldn't believe anything came up from any inspector. She called her Manager who said to repair anything minor. She also said the insurance company would not replace the windshield as there was nothing there to allow for replacement. The Manager asked was this inspection from Lucid or an independent company. When I told them an independent company he said, "there you go". I called our Lucid sales rep and talked to him about not having any problems with this turn in when we come in. He couldn't say much but didn't foresee a problem after I explained all this.

So this past Friday, we drove 4 hours to turn her car in AND we leased a new 2025 Air Touring. When we got there, we had the Lucid lease return guy look at our windshield. He agreed there is nothing on that windshield. Well, this morning, my fiancé' got her inspection report and they want $2850, $2500 for the windshield!! Are you f'ing kidding me? The picture they used in the "Condition Report" is from the pre-inspection, not even the final inspection. Also included was $150 for a tire pressure warning light that won't turn off. That's not on us and its under warranty regardless! This all is very troubling and like a scam. I just now messaged my Lucid sales rep and let him have it. I don't care ONE BIT about Bank of America or independent inspection company this or that. This is total B.S. and its on Lucid. I told my sales rep I would have NEVER leased this new Touring if this is the garbage that gets pulled on Lucid customers. We were strongly considering a Gravity Touring next year but why in the world would we do that?
We'll see what happens from here....

I'm wondering whether turn-in nightmares are coming from certain geographic regions. It would be helpful to know where these reports are originating from.

Sonofabish and BillyT: where are you located?

I just said the same thing to my wife after I saw the last post....

I'm in Pennsylvania, and my car was returned to the King of Prussia service center.
