Gravity Bugs / Issues

I experienced a variation of this using the "Crack all your windows to ventilate your cabin" feature in the app. Each window went down a crack as advertised. Then I tried closing the windows using the same app function. 3 of the windows went up. Driver's side rear went down.

Close to my scenario. I had the rear windows lowered to take the dog for a ride and the front passenger window cracked a couple of inches to keep cabin pressure from building. When we hit the highway, I raised the rear windows and then tried to raise the front window. I saw it going down and let go of the switch, pausing the window about halfway. I thought I must have accidentally pushed the switch down instead of pulled it up. So I paid close attention when I pulled the switch up again, but the window continued all the way down. When I pulled the switch up again, the window finally went up.

The stuff that distracts you while driving with all the software glitches is worrisome from a safety standpoint. Features that are meant to operate while the car is in motion should be much more fool-proof.

95% certain it's software. I've had this happen at times and it's either corrected itself on the next drive or a reset has fixed it. Although, it's been extremely solid for me for a while now (touch wood)

I know people dismiss the software woes and say "live with it, this is to be expected" but this issue right here shows the ripple effect that poor software has. How many people are reporting back to Lucid that the steering wheel isn't working that then needs to be serviced only to have the wheel replaced and the problem not be fixed because it was never a hardware problem in the first place but some random software bug. As a result, it's taken up a service spot in an already overwhelmed Service Center network.
Just heard back from my service center. They’re going to replace the steering wheel again, they’re making sure I have the latest version so this issue doesn’t happen again. The wheel is delayed shipping to them along with a replacement passenger front door handle, a new key card tray (didn’t read the key card) and a new windshield.

Gravity stalled today.

Well, not like an ICE engine stalls, but the car died as I was trying to exit a parking lot. I got in the car to leave, pulled out, and drove the car about 100 yards to the exit. I had a friend in the passenger seat and I was frantically trying to fix the Arctic Blast as we were moving, but none of the HVAC buttons were responding. Shortly thereafter both screens went black and the car was unresponsive. While I was patiently waiting for the car to come alive there were two cars behind me blowing their horns, wondering why I decided to stop at the exit and not move. Eventually, after about 20 seconds, the car came back to life and appeared to re-boot on its own. I had to explain to my friend the unpredictable nature of the software and the numerous bugs. He was not impressed. Thank goodness this didn’t happen on a busy street with traffic. I’m now wondering if I need to reboot the car every time I get in it. At a minimum, I think I will be rebooting the car at the beginning of every day.

If you’ve got the time of when it happened you should email it to customer care for them to pass onto the engineering team to see if they can check the logs etc.

I’ve had the car go completely dark on me twice in the early days but I was still able to drive while it rebooted.

I gotta say, it's ok to be that guy and be really concerned about this - as you said what if it happened on the highway or at high speeds? I think this is more than serious enough to call them for some live support... and to be taken to service immediately.

...And, is surely driving up warranty costs!

In my case I could not move the car. Furthermore, I couldn’t see if it was in drive or park, since the screen was dead.

You should definitely speak to Lucid about it if you haven’t already.

Wow, thats crazy....luckily you weren't on a highway. I just don't get it....why is this vehicle software sooo bad!

It is very unfortunate that software engineers are negating the amazing electrical and mechanical engineering efforts.

Come on Lucid software team, get your act together!

This is disconcerting.
While I really hope that this is extremely rare and won't recur, I would also consider filing a report to the NTHSA.
This should not be construed as a ding against Lucid.
Why a report?
This is from NHTSA webpage:

Report a Safety Problem

Have you experienced a vehicle, tire, car seat, or equipment safety problem that could be a safety defect? If so, you can file a complaint that we will carefully review — like we do with every safety problem submitted to NHTSA.

What is a safety-related defect? Generally, a safety defect is a problem that poses a risk to motor vehicle safety, and may exist in a group of vehicles or equipment of the same design and/or manufacturer. An example of a safety-related defect is a steering component that breaks, causing a driver to lose control. However, paint quality or cosmetic blemishes are not considered safety-related defects, because they do not pose a risk to motor vehicle safety.
Why is it important to file a complaint? Complaints like yours help us investigate possible defects, which could lead to a safety recall. By reporting your problem, you're helping to keep vehicles — and ultimately our roads — safe.
To submit your complaint online, select your problem below and fill out the complaint form.If you don't have an email address, or you're unable to fill out the online form, contact our Vehicle Safety Hotline. We have English- and Spanish-speaking staff members, who are trained and knowledgeable, to answer questions and assist you in filing your complaint.

I would too. For a couple of reports they may not do much, if anything. But if more widespread or if someone is hurt your info would be invaluable. I've done a few with Tesla and never heard back.

I'm surprised companies seem to be deathly afraid to talk to their best and most recent customers. I'd dedicate a person who could be called/email'd that summarizes the issues and how widespread they are for internal resolution .

Their version of that is scanning the owners forum

Not defending Lucid, but I doubt this shutdown could happen on a freeway, unless you get on a freeway within seconds of getting in the car.
Despite wide randomness of issues there is a tendency of them happening during the wakeup when multiple systems are initializing and communicating their state to each other and some central vehicle controller. During this wakeup period the system can quickly or at times less quickly get in sync and ready to operate normally, but in some rare instances the system gets in a locked up state and reboots itself, probably via watchdog timer. A good indicator in this case was the ongoing arctic blast, which means HVAC system wasn't in sync with the car and was likely holding up the completion of the wakeup process.
When I get in my Gravity I always take time to make sure all HVAC and display systems are responsive before I touch the brake pedal. I take time to switch thru 3-4 common pilot screens - seats, HVAC, music, navigation, make sure none of them are frozen.
I'm not an airplane pilot, but I've seen in movies how airplanes are started before take off, I do the same in Gravity, makes me feel like I'm about to fly an Airbus :p

Mmmmm

“intense solar storms, like solar flares, could cause pilots to lose control of the Airbus A320 series of planes”

Out of curiosity was your fob on you? I’ve seen instances of the fob being in someone’s pocket and pressure accidentally locking the car. This should never happen when the car is in drive but had you rolled to a stop and brake hold was engaged? Just trying to get a clearer picture of the conditions.

Has anyone else had an issue with the rear liftgate? Today I closed the rear hatch using the auto-close button and walked around the car to the driver's seat to get moving. The main "car" screen on the pilot panel showed the liftgate was open, which it did not appear to be. I got out and looked out back, and it appeared the liftgate was ever so slightly ajar. Pushing the open button on the liftgate caused it to beep, but nothing would happen. I tried to pull it open manually, to no avail. The app didn't work to open it either, but I could hear it trying to do something. Finally I just pushed hard on the liftgate and it auto-cinched closed. Then I could open and close as normal. Nothing was in the way of the liftgate. I know the frunks have had issues, so I'm curious if I'm alone in having had a rear trunk latch glitch.
Yesterday, I had to manually close the rear liftgate on my Gravity. Hitting either the key fob or the touch screen resulted in sounds like the car was trying to close it but it didn't budge.

When parked in my home's detached two car garage, I see about 5% battery loss a day. When parked in my vacation home's garage, there is no battery loss. The only difference is I haven't yet introduced my Gravity to my vacation home's WiFi. I'm going to delete my home WiFi network info from the car and see if that resolves my battery drain issue at home.
Turned WiFi off and no more battery drain. Question: what is the WiFi connection used for?

Fob was in my pocket, but I don’t believe the car was locked. When I lost the screens I was stopped, preparing to turn. I think I hit the park button hoping the car would reset, but the screens stayed black. I moved the stalk several times and hit park several times trying to get the car to wake up. The car may have still been drive-able, but at that point I couldn’t see what gear I was in (D, R, P) and had no speedometer or anything else, so it didn’t seem safe to try and pull out into traffic. It would be good to have a LED gear indicator independent of the LCD screen.

I don’t understand this Arctic Blast. If the car memory can’t default to my last setting, then the climate and audio should just default to”off.” How hard is that to program?

I guess this is a small issue, but annoying: Does anyone else have sucky windshield wipers? Mine leave terrible streaks. Maybe this is something the SC can adjust but it seems weird on a brand new car. My driver's side wiper is great going "left" but when returning "right" it leaves big streaks right in the middle of my view. It's not like there isn't rain falling to start obscuring my vision immediately, but it's frustrating, esp on a brand new 140K car.

I'm getting Ceramic Coat in a few weeks, hopefully that helps rain to sheet off in general a little bit better.
