Great post. Regarding your air installation: were there options to install without removing the bumper? Any pics of that install available? Did the unit interfere with any of the car's sensors? Was considering having it done but if it involves the bumper being removed and re-calibration of lidar, that's pretty involved.

We've been having a discussion about radar installation in the Lucid Air under the "Safety Recall" thread (my fault, I admit). So I thought we should start a thread specific to this topic.

I picked up our car today after a 7-day installation job. The car was returned in perfect condition near as I can tell -- no squeaks, rattles, panel misalignments -- despite significant portions of the front and rear ends and the under-dash panels having been removed.

What I would love to know if the jammer causes any interference with Gravity tech, you might be the first to find out so please do share!

We have some software issues in the car, but nothing new since the radar install.

One oddity I noticed today, though: I bought non-polarized sunglasses in order to see the HUD, but I cannot see the Uniden display mounted in the mirror unless I take them off or switch to polarized sunglasses. I'm utterly mystified why I can see the display with polarized lenses but not with non-polarized lenses. All I can figure is that putting the display behind the mirror glass has something to do with it, but I don't know why that would be the case.

But I rely mainly on the audio alerts to know I'm being hit by radar or lasers, and the Uniden audio tells me the type of signal, the direction, and the strength of the signal. If I want to see more detail (which I usually don't), I just pull the sunglasses down my nose for a moment.

I guess I've learned that a key question for an installer is whether or not they have a 3D printer in their shop.

It really does create a lot of more choice about where to mount components.

you didn't answer my questions regarding who did the install and was the system real world tested on your car to see if it is functioning properly? as I stated when my installer tested the system if failed to be effective because of conflict with the lucid lidar system. beware that if the system installed on your car was not real world tested it might not be effective at it's job.

Yes. The installer has several radar guns they use to test the installation. It was done by Audio Design of Naples, who were the first installers nation-wide to be certified by Uniden when it expanded beyond direct sales to the retail installation market several years ago.

We have also had a Radenso laser detection system in our Air for several years, and it has always worked when we've been hit by police lasers, although it does false alert very infrequently (maybe once every few months). Sometimes these false alerts come from the rear sensors, so I doubt if Lucid's lidar is the source.

good for you, when my guy tested it he wasn't getting results that he could be satisfied with. he removed the system from the car. he didn't even charge me for the time that he spent installing and testing. good luck with your system, it is nice knowing that you needn't be worried about those pesky laser systems in use.

At the risk of sounding stupid... do you guys mind if I ask how fast one needs to drive in order to consider investing in one of these systems? Asking as a newbie and as someone who is usually in the middle lane unless in a hurry. I'm imagining frequent 90mph+ driving would warrant it, but I'm in a part of the country where the highways are usually packed and speed is often limited by traffic.

that is your choice, if you rarely are in a situation where you can utilize the car's capabilities then maybe you don't need to invest in such a system.
while I don't road trip often anymore my local roads are well patrolled, even ones posted at 25 mph, and over the years the system has "bailed" me out many times.
not only is the cost of a speeding ticket a concern it is how your insurance rates will be impacted by even one ticket that is part of the equation.
a good system can cost many thousands to buy and install properly, the choice is yours if you need to be protected by investing in costly countermeasures.

FWIW: for the past 18 months or so I have been driving my air gt "naked" and I haven't had any speeding infractions. YMMV

Good. My Stinger radar has been great, but it does seem to have issues with interference from the LIDAR unit in the Air, and so lidar guns sneak through. I've been working with Stinger to fix it, but if I can't get it fixed I may have no choice but to go Uniden, if they work on Gravity.

Note, though, that I haven't been hit with lasers by a police officer in the Gravity yet. The installers tested it using various laser guns, but that's probably not quite "real world".

It is the Radenso system in the Air that has been hit several times by police lasers and always saved my bacon. (The Radenso units we have source their laser jammers from ALP, fwiw.)

One of the reasons I decided to try Uniden on the Gravity (besides the strong reviews it gets) is that the Radenso systems in both our Air and our Tesla have the same problem with intermittently shutting down while driving down the highway. Several attempts to fix the issue have not resolved it. It's an annoyance more than a crisis, but it does get old after a while.

lidar guns sneaking through is translated to the system isn't able to work properly and can't be depended on which is why my installer refused to install the system take my money and forget the consequences of the conflicts caused by the lucid's lidar. YMMV

Ever since I switched to using Waze instead of Google for mapping, I've been without a radar/ladar detector and thankfully (knock on wood) have not had any tickets or pull-overs. The alerts on Waze seem to be really good and its rare (but does happen) that I see police monitoring speed that wasn't previously reported by Waze. Random brake-lights from people in front of me have been the clue to slow down on those rare cases where Waze didn't report it.

I'm curious how often the radar detector "saves" you when Waze wouldn't have.

Just a friendly reminder that the unless you have your windshield mounted radar detector inside the tint cutout to the right of the mirror in the Gravity, you may not be detecting very much at all!

Waze saved my butt so many times. It's now always on my screens.
