Gravity Delivery Discussion

Spoke to Lucid SA to make sure they are changing the order to 21"/22" wheels. He said you might end up getting your place in line delayed. Seems odd that just changing wheels will reset your place in the queue. Hoping to take delivery around Sept.
changing from what wheels - to the 21/22's. HOPING that they are primarily stocking the 20/21's and the 22/23's.

It really depends on your use case. For you it looks like it makes sense. For me, my use is to drive from San Jose to Lake Tahoe (summer and winter) which is significantly uphill and cold in the winter. After 1-2 years of batter degradation, having that slight buffer makes the most sense. We have a 2 year old and our use case is driving 80 mph without stopping to get there as quickly as possible.

I suspect we'll need approximately 415 in range to get there safely - so it's likely in 3-4 years we'd be on the bubble.

I don't know that route. Would the combination of the Gravity's charging speed and access to Superchargers make any difference to you? (Not trying to be argumentative, just curious how people are receiving the claims by Kyle Conner, Tom Moloughney, and others that this is a real a game changer.)

That is not an easy drive in the winter, and if you're going at peak times, there can be major delays. I have never driven that road in an EV, and it's been 25 years anyways, but I once got stuck on Donner Pass in a blizzard. We didn't have to eat each other but the ride from Tahoe to SF took 11 hours, a lot of which was literally just being at a standstill for several hours. People were getting out of their cars and having snowball fights on the highway. I sure hope there's a lot of charging infrastructure there now, because that road, in winter, with a child, would give me massive range anxiety.

I'm not knocking the use case - far from it. Just saying it's a challenging route.

My case is not that extreme, but one trip I occasionally do is up to Auburn, Alabama. It's a much nicer drive to leave the interstate just over the FL/GA state line and cut cross country -- good roads, gently rolling farmland. There are no L3 CCS chargers along the route. I can do it in the Air Dream without any problem. It could be a problem in the Gravity (without the small wheels) were it not for two Supercharger locations along the route.

I'm not too worried about cannibalism, though, as there are plenty of barbecue shacks along the way. (Some people get their gas at pumps; some don't.)

Got a call today that they've assigned a "pre-VIN" for my GDE, which (apparently) means securing all the parts and putting on the production schedule. Next update will be when they assign the actual VIN. We didn't have this "pre-VIN" notification step back in the early Air days but I'll take anything that sounds like progress.

I’ve got a DE on order. I’ve uploaded everything they’ve asked for, but it’s still at “Order Placed” status. I’m so eager to get moved to the next step! I don’t own an Air, and I didn’t upgrade to DE right away (about a week or two before the HUD controversy), so it’s expected i might be a little later in the queue, but hey Lucid I’m here and ready to go!! :D

Join the club. I'm not an Air owner, my original Gravity order was early February, and I upgraded to DE on 3rd day--and I'm still at "order placed" as well. I'm very ready to trade in my Tesla Model S. I'm consoling myself with the fact that my husband and I at least get to go do a test drive on Saturday up in Newport Beach. After buying a money pit house sight unseen during covid, we should know better than to purchase a high priced item without seeing it first 😂.

All the DE owners need to get in line…some of our GT orders went in on 11/7/2024 before 9am and we are nowhere near…and we lost the HUD along the way…

I mean…yay for DE orders first to work out all the early kinks, especially with the HUD, while providing Lucid with soooo much $$ for keeping the company afloat.

Salute!

Not jealous…

The whole article sounds like AI wrote it, mindless, meaningless jumble of data from random sources.

My favorite was this one: no epa range available at this time, but wait, it’s 450 miles rated. WTF…at least read the article before you submit it regardless of what wrote it.

The whole thing sounds like data aggregation by someone who has never seen the vehicle beyond a photo on the internet, a completely lifeless soulless article.

I guess some people will look at the rating and call it a day, I unfortunately read the whole thing.

I agree, there’s nothing there. Just slop and blather.

It was new to me. I’ll refrain from posting

Please don't. I've posted my share of things on this forum that others found objectionable, and for better reasons than the objections raised to your post. As much as this forum can feel like home most of the time, it's still the internet, after all.

The biggest gap is Auburn to Soda Springs, 44 miles. Looks like there two superchargers planned to shorten it though.
California has very good supercharger coverage.

No. Keep posting.
I just thought those who were commenting on the most recent US News review might want to see the previous comments.
Especially the comments regarding the quality of the review.
There's almost a 1000 posts in this thread, so it would hard to find those previous posts.

Also, the "rinse and repeat" comment I made was about the comments from forum members about the quality of the review, not the review you posted.
I must have glossed over the original thread…

We did that route a bunch from 2013 onwards in a model S with rated range 265 miles using superchargers that were 90kW or 120kW. Mainly we were going from west of San Jose to South Lake Tahoe but sometimes did North Lake Tahoe.

We had young kids who needed a break and some food anyway so we stopped for dinner along the way at the Chilli's supercharger. We were never the sort of family to drive for 5 hours nonstop, or drive at 80mph in a 65mph zone. We also had a charging station at the home in Tahoe.

In general we wanted to have a fair bit of buffer in case we got close to Tahoe and found the road was closed. Also snow on the road can significantly impact range. So if it were me with a Gravity I'd probably just stop somewhere for 5 minutes to charge, there are so many options these days.
