Issues Gravity Software Updates Haven't Yet Fixed

That doesn’t feel like a single bug, more like the car getting into a bad state.

I’d try letting it fully sleep for a while, then see if behavior resets. Also worth removing and re-pairing the fob, and turning off phone key for a bit to rule out interference.

The LED strip still sounds hardware, especially since it’s always the same section.

If all these issues keep happening together, I’d push the service center to look beyond software and check modules instead of just recalibrating.

These issues still occur after the car has been powered down overnight.

I can't count the times I've changed a fob battery within days or a couple of weeks of an earlier replacement to see if that resolves a fob issue. The Gravity doesn't yet have PAAK as far as I know. If it does, I haven't activated it. According to the work order, the key fob of the older Gravity was re-paired to it during a recent service visit. Two weeks ago our mobile tech delivered a second key fob for each Gravity DE which we were still owed, and he paired those fobs while he was here. And I have done the key fob updates on all four keys since the 3.5.1 download.

Frankly, I'm tired of constantly trouble-shooting issues and looking for expedients to fix issues the cars should not be having in the first place. I'm tired of sitting on hold for Customer Service to take a call. I'm tired of working my schedule around one mobile tech visit after another (our mobile tech is a great guy, btw). I'm tired of one or another of the cars being trucked over to Miami over and over for weeks at a time. I'm tired of these cars.

Perhaps the friendly computer geeks on the forum can give me some insight here. I've been posting for a while about the audio pausing repeatedly in both cars when any two of our three Lucids are on the road at the same time. It happens even when the cars are playing music from different sources (Tidal, Spotify, or a USB stick in the front console), and it happens Gravity-to-Gravity or Gravity-to-Air.

Today I discovered a new wrinkle. We had both Gravities on the road for a range comparison. One Gravity was streaming from Spotify. As soon as I powered up the other Gravity and started streaming from Tidal, the audio started pausing repeatedly in both cars, as usual. So I switched to the USB stick. The music still paused in both cars, again as usual. This time, though, I just left the USB music on pause instead of restarting play. As long as I left it on pause, the other car could stay on Spotify without pausing.

This was going to be about a 2-hour drive, so I called the other car to ask the driver to switch to his USB stick. Once he did, we could both play the USB sticks without pausing.

So . . . the music will pause with two streaming sources and with one streaming source and one USB stick source. However, it will not pause with two USB sticks being used.

A Lucid software team has been trying to figure out the source of this issue. Does today's scenario suggest any possible cause they might not have yet explored?

I still think it’s something off about your Lucid account. If it was the same service, that’s be an easy explanation. But for it to be Spotify in one and Tidal in the other? I have no idea other than your Lucid account.

I do not know why or how that would affect it, to be clear. But I can think of no other explanation at the moment.

My wife and I share the same email address since we were married. This seemed like a good idea at the time. I'm used to not reading anything with regard to gardening, cooking, Game of Thrones, Downtown Abbey ect. and I imagine she ignores anything related to programming, engineering, 3d printing or disasters(Lucid same category:).

However, in recent years it has gotten old. As we have switched to paperless correspondence nearly all the medical, .gov, and banking institutions can't seem to handle two people at the same email address. They increasingly want to use the email address as an account identifier. No matter if they say they can handle it they can't. In this category include major places like Social Security and Apple Co.

I'm sure Lucid is using the same core data services as everyone else and hence the problem. Like everyone else they really can't handle it. Just as I used to have my own name as an Apple developer I now have my wife's name no matter how many times I try to get them to change it.

Strangely enough most of these institutions will let you use an alias of your email. They then use that as the account identification and to send back a security verification code. Sounds real secure doesn't it. But it does work. You just have to keep track of what alias you gave to whom. Some password managers will do that for you.

So, long story short, maybe you could reregister one of your cars with Lucid. Tell them you sold it to the alias. All your real info would be the same.

Is there any disadvantage to having each vehicle on a separate account?

Since we were already having the problem after getting our second Lucid (our first Gravity), when we took delivery of our second Gravity I asked to have it put on a different account. They said they could not, as the car had been purchased on my existing account. Now that a Lucid HQ software team is supposedly investigating the matter, I have asked several times to put the three cars on separate accounts. Lucid has so far refused. I have asked whether it's a matter of company policy or for technical reasons and been told it's a combination . . . whatever that means.

Honestly, I question whether there's actually an engineer at Lucid tasked with resolving your audio pausing issue. The data streaming has packets transiting through a server somewhere, and there's only so many places where the streams between two vehicles could be tied together in some way. Add in that the affected vehicles are all on the same account, and that's a giant clue. If someone was actively working on the problem, I wouldn't expect it to be all that hard to chase down.

Typical practice in software engineering is to list all know bugs in a bug tracking database, triage them for severity, and assign engineers to the most severe bugs. The combination of a (presumably?) limited number of people being affected by this bug, and that it's not severe enough to prevent someone from driving the car (unlike quite a few other issues discussed here), and there's a good chance no one is actually working on your problem. People who aren't software engineers are often shocked by just how many bugs get listed in bug tracking systems for software that's considered to be high quality. Since Lucid's software is still pretty far from that, it wouldn't be at all surprising if their bug tracking system has bug counts in the thousands. Most bugs that they know about will be getting no attention as a result.

Are both of your Spotify and Tidal accounts family accounts? If one is an individual account, it may cause issues…

Both are family accounts. And why would playing a USB stick get tangled up in this? That really throws me.

Sounds reasonable.

I know Tesla proxies all car Internet traffic. It's not clear why but they could have some denial-of-service limits in potential nefarious traffic by rate limiting. If Lucid does the same, could be some server side rule like "no more that 10 mbs/sec from any account at any time". Highly speculative but plausible.

Separate accounts would tell you soon enough. Clearly it is something in common to your 3 vehicles.

I have had my suspicions.

Maybe Lucid just doesn't expect to sell multiple Lucids to many buyers . . . or just hopes they won't find out about this issue until after they've bought their second Lucid.

When the car is on Wi-Fi, its traffic is definitely not all tunneled through Lucid. I've taken several packet captures (tcpdump) to check what the car does. It's communicating all over the place, including to Lucid's OpenVPN and MQTT endpoints.

Spotify has this annoying thing to synchronize all sources using the same account. All sources will play the same song, play/pause together, etc.

I have this pause problem happening with my Spotify on Android Auto as well. It's annoying. It's hard to tell whether it's the car commanding that or something on Spotify. I think it's the car, because I also have Android Auto on my BMW and it just works.

I have the car's Spotify app logged in to my account as well. I should log it out to see if the problem goes away.

All of this is true, but what’s unique is that many people (myself included) have multiple Lucid vehicles on one account, and only @hmp10 (to my knowledge) has seen this issue.

It should definitely be possible, as you could just “sell the car” to your partner. Or tell them you have a new email address and lost access to the old one.

I agree - that is dumb.

There are other folks on this forum who have multiple Lucids and don’t have the issue, yours truly included.

I can't sell one of the cars to my partner without triggering sales tax. And that would still leave two cars with the problem.

Also, one of the cars was registered by Lucid to my partner as the primary owner and me as the secondary owner. I asked Lucid to move that one to an account in his name, but they refused -- again saying the car was bought on my account.

Do other owners have three Lucids? So far, I've DM'd two posters who have two Lucids, but both said the two are never on the road at the same time. But this might not be relevant, anyway, as the problem began with the arrival of our second Lucid. That's why I asked at the delivery of the third to have it put on a different account.

I also don't buy the claim that Lucid can't put the cars on separate accounts because of their being purchased on that account. Our original Air was purchased on that account, but the one we have on it now was bought used from a Volvo dealer in New Hampshire to replace the first car that was wrecked. So I never bought that car from Lucid, but they had no trouble putting it on my original account.

This is part of the reason I sometimes wonder whether anyone is really looking at this seriously . . . or whether they just don't want to bother with making an exception to their routine.

If it's been mentioned, I second hoping for creep mode setting to save to profile

@hmp10 Can you do the following experiment? Log out of all your music apps in all of your cars. Log into Spotify on one car and log into Tidal on your other car. Make sure you don’t log into the same app in more than one car.

Do you still get the same problem?

Oh I didn’t mean literally. I meant that Lucid clearly has a process for reassigning cars to other accounts, so it should definitely be possible.

I was not *at all* suggesting you should literally sell the car to your partner. Sorry for being unclear.

In short: I agree with you.

I don’t know anyone else with three, but we have two and are often on the road simultaneously (including just today, as we were getting them cleaned). Both are under my account.

Both are family accounts. And why would playing a USB stick get tangled up in this? That really throws me.
I am no expert, however it seems strange that it would have anything to do with the Lucid accounts. You have a Tidal family account, which allows for 6 total members. If you have Tidal on your phones, 3 cars, a Sonos and or computer (or two), you will have more than 6 total accounts.

Consider verifying with your Tidal account how many registered users and devices there are. Or, if you have multiple devices (cars included) that total more than 6, logout of some of them (one at a time) to verify the problem still exists?

Again, I'm not expert in this, but I can't imagine this relates to your Lucid registration. They are just a conduit for accessing your Tidal or Spotify or whatever service you are using.

Of course, each family member has to sign in with their own login - otherwise, it will appear as one person playing on multiple devices, which is a no-no.

From Perplexity:

Examples

  • Tidal: 1 device online + up to 5 devices in offline mode at the same time on a single account (so, effectively 6 with 1 streaming and 5 offline).
  • Spotify: can be logged in on many devices, but an individual plan can only play on one device at a time; Family/Duo let multiple devices play but each uses its own account.

Don't know if this is helpful, but all of us on the forum are trying...
