I have noticed a lot of changes made to my recent draft posts that I have had to correct before posting or edit after posting (and some I have missed because of the short edit window). They are not typos similar to what I typed or switches of similar words (such as "it's/its" or "you're/your or "there/their). For instance, in a post I just wrote, the "This" I wrote at the start of a sentence switched suddenly to "When". I get the feeling that an AI program is analyzing my text as I write it and making changes based on predicting where I am going with the text.

If so, can I make it stop?

I have not made any updates on the forum for a few months now. This may be a 3rd party on your computer/device making these changes?

Interesting. I'll collar one of my computer programmer friends to check it out the next time he is over.

Probably on your device, especially if it’s a newer Apple OS.

I am the forum overlord hacking into your device to correct you're grammar. Oh crap, can't fix my own.

Yep, it is a fairly new Apple with the latest OS updates. As I spend considerably more time writing on this forum than any other internet or texting site, maybe I just haven't noticed it happening elsewhere.

Yup; this is Apple Intelligence. Like Lucid Assistant, it is new. You may have noticed some annoying typos in my posts too.

It’s not just Lucid that has improvements to make to its AI.

Apple intelligence == Apple Maps.

It’ll be a while before it doesn’t suck. But it’ll get there eventually. That was somewhat inevitable. Somewhat due to it being released probably a full year earlier than Apple would have liked, thanks to pressures from Wall Street.

I just put up a post about tires, and I was paying particular attention to what was happening. A couple of times I saw words I intended and spelled correctly switch to something else while I was still writing the sentence in which it was happening.

This is a very aggressive AI program, and it doesn't ask you to approve changes before executing them as earlier spellcheck does. Sometimes the changes are grammatically correct and are contextually logical although they change the direction in which you were going with the thought. And sometimes they just turn the sentence into nonsense.

I get the point of spellcheck, although I sometimes find it annoying. But the point of using AI to second guess the substantive content of what you are writing eludes me and is way too Big Brother-ish for my taste.

You sure it’s Apple Intelligence doing this. I haven’t noticed it rewriting / changing things unless you tell it to.

You can turn it off in the settings of your iPhone too.

Yes. It does this to me too, because it's more 'aggressive' about suggestions than the old autocorrect used to be. It'll get adjusted by Apple over time. I have definitely sent texts with entirely different meanings than what I thought I wrote because it changed out from under me.

It sucks, because I really used to rely on autocorrect, as it had gotten really really good. Now I have to double check it.

Settings > General > Keyboard. Turn off whatever is driving you nuts.

Autocorrect has always been wonky for me. But I agree it has gotten much worse in the recent releases.

A simple topic question that went off track. Most posts have been deleted by me. The original question was asked and answered, and I’ve left some other helpful comments. This thread is now closed.

If you have any issues, feel free to direct message me.
