If not an Air, which EV would you buy?

BMW Neue Klasse i3, Model 3 Performance (last resort), or Polestar 5 (should it ever come out in the US)

I have a GMC Sierra EV that I enjoy a lot. If it had car play I would like it even better. Also, a Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a great EV for the money. Both very different from the Lucid Air, but solid Evs.

If you couldn't drive your Air, what other EV would you consider buying and why?

Although I don't own a Lucid (yet), I am EV car shopping. I have a Subaru Solterra now, but I want to go back to a coupe/sedan. I love the Air specs but I rarely have more than one passenger (mostly drive solo) so ideally I'd like something just a bit smaller. I am looking for something on the more luxurious end so I'm not considering Kia, Hyundai, Ford, etc. I never thought I was that hard to please I'm finding something I really dislike with almost all of the EVs I've looked at so far!

Other than the Air, the BMW i4 xDrive (or i4 M60) is probably my front runner (besides the Air) right now. The new BMW i3 Neue Klasse looks enticing but I can't wait that long. I thought the Mercedes CLA 250+ hadn't started deliveries in the U.S. yet but it should be soon. Volvo ES90 is another one that's due later this year, if I'm not mistaken. I don't really like the looks of the Mercedes EQE or EQS. The Audi e-tron A6 (or S6) Sportback looks better but it has some other disqualifying features. Maybe I'll just get a short term lease on something and shop for my "ultimate" EV again in a couple years.

IMHO there’s really nothing quite like the Air. It’s not perfect but out of all the cars I own/ owned it’s certainly in the top 5 for all time greats and is probably #1 for all around do everything. The only cars that gets more use now that the weather is nice is the Blackwing and the e39 M5. Maybe the limited edition Model S would work but I’ll never know because I can’t drive one. Taycan Turbo S is a blast but too tight for me anyway and ride quality can be rough for a daily. When the Sapphire is at $100k I’ll get one for sure.

You're not gonna believe this but Lucid used both the Blackwing and the E39 M5 as part of their benchmarking for the Air and the Sapphire 🤣

Yes I recall this, very cool. I also believe that the steering rack is from the same manufacturer as the Blackwing and I believe the Porsche GT3.

I think I would consider either the BMW Neue Klasse i3 or the Mercedes C-Class EV… but much preferably M or AMG variants if available to close the performance gap with the Air. I’ve enjoyed the spacious size of the Air, but it’s a touch larger than I need.

Probably going to pick up a used certified Volvo C40 to use as my “winter driver” later this fall to tide me over until the Earth midsize leases start getting returned in 2030. The dirt cheap C40’s will be a perfect little winter driver for me for a few years. I’m done with ICE cars!

I'm waiting for either of two things to happen. 2025 Taycan GTS Sport Turismos to depreciate a bit more or a rumored Neueklasse M3 Touring.
Need to scratch that wagon itch.

Looks like the ix3 gets about 3.9 mi/kwh and 400 miles real world highway range (70-75 mph)....

The range of the BMW is pretty good, but I suspect both the Air and Gravity are better. Why? This was not at 70-75 mph.

There was some glimpses of 70 mph on the speedometer, but did you see the traffic? No way it was 70 mph sustained. Also, there were additional clips of the speedometer/cruise at 60 mph.

At a few points in the video, navigation showed:
  • 58 miles, 1 hr 20 min: 43.5 mph.
  • 58 miles, 1 hr 8 min: 51.2 mph.
  • 191 miles, 3 hr 23 min: 56.6 mph
At those speeds, I bet we’d get EPA. One thing to note is that they hit rain, which would drop efficiency.

Fair enough, I suspected as much when the Tesla was also getting 340 miles...

probably get another audi etron gt. i had one and liked it. seems similar to my air minus 100 miles range. not as roomy but much nicer styling. or maybe a used taycan in mamba green. my dog prefered the audi over the air. must have smelled better. i wish someone made a nice electric 2 door coupe. i am eyeing the electric porsche cayman if it ever materializes

I'd hope for something like an estate/station wagon, but I doubt BMW would bring the i3 estate to North America. If by some miracle they did an i3M and brought it over I'd say that's the model for me

Very well puat bout the etron GT. Similar performance but at least 100 less range. Cramped back seat but beautiful styling. I bought mine in ‘22 for about $100k. Same car is now $145.
