I was surprised by the difficulty I had insuring my 2025 Air Touring. I live in a rural area of Southern California, am 71 years old, have a perfect driving record, have owned a whole succession of expensive high performance cars and never had any problem with insurance. When I leased the Lucid, I was shocked by the quote I received from my insurer and was then stunned to find that most other companies would either not insure the car at all, or quoted even higher prices! I was able to get coverage at a less extortionate premium from Mercury, but they wanted to limit my annual mileage to 3,500 and warned me not to exceed that because they would either dramatically increase the premium or drop me.
I finally found that Connect from American Family Insurance gave me a very reasonable quote and allowed a higher annual mileage (they require you to join COSTCO, but then reduce the premium by the membership fee). With them you initially apply for a quote online which gives you a "provisional" quote that they then manually review for 14 days. After that period, you can talk with a very pleasant and efficient real person in the States and within a couple hours finalize the coverage by phone and E-mail. It was a painless and very smooth process, and I can wholeheartedly recommend them. The only minor glitch is that they covered the Lucid and my Raptor, but would not issue Comprehensive on my 2002 Firehawk saying that it was too old; so the Pontiac will stay with Mercury.
Much as I have nothing but good things to say about Connect, I have nothing but scorn for the supposed insurance from AARP by the Hartford - this was a complete disaster. I got a competitive online quote from them in December 2024, but since then they have been jerking me around (now six months), asking for reams of paperwork to be mailed to them (including a current smog certificate for the Lucid). After finding and mailing everything they demanded the first time (except the smog certificate), I waited more than two months for them to "review" the information, only to have them ask for even more stuff. I sent the second tranche months ago and have still not received a reply. When I call, they say that the quote is still under review. Out of curiosity I checked
https://aetna-medicare.pissedconsumer.com/review.html to see how other insurers handle things, and at least it gave me some reassurance that not every company operates this way. I thought dealing with the IRS was bad, but the Hartford set a new benchmark for incompetence and slowness.
Hope the above helps anyone having the same problem as I was experiencing
