I finally turned the HUD off today

Good news for you folks. Looks like Lucid is actually taking steps to fix the HUD.

At this point in time, the least Lucid could do is refund everyone who got the HUD the $3,200 and treat it as a lesson learned for overpromising and underdelivering. They marketed this thing so heavily and think it's fair and reasonable to make people wait 12,18,24 months for something that should be delivered on day one. I'll give automakers some grace period on evolving ADAS features but a HUD? C'mon!

If they were having so many issues with it then they should've just done the same thing as what they did with the Lunar Titanium and pulled it from the model when they were having all the shortage issues with it in the first place. They had no issue giving people a $5000 credit for the LT cancellation so it shouldn't be a big deal to give people $3200 back.

There is no mention of any plan to retrofit existing cars with whatever they develop. Any ideas?

Credit reduces revenue. Giving money takes cash. Huge difference...

There is no reference to different hardware - Basemark appears to be software.

This is borderline criminal. Lucid started selling Gravity with this option a full year ago and yet it is just now, a full year later that Lucid is finally entering a partnership to develop the software to make the AR features achievable. Lucid was selling us something with very flashy adds about the AR features and no info on how long it might be delayed, when at that time they knew that it was not going to be ready for at least a year and probably closer to 2 years.

Well they shouldn't have taken the cash from US in the first place for a product that was nowhere near ready

This won't help me at all. I can't use the HUD because it's in my line-of-site and too distorted. They need to adjust the project so it's back at the bottom of the windshield for anybody taller than 5' 11"... If I scrunch way down, it looks fantastic! But I can't drive like that.

Waste of money for anyone over 6' or with a long torso. It can probably be fixed with a couple of washers tilting the mechanism, but that would likely involve removing the dash to get to that. Very frustrating, but like you I felt it was dangerous to be so high (and distorted).
the height and angle to get the correct brightness level is weird. at 6', I find if I put the seat down far enough, it mostly works viewing straight on (with my newly purchased non-polarized sunglasses). but that's sitting lower than I'd like.

it's like they designed it for someone 5'6" (no offense) and never took the finished product out of the lab and drove it around in the sunlight. Or HUD R&D is in Seattle. ;)

I get it. I'm just new enough to the ownership experience that I still hope/believe they have a fix for this once they get ready to show off HUD with AR.

Same here. My wife and I turned HUD off after few weeks because we find it more distracting than useful. I agree that we paid a good amount of money for an option that a lot of owners do not/cannot use so a refund would be appropriate. I would even take a credit that we can use to buy some of their expensive items in the Lucid store.

What were they supposed to do? Let it languish? I think they get some credit for accepting some outside expertise to deliver what they promised. I'm sure they wish they had a time machine but they don't.

unfortunately the angle of viewing and height appears to be the hardware installation fitment and polarizer. they could fix some rotation and "keying" with software, but that won't fix the viewing angle. unless they have some motorized bit they haven't let on to yet, which I doubt.

Agreed, hope we are wrong

The problem is that it seems they've changed the calibration settings of it sometime during production. Apart from its light detection issue, the positioning of it wasn't a problem for me as it was positioned more at the road level and with the seat in the lowest position it remained relatively in focus, I complained about the light detection and Lucid recalibrated it. Since the calibration its positioned in your line of sight and has become distracting. As a result, it's projecting onto the cars in front of you so when you hit a lighter color car the text blends into the car color and becomes unreadable.

When I complained about how the calibration did more harm than good they replaced the HUD calibrated it and it yielded the same result. Position it into the lowest position and the text is cut off and the moment you tilt your head slightly up it skews the image even more than it already is and when you tilt your head down slightly it makes it more sharp. It's like they've calibrated it for a Smurf because any average height human being it doesn't seem to work for.

I've raised it with Lucid but it seems something is off with whatever was changed in the calibration process. I also suspect it's why owners who took early deliveries may not be experiencing the same issues and newer owners.

SO glad I opted for the better sound system instead of the tech pkg!
Hearing all your stories with this sounds like I may have made the right decision
Indeed, good decision

I thought this would be good news lol. You guys were all just complaining that you thought Lucid neither cared nor was working on a fix.
We are all old farts and after CP/AA, now its the HUD turn to get the old fart complain train
