Gravity HUD Position and Clarity Questions

It's appear tilted relative to your viewing height.
If I lower my seat a few inches, HUD positioning is perfect; no blur, no tilt and no blinding from the Sun.
But alas, I love my seat in the highest position!

Hm, I will give it a try, but I am pretty sure my seat was at lowest position. Car is at Lucid Service now and the loaner they gave me does not have a HUD, which actually makes the dashboard look way cleaner in a way. On my car I already tried moving the projection image up/down by a lot and that didn't seem to fix the tilt.
I do miss HUD from my 2019 Audi E-tron - it was clear and perfect, not so fancy like newer Audi's of course, but very helpful

Dare I point out that you can see the HUD section as a slightly darker reflection on the windshield. You are always going to have "some" level of difference between different lengths of dash to the windshield.

Yes tht darker reflection is the HUD "field" on purpose. This "window" can be moved up, down to have the correct position for the driver.

So, after my recent service appoinment they did fix my HUD's tilt by recalibrating it. HUD now is not even parallel to the ground (so, no tilt) but also is perceived more immersive as if the AR effect is more pronounced sort of, so that my eyes read the image as if it's naturally blending due to better image depth. That's the write up service provided:

Concern: Customer states the HUD still appears misaligned. In addition, I have recently experienced intermittent brightness spikes at night and early morning times where the HUD becomes extremely bright, to the point of being distracting and potentially unsafe.

Cause: Misalignment condition observed combined with a known software concern.

Corrections: Previously, HUD calibration could not be completed due to a tooling issue. Created case 01260708 for review. Field technical specialist performed calibration of the HUD. Noted the image was crisper and better aligned post calibration. Please note that the brightness spikes are a known software concern and will be rectified in a future software update. Currently there is no customer facing enumeration. Please continue to keep the vehicle up to date as software becomes available

Interesting... Aircraft HUD projects the images out ahead of the aircraft so your eyes are not shifting focal length as much. Typical automotive HUD barely projects images forward, so it is not much different from the instrument cluster... However, I wonder if Gravity's AR HUD is projecting further forward, ahead of the car. That would make the visualization far more immersive feeling.

if I recall correctly the Gravity HUD is based on a new patent from Lucid, so I wouldn't be surprised that they'll need different software considerations altogether

I think it's more that they mimic projecting further out with optics, not actually projecting ahead of the car/aircraft. There's nothing further forward to reflect off of. I'd still actually reflecting off the glass.

Yes, that is exactly how all HUDs work. The image passes through a lens and then reflects off the windshield. The lens determines the focal length of the image. Although the reflected image is physically only few feet away, optically it can be any distance away, which means your eyes would not need to refocus to see the image versus the stuff out in front of you. If the Gravity is projecting the image 20 yards ahead of the car, that would dramatically impact how your brain perceives things.

Well, not sure if it's 20 yards ahead of the car, that I see that projection image now, but it sure feels beyond the windshield pane, probably 10 yards ahead of the car give or take. I may adjust the image during this 'new, post-calibration HUD break in' period, so that might change

yeah that doesn't seem to work for me, only thing that will clarify it is moving the dang seat down.

I just received my Gravity a few days ago and absolutely LOVE the heads-up display for navigation—it’s so much better than glancing at the screens for turns.

That said, I’ve noticed a few things:

• I’m 6 ft tall and have the HUD set to its lowest position, but it still feels high. Why would anyone want to raise it even higher and have it directly in their line of sight? That doesn’t seem safe. I wish the display could go even lower.
• The display is very slightly blurry unless I tilt my head to the left, which makes it clearer. Has anyone else experienced this? What's odd is that sometimes the display seems clear for a few minutes. I'm not sure if I just get used to the fuzziness or what.
• At night, the HUD gets REALLY dim. I also see it slightly adjusting brightness randomly as well. Is that normal? I have it set to the highest brightness.

Would love to hear if others have similar experiences or any tips to improve clarity and brightness.

I’ve had exactly the same experience with the location of the HUD. It’s too high and blurry until I lean left. I turned HUD off. It’s one of the really bad features in an otherwise great car. Lucid needs to take a lesson from bmw and/or Audi on this one. And - frankly the HUD didn’t convey much info. BMW and Audi do a better job.

Just for reference, I took a picture of my HUD display from my eye perspective. Other that being a little tilted, it's actually about the right position and visible and clear... as long as I don't have the seat raised too high (where it disappears). Hard to find that balanced position though. Had to play with the seat height (and lower the HUD as far as it goes) to get this balance point. It still displays a tad higher than ideal but close enough.

My phone camera picked it up as blue for some reason, but it's really white. And seems to be bright enough with the right (non-polarized, medium darkness) sunglasses now.

I have my vehicle at the service center and asked them to check the HUD display alignment/tilt, while the performed some other service. This is their response and they told me verbally they need to get a test tool and have engineering present while performing the recalibration:

Given that the techs verified @Alex 's concern, took pictures, and created an FTS case, I'm going to assume that his is actually misaligned.

FWIW, ours is not misaligned, so it's definitely capable of being aligned correctly.

I just picked up my Gravity 2 days ago, and man…that HUD is terrible. I turned it off. It’s super blurry, no amount of seat movement gets it right, and it feels like one of those 3-D images where you have to go crossed eyed to see it clearly. Oddly enough, if I close one eye, the projection is super sharp. There has to be something wrong with the hardware, there is no way anyone at Lucid would think this was OK to ship. It also tilts to the left, but that bothers me less than the fuzzy/blurriness of the projection.

Been on the phone waiting for customer service to pick up to see what can be done.

As you have noticed, there is a left and right eye image which makes the display appear like it’s floating in front of the car. You could try tilting your head a bit and you will notice that the display should come into focus.

I had the same issue with my display and my eyes adjusted. But it was not a long-term solution and I had Lucid try to calibrate the display. They have a new tool now for calibration now. Unfortunately, my display would not calibrate properly, and they ordered a new Display which they are installing as we speak.

Eh, I'm the opposite. I wasn't going to get the tech package but ended up getting a good deal on an inventory Gravity that has it. Mine seems fine and I like having it.

I like it now too, even though it took compromises to get to where I could see it well. But now that I'm there, I'm glad I got it.
