I finally turned the HUD off today

Am I the only one who likes the HUD? I find that I don't have to look away from the road for anything driving-related thanks to it. Even the blind spot warning is shown there, and the next 2 nav turns
I am with you. The HUD height is fine for me (I am 5'11"), the position and brightness is not an issue. I do have the image set fairly low. The graphics are crisp and clear and there is no tilt to the image. The more that I use it, the more I like it. My car was delivered Dec 26, so earlier Gravity may be different than my experience.

The HUD is useless, I turned it off almost immediately. It looks terrible and blurry, and there’s no way to fix it in software, nor do I believe it’s even theoretically possible to do so - the issue is with the relative position of the projector and windshield, and the curvature of the windshield. These issues won’t be addressable by software IMO.

This is likely the reason they were trying to push people away from getting the HUD early in the Gravity delivery process - they knew it was a dud. But it turned out be too popular due to their massively overhyping its capabilities.

Watermelon holder?
That’s what someone else on this board (I can’t remember who) called that gap behind the second row seats. I thought it was appropriately named.

I've become OK with the HUD contents itself. yeah, it would be nice to be adjustable to lower in the windshield. I wonder if they thought this height was needed for the coming AR overlay?

the frame sheen and occasional bright spot reflections bug me more than anything else about it.

I wonder if this option would just be removed entirely for the 2027 model. Can't imagine its worth trying to make it work at this point. Don't know why they even thought it was a good idea to begin with as the Gravity already has a massive screen already being pretty front and center to your field vision.

Overall I like the HUD and glance at it all the time. The right and left eye are slightly out of alignment which is annoying but I've grown used to not trying to look too closely at it which strains my eye due to the double vision. A quick glance at my speed or distance to next turn is great.

I have it positioned as low as it can go, my seat is all the way down, and I'm 6'4". It's right under the bumper of the car in front of me, maybe 6-10 inches off the front of my own hood. Position is not a problem and it works well in various other seat height/HUD position configurations.

Fix the right eye/left eye alignment and I'd have no issue. Still awaiting that promised lane change VR stuff.....

Interesting to know. I can’t understand how vertical positioning wasn’t caught and fixed in the Gravity prototype. Don’t get me started on the watermelon holder.
I suspect it might be a function of the size of the driver. Since we are all of different heights, we view the windshield from a different angle so what may seem fine to some will be annoying to others.

Seat position probably as well. It's a little better if I sink the driver seat down to the floor and then adjust from there. I prefer to sit higher usually.

They wasted so much time and money on crap like this. Useless HUD, Atmos, Face Recognition, at the expense of stuff we actually wanted like reliable fobs and CarPlay. It’s unbelievable really.

They need it to be competitive with Audi, Mercedes, BMW, etc. as they all offer HUD’s and most with some form of AR. Once again though, instead of just buying one off the shelf, Lucid decided to design their own and it’s bitten them in the ass with not being able to deliver full functionality along with a bunch of reflection issues.

I’ve made my peace with the HUD. After leaving it swtiched off for a few weeks, I turned it back on again. The placement was still “wrong”, the graphics in their indeterminate fuzziness still gave me a headache, and the damn thing still obstructed my view of pedestrians, bicyclists, stationary cars and trashbins put out for pickup.

Now, determined to become accustomed to something for which I paid so much, I have gotten somewhat used to it. It has stayed on, and I just drive around now, carefully, with an HUD that really doesn’t do its office all that well. But I paid for it…

I wonder if they actually did get one off the shelf. The viewing angle problem may be that the glass windshield on the Gravity is sloped differently from what the HUD was designed for.

Well it's official, I'm in the "I turned the HUD off" camp. Lucid recalibrated my HUD and made it unusable. It became out of focus requiring you to tilt your head forward, it was so far up the windshield that it obstructed vehicles in front of you and when you had it set to the lowest angle it would cut the text off at the bottom. It went back for a second time, this time for a HUD replacement and calibration of the new unit. Lo and behold, the new one does exactly the same thing. There's no amount of adjusting the seat to get the thing in focus and rather than take it back for a 3rd recalibration which will require a minimum of 1 to 2 weeks in the shop I've just decided to give up on it. Maybe when they deliver the AR (If ever) I'll revisit it but for now, it's staying off for the foreseeable future.

I have messaged inquiring whether the AR features are finally off the table as they were not shown in the software roadmap on investor's day. Haven't heard back...

That’s a shame. One more thing to add to my list of things when I bring my Gravity in for its first yearly service this December. Granted my list at three items, is not that long.

The HUD has really been the only disappointment with my GGT.

By the way, what’s “AR”?

I can only assume they're not off the table but the fact they weren't mentioned on the roadmap leads me to believe it's not coming anytime soon.

The whole reason mine was calibrated was because I complained about its light detection and constantly fading in and out so the response was to recalibrate it. After both calibrations it didn't fix the light detection and just made it unusable. I'm wishing I kept my mouth shut now. So.....I would advise anyone to think twice before complaining about the HUD that could trigger a recalibration as you run the risk of making it worse.

AR = Augmented Reality

Totally agree. To me, this is currently the biggest disappointment with the Gravity as it stands now. This is a much bigger issue to me than the slight delay on Car Play that has all the Apple Fan Boys in a tizzy over on that other thread.
