I have always kept my electric cars plugged in while in my garage. I am running a Tesla Wall Charger with a Tesla Tap adapter on a 60 Amp Circuit (delivering 48 Amps). I have notice that my AGT even when left plugged in does not seem to automatically top off its charge the way my Tesla Model 3P used to (or my wife's Hyundai Ioniq 5 does). By way of example, when I plugged it in and charged it last, it charged to 409 miles (80%). Then over the past two days the charge level has fallen to 385 (75%). I've been sitting in the car a lot programming things like Sirius FM, garage door openers, settings, etc. with the heat on. Unlike the Tesla, it does not seem that the Lucid actually draws power from the wall charger even though it is plugged in. When I unplug the Lucid and then plug it back in, it immediately starts charging. Any experiences with this?

Thanks in advance!

Uh, it definitely does. Do you have scheduled charging turned on? Mine will top up even if I just wake it from the app, I’ll get a “started charging” message and then almost immediately a “finished charging.”

The only time that’s not true is if it’s outside the hours of my scheduled charging.

Is there any way to program in a "dead zone"?

Such as charge to 80% but don't start (or restart) charging unless it's below a set level (75% or 70%).

Nope. The only way to do that is to unplug.

But… why?

If we start the but…why on things that could be better with a software update we will be here awhile and have a wildly different ideas on where the priority should be. 😂

Thanks for replying. No, I don’t have scheduled charging on. However, I do see the same behavior when I wake the car from the App. But only when I wake the car from the App…my point is that it should charge itself regularly as long as it is plugged in to keep the charge at the level that it set at, but instead it seems to lose a bit of charge and then top itself up if / when I wake the car with the App…

I wonder if once the Air falls asleep after charging, it won't wake up again on its own to top off. This definitely happens if you try to use a EVSE with a charging schedule.

I have a '22 GT, and if I set the charge level at 80% and leave it plugged in, it will certainly start charging again whenever the battery drops below 80%. So much so that I charge to 82 and then reduce the charge limit to 80 so it doesn't keep restarting charging.

Is it even good for the battery to keep mini charging when it really doesnt need it?

Haha I have nothing against it and don’t have any idea about how to prioritize it. Truly no opinion.

But I genuinely don’t know why it would be a desired feature? I’m very curious as to the use case lol

I wonder if the behavior is different between Lucid Mobile charger vs Connected charger. In my case with the mobile charger, I find this constant "topping up" behavior inconvenient because it keeps running during high Time-of-Use electricity rates, even outside of scheduled charge time. It probably won't amount to much, but it's still a legitimate need for those on time-of-use rates to have in-vehicle control of charging time restrictions. Tesla and Rivian let you block off when not to charge at specific locations, like at home, when left plugged in. Otherwise, letting it keep charging during peak rates is like an idle fee even at home--until you unplug.

The amount of energy it takes to top up is so minimal that I would not worry about it to much. Even in the most expensive electricity markets in the country it’s less than $1 a day…

I just retrofit my Tesla wall charger with the Lucid unit. It topped up on the Tesla charger/Tesla Tap configuration as well as the Lucid charger. Same 60a circuit/48a charge as you.

As a side note, the Lucid charger is really a beautiful piece of equipment. I love the attention to detail and the logo that remains lit when not in use.
