Gravity Cold weather driving range experience (small sample)

I'm a victim of An extreme scenario. Late last week i charged my battery to 80%. I'm a first responder and I'm retired so, All of my driving is very local. Over the course of less than a week, my battery percentage dropped to 11% after JUST UNDER 50 MILES DRIVEN (see picts). Yes, we're in the midst of a real cold/wintery mix here in NJ BUT, 50 MILES on SOC starting at 80% and expending to 11%. WTF!!! I've really questioned the range on my new GGT in my 4 weeks of ownership BUT, this incident now gives me great pause!!! This is not my first rodeo as it relates to ev ownership. I've studied and practiced good charging habits, limits, etc. As I see it, NO SCENARIO exists that would produce such extraordinarily poor performance! Any similar issues from this great pool of lucid owners?
Something is weird. Those add up to 24.4%. Where did the other 75.6% of the juice go??

Each time you warm up the interior you will use a chunk of energy. I never really tracked it but it should be 5 or so kwh. Drive 10 miles use 3.3 kwh to move the car and 5 to warm it, total of 8.3 (1.2 kwhr per mile). I will check how much is needed to warm the air tomorrow.

There is something wrong with your car, and you should have service check it out. You're right, that isn't normal.

Thanks for very constructive feedback. Yeah - too late now to see the 'Parked' source of drain but will scrutinize w/ current SOC cycle. I'm still certain that something has run afoul, as SO MANY other things have in a short 4 weeks of ownership. I need to dig in to parameters of the Lemon Law - if you all saw my very LONG LIST of vehicle ailments, you might agree.

I would really give Lucid a shot at fixing it; their service is generally very very good, and they do care. But up to you.

Winter Performance - Wow! I'm super impressed! We left our Gravity parked outside in a DC area hotel for a week, in freezing temps, amidst piles of ice and snow. We got back last night, temps were 15 degrees, -4 wind chill, piles of ice and snow still around our vehicle. On the shuttle from the airport, I was able to connect using the app, to warm up the car, turn on the seat heaters, and steering wheel heater. I was concerned the door handles would be frozen shut due to the week of freezing temps, but when I got there, they opened (needed a bit of a tug on door to unstick it).
The car still had 76% battery, just like we left a week ago!! No phantom battery loss, even in freezing conditions.

P.S. Also very impressed that I got the most recent software update and applied it to the freezing vehicle, while we were skiing in Utah, several thousand miles away! Love this vehicle. :)

I do precondition because I'm told that it is a must for battery maintenance but, like my climate use, it is by no means excessive!

Battery preconditioning is important for charging. There is a range of (warm) temperatures in which batteries can accept high charge rates. So when DC fast charging, to get higher rates, the car automatically pre heats or cools the battery when it knows you are navigating to a fast charger.

L2 AC charging is less demanding, but the car will use energy to heat a very cold battery to better charge it.

If your battery is very cold, it will also affect your regenerative braking and you probably will have less acceleration available (but you probably won't notice that unless you're doing jackrabbit starts). But the normal act of driving will warm the battery, and the BMS might use some power for heating the battery...but not to the preconditioning range.

As others have pointed out, your use of preconditioning (the battery) used significantly more energy that driving.

The only time you need to manually precondition is when going to a DCFC and you're not navigating to it via the in-car navigation. Normally on a trip, when the car knows it's heading to DCFC station it will start preconditioning 45 minutes before arriving. If, however, you are leaving your hotel for a charging stop 10 minutes away, you might want to start the preconditioning 35 minutes before your departure so it will be ready to slurp electrons as quickly as possible.

Considering getting a Gravity to replace my Air once my lease is up. One issue with the Air we've had is it tends to stay a little too cold for our liking in the cabin when driving in very cold weather. Seems like you guys have covered battery performance, but how does the Gravity fare in terms of comfort?

Just finished a four hour roadtrip. Super comfortable and even temp interior the whole way. Outside temps was about 37, so not too cold. Very consistent once I set the temp to what I liked. My daughter likes it cooler so hers was set differently and we were both happy.

It does take a bit of time to get warm when you start, but I avoid that by preheating it.

Preheating still activates the artic blast for me, I thought 3.4.1 would have fixed that

Huh. I thought arctic blast was killed off in 3.4.1. Mine gets so hot my wife complains when we get in! It wouldn’t get so hot if she didn’t take so long, but, whatever. Just can’t win…

Preheating does seem to take longer in this car, I assume because the interior is just bigger than out previous cars. I find I want the 2nd row blowing too, otherwise I feel cold air circulating in from the back seats thru the center of the car. Feels like cold air is blowing on my right cheek and shoulder if I only have front climate on. .

Do your seats heat when you preheat the car? I have that highlighted in the app but it doesn't feel like it's happening until after I get in the car.

For a long while now, I find the preheat seats don’t indicate properly in the app most of the time. When you preheat and turn the car on in the app, then press the seat and wheel buttons to turn them to indicate off, then again to indicate on. That works every time for me.

There's a Smart Heating setting or something like that which will turn on seat and wheel heating even if I've turned it off in the app. The setting will heat wheel and seat if cabin temp is low.

My seats and wheel are always turned on when pre-heating from the app, or if it thinks during startup it's too far below the set temp. I really just use seats and wheel to get toasty, especially in Chicago when I am already also dressed in a hat, gloves and thick winter jacket. I really can't be in any vehicle above 65 degrees cabin with winter gear on...

Correct the app indication may have a status bug, but if you go to look at the car its going to be running.

Ah, that could be it. I turned them on in the app and they appeared to stay lit for future drives so I wasn't manually turning them back on each time. I guess I'm going to have to do that every time.

I do have the Smart setting turned on in the car too, but the car parks in my garage so it's usually not super cold. Might just take a colder temp before Smart turns them on.

Most times It wont be running in the car. I've experienced several frosty mornings where I forget or try to trust the app that the seats and wheel will be warm, but 8 out of 10 times, they will be cold as ice. Works every time tho when I toggle them. So not just a display in the app issue, but truly not turning on. Even in single digit temps, they still wont necessarily turn on.
